The Stupidity of AR-15 Bans

Banning AR-15s will do almost absolutely nothing aside from hurting law abiding owners.

Here, let me fix that for you.

Needs to be federal

The only thing that arguably needs to be federal is a law making it illegal to sell directly to residents of other states.

At the very least, citizens should be able to legally own any weaponry available to local police departments, up to and including armored vehicles.

This is a common sense, bright line position that I support. My only reservation is I don't see area weapons-like tear gas dispensers designed to deal with rioting crowds or vehicles that have fire style hoses for dispersion of rioters need be covered.

Federal law

A citizens of state A cannot buy a handgun from either a dealer or a private citizen in another state

A citizen of state A can buy a long arm in an adjacent state from a licensed dealer

No citizen of any state can sell or buy a firearm to or from a private citizen from another state.

Knowingly. And there's no requirement for the seller to even check. See 18 U.S.Code §  922(a)(5) ("It shall be unlawful ... for any person ... to transfer, sell, trade, give, transport, or deliver any firearm to any person ... who the transferor knows or has reasonable cause to believe does not reside in ... the State in which the transferor resides)(emphasis added).

of course. and few criminals get firearms that way. when a criminal doesn't steal a gun, he almost always gets it from someone know knows he's a mope

Nah we can do.much better than that

Why? Are you afraid that, after it's proven not to do anything, you won't have anyone else to blame?

I just think it will work better nationwide. Shouldn't we do what works?

We should focus gun control on handguns.

Welcome aboard

Stop and frisk was a very effective policy in New York City that was anti-handgun in practice. But we all know how that went.

In Chicago the politicians are in bed with the gangs, so I don't think we can foresee a political solution there.

NYC currently has very low crime.

Thanks to gun control

They can, and people do it all the time. They just have to have it transferred to an FFL dealer in their home state where they go to pick it up.

Do it in your own state. No need to impose your bad ideas on the whole country.

It wouldn't fly in Nevada. Maybe he could live in California which is right next door.

Nationwide gun control, at least the kind he's advocating, would never fly in states such as Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Arizona, New Hampshire, Wyoming, Montana, and many others.

Opinion noted and dismissed

that is because the FFL dealer is legally the seller in that case.

What makes you think it would work better nationwide? I don't think it would. I think "better" is in the eye of the beholder, and it's better for more beholders to have more options.

That's the beauty of doing it state-by-state. Don't like the law in Nevada, then go live in CA, and visa versa.
