'This is a war': Meet the Texas ranchers forming their own border militia

QUOTE: For Mike Vickers, not much has changed here since 1823, the year a group of frontier lawmen formed the Texas Rangers to protect settlers and their land. “We’re still dealing with the bad guys from Mexico,” Vickers, 69, told The Post, referring to smugglers who traffic in drugs and desperate migrants. “This is a war.”
Dressed in a cowboy hat, tan cargo pants and weathered boots, Vickers, a veterinarian, runs the Las Palmas Animal Hospital, but he’s also chairman of the Texas Border Volunteers, a 300-strong militia helping the thinly-spread US Customs and Border Patrol agents cover more than a million acres of private land throughout the state’s border counties

ME: Good for them! Trump should deputize them and then it would be official.

Like I said before.....militia thugs aren’t capable of “defending” anything, which is why they spend all their time posturing and waving guns at women and children.

I been reading about this type of thing for at least 5 years maybe longer. Its my understanding that they dont engage anyone but they watch the border and call the border patrol when they see someone crossing.

These Americans have grit. Of course the Left will vilify them and blame Trump, but these folks are on the front line. Their lives are on the front line. They're dealing with smugglers, drug cartels and murderers who would carve them up as soon as spit on them.

Like Trump, they want to play soldier. (but not anywhere where their prey aren't women and children).

Thanks for posting this.

This has become the new epicenter of the culture war.

“Grit” my ass. They are strutting around waving their rifles at a bunch of unarmed women and kids a long, long way away from any actual danger.

Any actual cartels would chew these losers up and spit them out in three seconds flat....and they know it.

Second thread on this topic today in this forum.

Too lazy to check first?

And I'm sure it's why you use a picture of a tank for your avatar. Posturing.

It's about time. We could use some patriotic texas rangers there, also.

FBI Arrests New Mexico Border Militia Leader Larry Mitchell Hopkins

The FBI arrested a 69-year-old New Mexico man who allegedly illegally detained immigrants crossing the border under the guise of working for the United States Border Patrol.

Larry Mitchell Hopkins, who runs The United Constitutional Patriots (UCP), an armed border militia group that spreads far-right conspiracies and rounds up asylum seekers on the border, was arrested by FBI in New Mexico Saturday on charges of possessing firearms and ammunition as a convicted felon.

Recent video footage released by UCP shows two members holding what appear to be semi-automatic rifles near immigrants, many of them children.

You are right again. Great post.

Irony.

Oh, but are the "actual cartels" different from the fake cartels?

NY Post. Derp derp.

I see the leader of the other rabble got himself arrested for "detaining" people.

My guess is most here don't know Texas formed their own border police force. Not the guys mentioned here, all official and costing a bunch of money, sadly it really has not performed as well as hoped.

What do you obect to, about private citizens voluntarily assisting border patrol. Do you also object to neighorhood watch groups?

Here are a few of the key quotes from the article:

"Many ranchers left the area after traffickers burned down their homes or spray-painted death threats on their property. One rancher had two homes burned down, Vickers said."

"“It’s not an influx we have; it’s an invasion,” he told The Post, adding that both migrants and smugglers regularly cross the river near his property as they make their way north."

"...a neighbor watched federal Border Patrol Agents round up dozens of migrants. “We saw them fill 12 busloads in a three-hour period,” he said."

"The Volunteers received a warning from one of the smugglers, who regularly monitor their radio communications. “He said in Spanish: ‘I’m going to hunt you down and chop you into a thousand pieces with my machete,’” said Vickers with a hearty laugh. “We’re staying and fighting. We’re never giving up.”"

I don't understand how anyone can assert that what's going on at the southern border isn't a crisis. This is an issue that transcends politics and the sooner people realize that the better.

I have friends who ranch just outside McAllen TX who were staunch Democrats and Obama supporters at least initially. But after dealing with trespassers who steal and vandalize their property and the city itself absolutely overwhelmed by unprecedented numbers of migrants pouring over the border, they are having a huge change of heart. They are now condemning those Democrats and RINOs who are standing in the way of border security and they 100% support Trump's wall and a change in the immigration policy to keep us from having to allow those ineligible for refugee status to be here.

Reading the linked article in the OP, discovery of dead bodies on farms and ranches near the border is not uncommon. And fear especially for the safety of women and children, especially the girls, is very real and very justifiable. It is very easy for those not having to deal with all that to be sanctimoniously righteous about concern for the less fortunate and all that. Those dealing with it up close and personal are pretty much of one mind these days though. They want the problem fixed. And they are mostly convinced that President Trump has the right approach to fixing it whatever problems they might otherwise have with him.

I was not aware that the only ones crossing the border were women and children, I guess all those pictures from the caravans are fake.

The State Police and FBI are starting to arrest these Militia Yahoos....Good to see them get the White Trash off the streets

The lefts stance on immigration is senseless. Hence why I will vote sanders.
