The Problem of Sex

So you dont know.

A Brown Man.

BOO.

I'm pretty sure I do.
I'm in the film industry.
Semi retired for the last two years or so (eyes are going bad, hearing going out, knees and ankles) but I witnessed a lot, so I know what I know.

I was also in a moderately successful band in my youth in the 70's, touring the Midwest with national acts, playing big arenas as well as dive bars, so I saw and did a lot.

I don't need idiots at Cosmo Magazine to tell me what harassment or sexual assault is, and I know an awful lot of feminist women. My wife is a feminist, I am a feminist-positive male.

Yeah, that is why so many women, who also have a drive to procreate, frequently harrass and even rape men

Does this mean that you are one of those people who do not know what sexual assault and sexual harrasment are?

Sounds like one of those guys that don't understand why ya can't grab a woman by the p****.

You sir are out of date, force stopped having anything to do with the definition of sexual assault 30 years ago according to the deciders.

Also dont knock playing with power in sex until you have tried it, as I proclaim it to be excellent.

I say though that I practice exemplary consent.

Most of the Feminists want me jailed.

LOLZ. Maybe just afflicted wit L****d**K.

Do you imagine that hearing you is worth solving riddles for?

I hope it was good.

Not Tonight.

If someone admits to a crime but is not prosecuted, you believe they're innocent? That's odd. Is that only for sex offenders or everyone?

The world is awash with people boasting about crimes they did not commit. I've never heard of this Lewis bloke but that could be as true of him as anyone else.

Consent is getting blurry in some ways.

There's intoxication. Now we say if one party is intoxicated so they can't give INFORMED consent, it is a sex crime even if they consented drunkenly.

But how intoxicated do you have to be? One drink? Four drinks? Ten? Tolerance varies.

Unconscious or unable to speak clearly, yeah that's obvious.... but where's the line exactly?

And how much information is involved in INFORMED consent? We say a 15yo can't give it, yet we have 20yo's just as dumb. Is it informed if you don't know the dude's name? If you're sober and don't know his name, or if you had two drinks and don't know his name?

And for many people going out on Saturday night, getting hammered and finding someone to take home is SOP.... they get drunk to give themselves PERMISSION to "do something stupid".

And who is the rapist if BOTH are too drunk for informed consent?

I mean, can we just evolve to the point where everyone is gay and we procreate through science? Much better world that way.

My opinion: free love lost its luster in the 80's when we learned of AIDS.

Sounds like you're the one who is frustrated and unable to read social cues.

And you think you can read social clues so well that you're in no danger of a misunderstanding? Good luck.

You seem to think that this is absurd. But it does happen.

ANd yet, far less frequently. Obviously, women are far superior when it comes to behaving like responsible adults while men are delicate flowers who should be immune from the law because they cant control themselves

If someone decides to have sex with someone they hardly know, or gives themselves #permission to so something ILLEGAL, not stupid, why should they not be held responsible for the decisions and their actions?

Do you ever wonder how millions of men manage to get through life without once being accused of rape?

Good sex is an art form, not a contest to see how many "kills" you rack up on your scoreboard.
It's a gourmet affair, not a competitive eating contest.

I'm in total agreement. But there is also no denying the genetic imperative to spread one's genes on the part of a male from any species. And for a female to seek and keep seeking the best possible genes for her offspring.

I never saw the benefit of having a semiconscious or unconscious sex partner. Takes all the fun out of the fun. And having sex is much more fun than it looks.

When I was young, my grandfather told me things were no different for my generation than for his. Everyone was screwing around, but few spoke about it in the open. Across the table, my grandmother looked at me and giggled. They were both in their late 80's. I had just turned 21. I couldn't have felt more embarrassed, or so I thought. Later events, having nothing to do with sex proved that sentiment mistaken, all too often.

My grandfather, on an another occasion, told me a "mother's job was to instill guilt without sex." Right now it seems we have an entire generation that doesn't seem to know how remove the guilt from sex. It is not feminism. This too, shall pass. The Victorians screwed around like each day was the last, and they were into some really kinky stuff. So did the Puritans.

I wasn't talking about men getting drunk to give themselves permission to rape.

I was talking about people-in-general, and perhaps women-in-particular, getting drunk to give themselves an excuse for having sex with a stranger. It's actually a pretty common practice among certain groups.

That was my question: a man and a woman, both rather drunk, have 'consensual' sex... but by some standards both are too drunk to give informed consent. Who "raped" who?

As far as I know, that wouldn't be rape. Probably be something you'd regret, though.

The only thing that the so called "sexual revolution" did was remove a bit of the hypocrisy.
Puritans may have screwed around, but they did it the way typical hypocritical Jews or Muslims might have done it in ancient times (and now):
Make a lot of noise about how sinful it is, distract everyone's attention and then tell their target that God has instilled his blessings in your gentleman sausage and that she should prepare to receive it.

Funny thing, Scandanavian governments might operate with some fairly liberal policies, but the Scandanavians themselves tend to be fairly conservative, except when it comes to sex.

It's never going to be perfect, what IS perfect?
The idea, if I'm not mistaken, is to move it a bit further away from chauvinism and maybe give it some more heart and soul, more humanity and fairness, and to instill a bit of respect.
Yes, it is likely that we're moving way too far in the direction of a moral panic right at the moment, so best to step back and let the smoke and dust settle.
It's growing pains, always messy and a bit chaotic.
Girls just wanna have fun, too. They just don't want to worry about getting killed or maimed in the process...or slut shamed or victim blamed.

My opinion: free love lost its luster in the 80's when we learned of AIDS.

Informed consent is why this guy had all the fun he could dream of and never got AIDS, or knocked anyone up.

I actually know what you're referring to.
Yes, that does happen, there ARE women who feel the need to do it that way.
That's maybe part of the problem and with any luck, we can lessen that a little bit.
I tend to think that a part of that is due to the slut shaming culture.

Men and women should be able to feel free to slut around if we want without the shaming business.

Another part of the problem is referenced in the morbid joke:
"Some men are afraid a woman will laugh at him, some women are afraid men will kill them."

Liquid courage works both ways, but that doesn't mean it works the SAME way, both ways.

If you say so. :2razz:

At the bottom of the sex problem is the drive to procreate, the natural biological urge that has driven generation after generation of human beings to sustain the species. This is far greater than any ideology can contain. So, what do we do about it? How do we manage it? Currently there is no standard. There is no north star to tell us how we can safely navigate. The traditions that previously provided us with guidelines have been stripped away.

Geez, that's dumb.

Relationships can be tricky, even for adults. Looks like that guy and probably the OP should simply avoid them.
