First it was flags. Remember that? People wanted to change certain flags of Southern states. Now it's statues and Stone Mountain. People want statues that were connected to the Confederacy torn down. Okay, so what's next?

Monticello? Mt. Vernon? Cemeteries of Confederate dead? Mt. Rushmore? Al Sharpton is calling for the removal of the Jefferson Memorial in Washington DC. is that a good idea?

All these things have something in common. All are connected to slavery, bigotry and racism. So, if we are to tear down these things, should we also disband the Democratic Party which gave us slavery, Jim Crow and, the Klan?

Kassam: They're Coming for Mount Rushmore, But They SHOULD Be Tearing Down the DemoKKKrat Party

your hysteric paranoia was explained to you yesterday. The Sharpton thing was pointed out to yesterday as being a lie. You keep posting lies even when you know they are lies. How trump like is that?

I was just thinking about this the other day. Let's go after Thomas Jefferson and abolish the Declaration of Independence.

Literally nobody has suggested taking down Rushmore but ****ing Breitbart says so, and OP truly believes it to be true.

Fake news.

Misinformation, and people who see no depravity in lying as long as it advances their agenda, are probably some of the biggest issues in the modern american political landscape.

Did Jefferson take up arms against the United States to try and keep slavery? Your idiotic comments are just idiotic.

Has any of this been considered at all yet, or are we just doing the Chicken Little thing?

Good ol' fear mongering, lol.

The Democratic Party didn't give us slavery. To assert that it did is to admit to lying.

Knowing history is a good thing. I recommend it to everyone.

Actually yesterday in NYC there was a leftist group protesting the statue of Theodore Roosevelt at the NYC Museum of History. They claim Roosevelt was a racist and want the statue torn down.

There was another call this morning in Chicago to remove a statue of George Washington for the same reason.

George and Theodore are both part of Mt. Rushmore. So where does it end?

Care to source it?
Thanks.

You know I had always had a deep respect for Lee and some other confederate leaders and saw nothing wrong with honoring them with name places and even larger then life statues but now that the racists had move to protected those symbols and in so doing made them stand only for hate and bigotry and the idea of white supremacy I am for taking a sledge hammer to all of them.

Strangely knowing what a gentleman Lee happen to had been and how he was one of those that did his best to bring the nation back together after the war I feel that given everything he would likely had agree with me concerning the need for sledgehammers.

England was moving toward not allowing slavery in their empire and he did take up arms against England and off hand there is no way to know how great the slavery issue was a factor in him doing so.

History is never simple.

The Slavery Abolition Act 1833 (citation 3 & 4 Will. ...
In May 1772, Lord Mansfield's judgement in the Somersett's Case emancipated a slave in England, which helped launch the movement to abolish slavery. ...
By 1783, an anti-slavery movement to abolish the slave trade throughout the Empire had begun among the British public.

The Slavery Abolition Act 1833 (citation 3 & 4 Will. IV c. 73) was an 1833 Act of the Parliament of the United Kingdom abolishing slavery throughout the British Empire (with the exceptions "of the Territories in the Possession of the East India Company", Ceylon, now Sri Lanka, and Saint Helena; the exceptions were eliminated in 1843). The Act was repealed in 1998 as part of a wider rationalisation of English statute law, but later anti-slavery legislation remains in force.

Ironic.

Many of us want to protect these symbols of history because those fascist clowns Antifa have made their destruction a symbol of their power to move us towards Totalitarianism.

That's even more idiotic than what you claim I said. Jefferson was here before we were even a country. He was instrumental in us becoming a country. He was president himself. Of course he wasn't going to take up arms against the US during his timeframe. But, he was a slave owner and who knows what he would have been like if he were around in the 1860's? He might have been the biggest "traitor" the country has ever seen and might have been president of the confederacy. It was Sharpton who is the one who said he wanted the Jefferson Memorial removed from DC.

I am glad Robin Williams is not here to see this.

He played Roosevelt in three movies in a museum.

Any of the things I posted can be researched.

As I was about to include, I am beginning to understand the desire of those people who seek to remove these various statues. Slavery, bigotry, racism, are sins that we all need to purge from our country. And the removal of these statues, monuments, and memorials are a beginning in atoning for those sins. Why stop there though? Let’s remove any and all connections with our ugly past.

In essence, eradicate it all. All political parties, because the GOP is accused of racism, the Democratic Party because of their obvious connections to the aforementioned slavery, Jim Crow, etc. completely and totally destroy all mention of those fore fathers who said anything remotely bigoted, this includes any party they belonged to.

Would this be sufficient enough to belay our country’s disunity?

I was just thinking about this the other day. Let's go after Thomas Jefferson and abolish the Declaration of Independence.

Why not? The nation can call for a convention of the states and completely rewrite the constitution. Some people think the constitution is a racist document anyway. If we are going to destroy all references to our dark past, then we ought to go for broke and rid it all.

Go back to your cave, or get out of our country.

Thanks for those helpful comments. But I am serious. I'm beginning to see where you people might be right.

Don't forget all those libraries full of books to be burned.

Actually, if you were to read what I posted, I provided a link to assist in illustrating my point. In other words, Lee statues glorify a racist, and so does Mt. Rushmore, and other public maintained monuments/memorials.

It wasn't "fake news" it was a commentary, an observation.
