Dispelling another liberal myth about police treatment of blacks; no, police don't automatically shoot a black man holding a gun, while giving a white man the opportunity to put the gun away without being shot.

This incident is from Daytona Beach, FL, and took place on May 25 of this year. Upon arriving on scene, a white police officer encounters a black male with a rifle. The police officer's first command to the black male is to make sure he doesn't raise it into a shooting position. He then gives the black male a half dozen commands to drop the rifle, which he refuses to do, and finally raises the rifle before being shot. The black male shoots at the white officer, and a gun fight breaks out, with the officer winning, and the bad guy losing.

Officers had been called to the scene, because the black guy carjacked a woman at gunpoint. The suspect survived after surgery. Why do you think we aren't shown videos like this very often by the media?

This is a narrative that's gotten under my skin for a long time now and it got so much worse after Brown, because they decided to coin that damn lie "hands up, don't shoot". Which a vast majority of media outlets decided to propagate, without any verification on if it's true, or not.

Re: The Myth of White Police Shooting Black Men for No Reason

Well the shooting part isn't always true, and it's not always racial, but we do have a problem with the police treatment of citizens.

Oh wait, this is a TAAC thread....blacks bad!

The media shows race-baiting, cherry-picked anecdotal evidence of cops shooting blacks. The real story is that blacks tend to be in higher crime urban areas with more highly trained, less trigger-happy police.

White suspects tend to be shot more by less experienced police who are used to less crime. So per capita and adjusted for crime rate, blacks are being shot by police less than whites.

Dispelling another liberal myth about police treatment of blacks<snip>

So one example, and the myth is dispelled? Who knew it would be so easy?

I'm sure you have. Good to know you think anecdotes aren't worth anything; I'll keep that in mind.

Please do. The op is a moronic post.

Re: The Myth of White Police Shooting Black Men for No Reason

Two Minneapolis cops (white) were fired yesterday for conduct that led to the death of a black prisoner in broad daylight in front of citizens who were begging them to stop.

The FBI is investigating.

That's what you said when you saw the Ahmaud Arbery video too, right? 'Its only one case'.

Have you seen your own thread titles. What possible similarities exist between you and Einstein, you both wear size 5 shoes? I don't see any.

Thanks for starting your own OP on my thread. You forgot to add pictures and links.

I assume the video clip in the op is a snuff movie which would meet with the approval of a racist.

Re: The Myth of White Police Shooting Black Men for No Reason

Unfortunately, there are some bad cops. However, the majority are just out there doing the best job they can. The MSM like to race-bait to up their ratings. They don't care if the sum-total of their coverage does more hard to our society than good. Remember, there are over 300 MILLION people in the US. One or two events happening in a years time are NOT statistically significant. Now, if you could show me thirty times a year that the police were unjustly shooting back men, I would have to listen. But a couple of times a year? Heck they are also shooting a few white men unjustly each year...

You're saying that one incident dispells a "liberal myth" about police killing young black men?

It's a myth that police unfairly target black men with use of lethal force.

Because this is not an execution or murder or police brutality. The police did not commit a crime here or used unwarranted lethal force to people who were either unarmed or not a threat.

The issue is that you ignore the issue and think you are dispelling a myth, even though it is not a myth.

Walking around armed might get you killed, walking around unarmed or not a threat should not get you killed.

Re: The Myth of White Police Shooting Black Men for No Reason

Because this is not an execution or murder or police brutality. The police did not commit a crime here or used unwarranted lethal force to people who were either unarmed or not a threat.

Then you're saying the media should only talk about police shootings when there's some angle to be exploited, but not for the 99% of shootings that were carried out properly.

The issue is that you ignore the issue and think you are dispelling a myth, even though it is not a myth.

No, that is not the issue. The issue is that you are using any scientific evidence to prove that the issue is even a problem, because none exists. While blacks commit 50% of all homicides in America year after year, more whites are shot by police year after year than blacks.

Walking around armed might get you killed, walking around unarmed or not a threat should not get you killed.

90% of black homicide victims are killed by black citizens, who aren't police officers. The 10% who aren't killed by black citizens are mostly killed by Hispanic or white citizens, who aren't police officers. Why do you ignore the 99% reality, to worry about 1% or less?

