You people don't make any sense. At all. I've gotten to page 18 in this thread and feel like I might save the entire train wreck as a definitive sample of modern American psychosis.
See we have a thing in this country called libel and slander. What this means is that you can't run up and down the street or put something in a newspaper that is knowingly
false and does damage and causes injury to your neighbor. IE you can't say that your neighbor likes little kids because his dog crapped on your yard one day and he didn't pick it up.
Even politicians are protected. However they have another standard in which they have to get over which is very difficult. That is malice.
They have to prove that the person said it on purpose and knowing that it was 100% false.
the funny pages are protected first amendment actions.
there are only 2 outcomes to this case.
1. Newspapers and everyone can print whatever the hell they want about anyone regardless of the actual facts knowing that it is 100% false and as long as they claim it is an opinion get away with it.
2. They will rule that newspapers are still required to have some journalistic integrity when publishing articles.
