Ted Cruz calls report of NFL playing black national anthem 'asinine'

So NOW Democrats claim the the USA is a religious Christian country and want religious songs sung at public events.

So, you should be happy right? Lift Every Voice and Sing is a very Christian song. Maybe you're not a Christian which would explain your objection to a Christian song.

Maybe Ted Cruz is not a Christian either. Let's look at some of these lyrics...

God of our weary years
God of our silent tears
Thou who has brought us thus far on the way
Thou who has by Thy might
Led us into the light
Keep us forever in the path, we pray
Lest our feet stray from the places, our God, where we met Thee
Lest, our hearts drunk with the wine of the world, we forget Thee
Shadowed beneath Thy hand
May we forever stand
True to our God
True to our native land

Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, called the report of the NFL planning to play the black national anthem before games during Week 1 of the 2020 season “asinine.”

Cruz wondered in a tweet whether there were national anthems for other races.

“How many national anthems do we have??

“Is there an Hispanic national anthem?

“An Asian-American national anthem?

“This is asinine. We are ONE America. E Pluribus Unum,” he wrote. The NFL will play “Lift Ev’ry Voice And Sing,” which is also known as the black national anthem, before every Week 1 NFL game in the 2020 season, according to ESPN.

According to the ESPN report, the song will be played before “The Star-Spangled Banner.”

The NFL has not commented on the reported decision.

The league and the NFL Players Association are also contemplating listing the names of victims on uniforms through decals on helmets or patches on jerseys, ESPN reported. The NFL also may produce educational programs about victims. They also have other plans that haven’t been identified.

Is Ted Cruz still searching for his spine, or has he completely given up?

No, I'm not. Obviously you are. What denomination and how often do you attend church services?

I don't care about this one way or the other.

But no, thanks to the current president who has done everything he can to divide us, and has got away with it because of cowards like Cruz who knees in front of Trump over and over... We are not: 'One America'...

We are ONE America.

Is a lie...

"Lyin' Ted Cruz" was crushed to bits by Donald Trump when the Canadian-born U.S. senator wanted to be president. Nobody should pay attention to anything he says.

Ted Cruz was born to an American family

Facts are funny things

I'm not crazy about a 'black national anthem'. But black people wouldn't have to push so hard for injustices to be recognized if so many people didn't fight so hard to make sure they are ignored.

I consider myself a protestant. All churches today seem to call themselves "non-denominational." But the churches I've joined leaned Pentecostal or Presbyterian. If forced to choose I would call myself a Presbyterian. My wife and I go to church every Sunday. We haven't been to church for months of course.

I assumed you were one of the faux-Christian social conservatives. That's the vast majority of Trump supporters.

For 8 years the Republicans in Congress were silent, and much of the Republican base cheered while people like Trump, and in the Con media said Obama was a Kenyan traitor, and his wife was an 'ape in heels'...

It was bound to come to a head sooner or later.

Of course Cruz doesn't like it. Donny probably told him not to.

Some argued that we don't sing the anthem before movies and plays why do we need to sing it before a sporting event? I think they should just stop singing the anthem. It always felt strange and fascist to me.

You got it wrong about me. I will say you are the FIRST Democrat to start lecturing about Christianity who isn't a devoted pro-active anti-Christian atheist. So I'll give you a like for that.

NFL can stick their football and the Black national anthem where the sun don't shine, why do Black people have a separate anthem than we do, are they not Americans too. Q2024

Well, it is called "Lift EVERY voice and Sing." (Emphasis mine)

Yeah, the NFL has a real race quandary. On the one hand, it appeals to machismo right-wing men like Trump, with its militaristic (and by extension police) underpinnings, but so many of its players, and fans, are Black. I don't envy them trying to negotiate their way through these two conflicting sides.

I suspect there's a connection between the way they ask for fans to have great loyalty and care for teams, who moves a ball and runs better, that it's asking them all to collectively show how they care and have loyalty for their country as well. It's been hard to oppose, because you get accused of being disloyal to the country. Give the people what they want seems to be the approach.

The vast majority of African Americans are protestant Christians.

Sadly, the most vocal protestant Christians are the worst. I'm not sure they could accurately be described as Christians given that they've abandoned basic Christian principles like love your enemies. These Christian social conservatives are to Christianity what radical Islamists are to Islam. It's a hateful angry version of their religion.

Thats a nice song, I still want to know where the country of Black is, and why do we need any anthems played at games anyway. I really dont see the point

Its a song to commemorate their "native land"

There is no injustice specific to blacks. Most victims of police shootings are white.

I didn't know what the "Black National Anthem" was....so I googled. It's not really a "Black" national anthem at all...

It was the NAACP who dubbed it the "Negro national hymn". But it contains no mention of country or nation and instead only "native lands".

Just for reference, here are the lyrics. Terrible, radical stuff:

Lift ev'ry voice and sing
'Til earth and heaven ring
Ring with the harmonies of Liberty
Let our rejoicing rise
High as the list'ning skies
Let it resound loud as the rolling sea
Sing a song full of the faith that the dark past has taught us
Sing a song full of the hope that the present has brought us
Facing the rising sun of our new day begun
Let us march on 'til victory is won
Stony the road we trod
Bitter the chastening rod
Felt in the days when hope unborn had died
Yet with a steady beat
Have not our weary feet
Come to the place for which our fathers sighed?
We have come over a way that with tears has been watered
We have come, treading our path through the blood of the slaughtered
Out from the gloomy past
'Til now we stand at last
Where the white gleam of our bright star is cast
God of our weary years
God of our silent tears
Thou who has brought us thus far on the way
Thou who has by Thy might
Led us into the light
Keep us forever in the path, we pray
Lest our feet stray from the places, our God, where we met Thee
Lest, our hearts drunk with the wine of the world, we forget Thee
Shadowed beneath Thy hand
May we forever stand
True to our God
True to our native land

Does one sing or rap the lyrics. They should have Snoop Dog and Kid Rock rap together as a show of racial unity.

I don't think that is the injustices he is referring to. And why didn't the democrats and their 8 years with Obama correct these injustices?

And why didn't the democrats and their 8 years with Obama correct these injustices?

HUH? They didn't control the GOP base.. Or the 24/7 of hate spewed by Fox, and Limbaugh, and the rest. Every time there was police brutality the GOP base and the Con media defended the cops.

Add in Trump's birther lies, then he's elected president? Dems didn't elect him..

It took it's toll.

This was building for years. A cop kneeling on someone's neck for 9 minutes while people watched, AND filmed what he was doing? And he didn't care that there were witnesses? And evidence on film???? He was so callous and felt he was so invincible and so much in the right he just kept kneeling until he killed the guy..

This push-back has been building for years.