Re: The Myth of White Police Shooting Black Men for No Reason

Except most times this happens to a white person, that person is not shot to death. Just look at the idiots with their automatic weapons at the demonstrations to kill vulnerable people through COVID19, no police officer pointed their fire arm at these people. They were just allowed to do whatever they wanted, while obscuring their identity. If 30 black people did that people would get shot for sure. For some reason these people are protected by their skin color. Because walking with a BB gun you were buying in a supermarket or playing with toy guns can get you killed as a black person/black child.

No, that is not the issue. The issue is that you are using any scientific evidence to prove that the issue is even a problem, because none exists. While blacks commit 50% of all homicides in America year after year, more whites are shot by police year after year than blacks.

Except it is the issue, and you are totally missing it.

90% of black homicide victims are killed by black citizens, who aren't police officers. The 10% who aren't killed by black citizens are mostly killed by Hispanic or white citizens, who aren't police officers. Why do you ignore the 99% reality, to worry about 1% or less?

And your point would be? Writing nonsense? Almost 83% of white people are killed by white people. Your "fact" is meaningless. If you live in a black neighborhood, the most likely killer will be a black person, then same with a white person.

And the issue is that you clearly and obviously do not understand the issue. The issue is not black on black crime, the issue is that innocent people/people who had no reason to be killed, are being killed by police officers in unnecessary shooting issues. Or like this by just choking the man through sitting with a knee on his neck. It is the wanton disregard for black people's rights. And not just in shootings, white idiotic women are using the police as a weapon against black people. Like that idiotic dog walking Karen this week.

Re: The Myth of White Police Shooting Black Men for No Reason

It's a myth that police unfairly target black men with use of lethal force.

What New Research Says About Race and Police Shootings

n the U.S., African Americans are 2.5 times more likely to be killed by police than white people. For black women, the rate is 1.4 times more likely.

That’s according to a new study conducted by Frank Edwards, of Rutgers University’s School of Criminal Justice, Hedwig Lee, of Washington University in St. Louis’s Department of Sociology, and Michael Esposito, of the University of Michigan’s Institute for Social Research. The researchers used verified data on police killings from 2013 to 2018 compiled by the website Fatal Encounters, created by Nevada-based journalist D. Brian Burghart. Under their models, they found that roughly 1-in-1,000 black boys and men will be killed by police in their lifetime. For white boys and men, the rate is 39 out of 100,000.

In fact, people of color in general were found more likely to be killed by police than their white counterparts.

The study was published on Monday in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, or PNAS, a journal that recently drew controversy for publishing another study on police killing disparities. That study, led by Michigan State University psychology professor Joseph Cesario, published on July 22, found that violent crime rates and the racial demographics of a given location are better indicators for determining a police killing victim’s race.

As Cesario explained in a press release:

Many people ask whether black or white citizens are more likely to be shot and why. If you live in a county that has a lot of white people committing crimes, white people are more likely to be shot. If you live in a county that has a lot of black people committing crimes, black people are more likely to be shot.

The two studies are just the latest salvos in a long-running debate over whether police violence towards African Americans is better explained because of racial prejudice or because black people are really violent enough to justify extra police force. The Cesario study, with its focus on crime rates, seems to fall in the latter camp. Both rely on media-generated police shootings data—Cesario’s uses databases produced by The Washington Post and The Guardian.

Tell me why police go after marijuana in the ghettos, but not the dorms.

Re: The Myth of White Police Shooting Black Men for No Reason

Tell me why police go after marijuana in the ghettos, but not the dorms.

From your source-

If you live in a county that has a lot of white people committing crimes, white people are more likely to be shot. If you live in a county that has a lot of black people committing crimes, black people are more likely to be shot.

Mike Brown lived in a black city.
Freddie Gray lived in a black city.
George Floyd lived a city where blacks are 20% of the population, which is 7% higher than the national black population percentage.

Secondly, what percentage of fatal police shootings that were ruled unjustified, involve a black victim? That would be the most relevant fact to locate, because the vast majority of officer involved homicides are justified. If you were able to determine that blacks are more likely to be the victims of unjustified fatal police shootings, then you would have a point that is hard to argue with.
