You may remember Judge Matthew Kacsmaryk as the Trump-appointed judge who tried to outlaw medication abortion, but that (unfortunately) is not all there is to him....On Wednesday, Kacsmaryk issued a ruling denying Spectrum — a West Texas A&M University (WT) LGBTQ+ group — injunctive relief against their ridiculous bigot of a president who wants to ban drag shows from campus.

Here’s what happened: Back in March, Spectrum attempted to put on a charity drag show on campus to benefit The Trevor Project. It was for students and members of the wider community, but stipulated that children would only be let in with a parent or guardian. WT president Walter Wendler heard about this, freaked out and said that drag shows were not allowed on campus.

...Kacsmaryk’s opinion largely centered upon his own personal belief that drag shows were “sexualized” and his upset over the fact that children would have been allowed to attend accompanied by their parents.

Free speech for me, but not for thee.

Provided he can demonstrate that he's behaved similarly towards other groups that would be consistent.
Indeed, though, I imagine it will be tough to come up with many examples. Christian groups aren't prone to putting on live reenactments of Song of Solomon, or the incest between Lot and his daughters.

Which is unfortunate, considering all the pedophiles who seem to come out of these places.

At my State U there were multiple groups: political, athletic, recreational. All of them had social mixers, parties, guest speakers, movie nights. Is Walter Wendell shutting all of them down? Of course not - because undoubtedly he does not find them to be sexualized, and @Napoleon's nonsense about "education, not entertainment" is from someone who either never went to university or is just talking nonsense.

adult entertainment. The qualifier is important :)

I gather you have never been to one. They are loaded with entertainment. Moves, shows, concerts, you name it. Many of it put on by the students themselves.

Yep, we enjoyed a free concert with Aerosmith opening for Rory Gallagher in 1973 at Prince George’s Community College.

Most people who attend college are 18 or above, which is the age to be able to watch porn so...

Which does not make the purpose of a college the providing of porn.

Some of them make a big deal out of their football games.

More censorship and anti-LGBTQ bullshit from the Right. This is what they do. This is who they are.

I don't recall anyone saying tpoint.

You'd have to read the conversation: the point was made that the purpose of college was not to provide adult entertainment. It was then pointed out that most students are adults, at which point I reiterated that, just because adults can access adult entertainment, that doesn't make it the purpose of a college :)

Who said it did?

No they are too busy grifting their flock for that.

Drag shows are not just adult entertainment. In fact their children story hours are very popular.

Drag shows are not pornographic. Nobody is having sex. They aren't even burlesque.
