Yes or no?
I want to say no. I think what they'll the do they remove any compromises like no abortion funding or something else and will **** themselves on getting it passed or someone will deliberately put something in there that no one wants resulting in it not getting passed. There is also the hope that the so-called blue dog democrats will refuse to vote for the bill.
I'm leaning on no... they won't pass it with a 60 vote. They may pass it via reconcilliation but that I think is a defeat not a victory for the Democrats.
"The bill" is a broad term, since we do not yet know what "the bill" will look like.
Will they pass a bill with the public option in it? Probably not; they'd never get the 60 votes necessary.
Will they pass a bill which doesn't do much except further regulate insurance companies? That's quite possible.

Why would that be defeat. I would see that as a victory and a victory for the American people.
Maybe a defeat for insurance companies. Is that what you are referring to?
I don't want the bill to pass because I want poor people to die of diseases that are otherwise treatable. At least that's what people keep telling me my motivation is.

It's a political defeat. It shows that the majority party cannot influence their own members - not to even speak of influencing the opposition.

There's one thing I don't understand about the 60 votes thing. Isn't it dependent upon which side has the greater will? I mean, a filibuster can start, go a long time, and ultimately fail, as it did with at least one of the civil rights acts.
If they pass a bill without the public option it would be a joke.....and the Democrats will deserve to lose in the next elections....because there would be no difference between them and the party on no (minus one).
They already deserve to lose in the next election.
They're Democrats.
Not if they start acting like it.
