Tattoos - What's your "god" think about them?

Not to me, they're not...

Well, that's because your church leaders spoon feed you what to believe. There is no way the ordinary person can figure out which old rules still apply and which don't and why merely by reading every word. That's what makes it convoluted. You start with all these old laws then supposedly some of them are still valid and some not and you have to jump back band forth between the OT and the NT and old covenants and new ones and back and forth in no logical order. Very convoluted.

Do your own research on that...it's all through the Bible, both sections...even the adoption of saints into Christendom is of pagan origin...

No bible quotes to back it? You are slipping.

Not true, it can be accomplished over time...I did not start studying the Bible yesterday...I have been studying it for 46 years...Paul compared it to milk versus solid food, as did Peter...one has to start out with the basics/milk, before they can grasp the meatier things/solid food...

"I fed you milk, not solid food, for you were not yet strong enough. In fact, neither are you strong enough now," 1 Corinthians 3:2

As newborn infants, form a longing for the unadulterated milk of the word, so that by means of it you may grow to salvation," 1 Peter 2:2

If it takes that long, it supports my assertion that it is convoluted. Which means it does not convey a simple, easy to follow, moral code of how we are to act. So you have supported my claim. Thank you. If it takes that long to figure it out, you may die before you do so how can you possibly know how and if you figured it out correctly and lived your life according to god's wishes and laws?

Learning is a process that does not end and along the way, you are also training your conscience to comply with what you learn...

But if it takes too long your conscience can never be fully trained and you can't be sure what to feel guilty about.

Then just given me a couple off the top of your head.

2 Chronicles 28:3; 33:6; Jeremiah 7:31, 32; 32:35 both speak of the valley of Hinnom being used for the idolatrous worship of the pagan god Molech, to which human sacrifices were offered by fire...King Josiah had the valley polluted to prevent its use again for such diisgusting religious purposes again..2 Kings 23:10...

Whenever I hear or see a debate about God and tattoos, I always
remember what Hunter S. Thompson had to say about that issue.

Where does your "god" stand regarding tattoos?

What happens to those people who have them?

Punishment of some sort? Hell? No key to secret VIP room?

If your god has an issue with tattoos, why do you think he/she would care?

Most especially why would your "god" care if it's your soul that moves on to the "after-life" and not your physical body?

As a side question, if your "god" has a serious issue with tattoos, what about piercings, brands, and other body modifications?
What about breast enlargements/augmentations that are strictly for personal aesthetics? Tummy tucks? Nose jobs? Face lifts?

Ugh...I think God has bigger things to worry about.

I hate your scare quotes, by the way. It feels like you're flipping me off. I thought we were buds.

They're not "scare quotes".

Every single person who believes has a different definition of what god is.
All the rest have a different interpretation of what the word god means.

The quotes are there to signify I want to know what your god thinks. Not the generic god, but your personal god.

Simple as that.

Hmm...ok, I'll accept it at face value, I guess. But, for future discussion, you may want to consider how those scare quotes are perceived...if you don't want your buddies to think you're flipping them off, that is. :)

I think this gives a pretty good summary, in answer to your question:

How do you think "scare" quotes are received?

As a mockery of the concept of God, and, by extension, those who believe in him.

Is that "true", or is that merely subjective and overly sensitive?

I've already talked to the OP about this, and have said I will take it at face value. But given the rhetoric in this sub forum, well...I'd say that's a generous concession. Overly sensitive? I dunno, no more overly sensitive than anyone else, who gets tired of people feeling entitled to **** on their beliefs or lifestyle, I guess. Then again, we hear all kinds of people being told they are being oversensitive regarding their treatment...though it usually comes from the conservative crowd.

I think any of us who spend a significant amount of time here understand what scare quotes are *generally* used for, hence the call out. Dragonfly clarified, we moved on, all is good.

Did this exchange bother you?

Yeah, I know about the wiki page. That's not what I was looking for.
I was looking for what each individual thinks.

It appears that the only person here at DP who thinks god cares about tattoos is Elvira.
At the very least, she's the only one who's willing to admit it.

Most others appear to think god doesn't care one way or the other.

The ones who care are the Orthodox, and many conservative Jews (and some reform). I personally won't get a tattoo, but that is my personal choice. If someone choose to get one, that's their choice. I see some perfectly good reasons to have tattoos. There was one person in specific that rather than get reconstructive surgery for their double mastectomy, got a full chest tattoo instead. I can't fault her for that choice.
