There could have been three more mass shootings if these men weren't stopped, authorities say

Why?

The red flag laws proposed are designed to punish those that THINK about committing a crime, but have not yet committed that crime.

Will this extend to young men who look at young women and have thoughts about sexual congress? Will 95% of all hormonally guided young men be jailed for rape?

Jailing folks for not thinking right is not a good thing to do. Societally, we need to control behavior, not thought.

In every single case you will have to do more than just think about the crime

Suicide is often an impulsive decision. Guns make that impulse lethal

So, without guns, there would be no death?

Sounds like a premise for a Twilight Zone episode.

As I understand it, the Federal Version of Red Flag laws and the regulations that will extend the reach of those laws have not yet been passed and signed into law.

That is my understanding too

It's always amazing to me that people like you who believe themselves to be intellectually superior are unable to greasp a relatively short, clearly stated thought.

Amazing!

Do you work to be close minded or is a natural ability?

It is 100% illegal to threaten or publicly plan mass murder. If you disagree feel free to make your argument now, or petition your local representative to have it changed. Insulting me won't change 230 years of legal precedent.

That is not the topic area of the question my post posed.

Maybe if you move your lips as you read...

Pre-crime is real crime.

Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words must be dealt with via harsh prison terms.

:hm

When you're obviously planning a mass killing then we shouldn't wait until they do it first before arresting them. And, many people have been in and out of jail numerous times and then commit horrible crimes, rapes and killings. When are we going to learn that we need to keep these people locked up for life?

The topic of the OP was a guy posting about committing mass murder on Facebook, and it's highly illegal, not sure who the **** else you'd be talking about. That all of you red hats are popping up to defend one of your own is not the least bit surprising.

Guns are tools. Lacking a gun, the job can be accomplished with other tools. Suicide is a tragedy. Guns are tools.

You missed the point. Suicide thoughts lead to suicide in more cases when the tool to commit a quick suicide is readily available.

If instead you have to cut your veins to bleed out or jump off a bridge or hang yourself, suicidal people are much less likely to go through than if they have a gun and just push a trigger.

My posts purposely left the drawing of conclusions to the reader.

Regards.

Obviously.

I didn't ask about the conclusion of your posts.

I asked about your conclusion.

This is really scary, but at least these guys weren't the smartest...I mean seriously, one posted on FB, one posted on Instagram, and the other guy told his gf he was going to shoot up 100 people. WTF??? Are they all in it for the "shock" value?

  • In Connecticut, 22-year-old man was arrested after authorities said he had expressed interest in committing a mass shooting on Facebook
  • A man in Daytona Beach, Florida, was arrested in a Winn-Dixie parking lot on Friday after telling his gf that a good 100 kills would be nice'
  • In Ohio, 20-year-old man was arrested for allegedly threatening to carry out a shooting at a Youngstown Jewish community center.

No they are not in it for shock value. They are mentally ill and crying out for help. It is up to the people around them, basically you and me, to recognize the signs and get them the help they need. That is the difference between today and years ago. Years ago people were responsible not only for themselves but their friends and family. Today everyone expects the government to make laws and solve all our problems. Hopefully one day the people will learn that the government can't foresee and stop these problems no matter how many laws we make. It takes We the People to accept responsibility and take the appropriate action needed to stop these people. We are the only ones who can see it coming and truly know the people we live and associate with every day. Not a government worker in an office in another state who has never met the person.

I agree with that.

I recently watched a discussion about this TV and one of the participants cited suicide attempts described by survivors who jumped from the Golden Gate Bridge.

In ALL CASES, immediately after they jumped, they regretted it. It's possible that the successful attempts were the result of a higher degree of commitment. No testimony from the successful suicides...

Using a gun with a bullet to the head has an instantaneous finality. No chance to reconsider.

In my very limited personal experience, one symptom of depression is confusion and an inability to determine the correct course forward. My personal depressions have been more like being unhappy than being clinically depressed.

For better or worse, certainty creates confidence, courage, hope and a strength born of purpose. You can have all of these things and still be wrong. However, you're less likely to be gripped by despair.

In this way, not having access to a gun helps to create the chance for a mulligan.

As Ricky Martin said, "She'll help you ease your pain, like a bullet to the brain".
