There is no impeachment inquiry. There are no subpoenas.

You are not to be faulted if you think a formal inquest is under way and that legal process has been issued. The misimpression is completely understandable if you have been taking in media coverage — in particular, reporting on a haughty Sept. 27 letter from House Democrats, presuming to direct Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, on pain of citation for obstruction, to cooperate in their demands to depose State Department officials and review various records.

The letter is signed by not one but three committee chairmen. Remember your elementary math, though: Zero is still zero even when multiplied by three.

So, they are so afraid of opening the Real Legal Can of Worms, that they're using Letters, rather than actual Subpoenas! The House of Reps certainly has the power to use Subpoenas, but they're not... because...

This is all a Dem run Committee Campaign effort, and not a REAL legal proceeding. Because they do NOT want the actual standards of real subpoenas being given to the requests (Letter Demands) for information.

Because it would most likely expose wrong doing by a number of Democrats... such as Nadler, Schiff, Pelosi, AOC, and most of all Biden.

So, it is NOT a real, legal, serious Impeachment Inquiry at all... it is just dirty, hit-piece campaign ads, done in the Senate Committees... I wonder if the campaigns are PAYING for these campaign efforts?

McCarthy is correct about what they are doing.

But standing committees do have subpoena power, so why not use it? Well, because subpoenas get litigated in court when the people or agencies on the receiving end object. Democrats want to have an impeachment show — um, inquiry — on television; they do not want to defend its bona fides in court.

They certainly do not want to defend their letter. The Democrats’ media scribes note the chairmen’s admonition that any failure by Pompeo to comply “shall constitute evidence of obstruction of the House’s impeachment inquiry.” What a crock.

In criminal proceedings, prosecutors demand information all the time and witnesses often resist — just as congressional Democrats encouraged the Justice Department and FBI to resist when Republican-controlled committees were trying to investigate such matters as Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act abuse. Presumptively, resisting an information request is not evidence of obstruction. It is evidence that the recipient of the demand believes he or she has a legal privilege that excuses compliance. The recipient can be wrong about that without being guilty of obstruction.

He is also correct about "why" they are doing this.

Democrats are mulishly determined to ram through an article of impeachment or two, regardless of whether the State Department and other agencies cooperate in the farce. Their base wants the scarlet-letter “I” attached to Trump. The party hopes to rally the troops for the 2020 campaign against Trump (although smarter Democrats know it could boomerang on them).

If Democrats truly thought they had a case, they wouldn’t be in such a rush — they’d want everyone to have time to study it. But they don’t have a case, so instead they’re giving us a show.

Yes, a sad joke put upon the american people. They are just playing upon false scandal one after another in hopes to sway voters their way, because they cannot beat him. It is just another way of trying to cheat in an election year. Fact that Pelosi said this before any of it was known, then "pencil neck" lying about having contact with the wb should show everybody how sneaky and corrupt they are, but the gullible are many.

Given the fact that Biden, Pelosi, and Schiff all have direct connections to the energy company corruption in the Ukraine...

Why don't all three of them recuse themselves from any role in the Impeachment Inquiry.

And an Impeachment Inquiry is supposed to be headed by the House Judiciary Committee, and NOT the House Intel Committee, and its head, Adam Schiff!!!

So, from the onset, and even before, given that evidence has come out that the so called Whistle Blower went to Schiff first, and not the IGIC, before filling out the forms for a Whistle Blower...

They don't need a vote to start an Inquiry. Pelosi was well within in her purview. They will have a vote on the Inquiry when Pelosi says they will. My guess, before the various committees working on pieces of this forward their material on to Judiciary.

As for not submitting subpoenas at this point. They have no intention of getting bound up in additional Court Cases by this Obstructive CRIMINAL administration. They already have a bunch of court cases out there. They simply take too long too resolve which is of course the ONLY strategy the WH has."Lets not really defend ourselves BECAUSE WE CAN"T. Lets just bind the whole thing up in Court process."

Any additional Obstruction on the part of the WH and Administration at this point simply gets rolled into another Article of Impeachment.

What a BS piece. Anybody writing an opinion piece for The Hill should know what is actually going on. So the author either knows and does not care or is dumb as a doorknob!

McCarthy is one of the worst since he writes articles in National Review.

They can't run from the truth. The truth is not on their side.

Trump had a bunch of goons in Ukraine forcing Zelensky to smear Biden. That's the truth. They can't run away from it.

For God sake, the House just released more subpoenas on the WH this weekend. So what the heck is the author talking about. Was he trying to get a useless piece in before more subpoenas were released? What a joke. Did that pile of trash appear on Op-ed or Ed page?
