the lunch thread

Wife and i don’t do lunch. We’ll share a muffin with coffees or some guac and chips. Eating 2 meals a day has helped us to lose weight and curb our appetites. The only time we’ll do lunch is if we’re meeting with friends who still do the 3 meal trick.

I sometimes skip breakfast or lunch on the weekends if I'm able to sleep a bit longer than usual. It's easier to calorie budget for two meals and a snack.

Bacon and cheese sandwich with light mayo
Cheetos mac and cheese.

Grilled cheese with American cheese that isn't wrapped individually. My wife says that's the good cheese. I didn't intend to buy good cheese, but I guess that I did. It was decent. I used the butter the pan instead of the bread technique, and it worked better again.
Cheddar sausages on the side.

I had late lunch at the mall.

I wanted to get some pork chops, but they didnt have any, so I settled for a full English breakfast instead: eggs, bacon, sausage, beans, mushrooms, grilled tomatoes, toast.

I'm getting good at this. I want to start a soup and sandwich franchise. I will call it This Is Baloney!

lunch deserves its rightful place alongside dinner, because occasionally, it's the best meal of the day.

so what are you having for lunch?

i'll start :

today was tortilla crusted fish, rice with cheese, and canned potatoes. this is the first time i've ever had canned potatoes, which is odd for someone in his 30s. they were actually pretty good.

Shit!

I thought you were serving....

My first meal of the day is lunch. I am a controlled diabetic so I have to wait for my blood sugar to drop.

When it does I dig into my own invention - the "perfectly balanced meal", rolled oats, with nuts, cashews, raisins, pine nuts, sunflower seeds, pecan bits, pumpkin seeds, with a heavy dash of cinnamon, butter and a touch of sugar cooked in whole milk. It's the full food spectrum.

That sounds good. I was pre-diabetic decades ago when I was heavy. I fixed it by losing weight and keeping it off. However, my DNA test tells me that I'm probably looking at type 2 eventually. I'll probably have a blood draw this year, and I'm nervous about it.

Don't be.

And get blood tested every six months at least.

You WILL sooner or later come up full diabetic (we don't use the term pre-diabetic, diabetic is diabetic) as everyone will if they live long enough.

What's crucial. Let me repeat, what's CRUCIAL is early detection and good, solid education!

I was placed in the care of a team of specialists, including the most important link - a dietitian (actually a team of about a dozen) who saved my life! I was waaaaaay far away from being full diabetic. But it scared the shit out of me. I had seen how they whittled down my grandmother, her toes, legs,, thighs etc.

14 years later, I walk into that clinic and they roll out the carpet, bowing to something truly extraordinary in their world - a middle aged male who followed instructions to the letter.

I am 75. Last week picking up my pre pack of meds, the pharmacist told me I looked 60!

All I've done is what they told me. I eat a balanced diet with built-in cheats (chocolate, ice cream - never booze) and get out for a staunch walk every day. I have survived two heart attacks, a mild stroke and PTSD.

Go now. Do what they say.

Will there be all kinds of ordering rules?

Like if someone screws up you'll shout "NO GRADE 1 CARCINOGENIC PROCESSED LUNCH MEAT FOR YOU!!!!"?

Will do. This year is going to be about not putting health stuff off for work like I did in 2023. I have a consultation for a routine procedure coming up, and I'm going to schedule a blood draw, too. I want to see my kids grow up and actively participate in that.

Actually, salt is fine. But watch your blood pressure.
The enemy is fat and sugar.

My loves.
Blood pressure is good. Fat and sugar intake could use some improvement. BMI is in the healthy range. Walking is my favorite exercise. However, thanks for putting the checkup in the front of my mind. Don't want to do it, but gotta do it.
