Just finished watching it. And my verdict is ... its okay. The plot is a mix of Empire Strikes Back and bits of other surprises thrown in.

I liked the way it showed Luke as a more human character with flaws and all, though the sudden dominance of the First Order seems pretty unbelievable. It's definitely better than The Force Awakens, but I still think Rogue One is the best of all the new SW movies. 7/10

My top SW movie list:

1. A New Hope
2. Rogue One
3. Revenge of the Sith
4. The Last Jedi

The first Star Wars I watched a few times.
The second installment It was okay, afterwards I stopped.

I haven’t seen The Last Jedi yet, but I’m looking forward to it. I absolutely loved Rogue One! It will be difficult to top that one with the new Star Wars movies.

Star Wars has exhausted my patience.

I am done till further notice.

Meh, take it for what it is, they’re big money makers. They won’t quit making them until people quit buying tickets to see them.

If SW has exhausted your patience then you must be into stuff like the Power Rangers.

My take...

Just...disappointing is the only way to say it. The plot dragged and felt like it was just completely filler. The new characters felt hollow and needless. The double twist should've been a high point but was done too early and anticlimatic, comedic at one point followed by predictable in the worst way. Rey and Kylo both feel so Mary Sue like, having not earned through the story telling anywhere near the positions they are. Comparing their arc and growth to Luke's, Anakins, or even Obi-Wan makes this striking.

A few very nice visuals (one with light speed, one in the final battle ground) and a stellar performance by Hamill ate the films only true saving graces. 2, maybe 2 1/2 out of 5. I put only phantom menace beneath it. Maybe I feel better on second viewing with my wife Saturday

I was reading one "If you were to tell someone to make a Star Wars movie that changed nothing about the Star Wars Universe(paraphrase)" and they kinda added later "and made sure that women did most of the important stuff" this is what you would get. It looks good, and it means nothing....it is good looking drivel, basically. I liked the first hour of the first Disney product, the rest of the first one and the second one have so disappointed me that I had decided that I most likely will not even bother to watch this one on Netflix. I need to hear good things to change my mind. I am not hearing good things.

I did sort of like Luke's arc. Despite his formidable powers he's at heart just a simple farm boy who was forced to do heroic things, and he never had the full training to be a Jedi master.

Youre right, Rey is still a Mary Sue. I dont know what to think of Kylo, but he does remind me of Kreia in The Sith Lords game. The subplot with Finn and the codebreaker was pointless other than to give them an excuse to end up in the Sith dreadnought.

Note to all future Sith lords: Do not choose the Skywalkers as your apprentice, they always stab you from behind.

- Why have the star destroyers gone super slow? In the previous movies they could match speed with the Millennium Falcon, now they can barely keep up with the rebel ships.

- The lightspeed kamikaze maneuver: this is the real game breaker here. If a single cruiser can devastate a whole fleet, why not just build lots of LS engines on asteroids and throw them at opposing fleets? Why did the rebs even try to do a bomb run at the dreadnought when they could have just hit them with lightspeed strikes? You dont even need a Death Star anymore.

- So Leia has got force powers now? Even without training?

- How is Rey going to continue her training now that Luke is dead? Will he train her as a force ghost?

Well it seems everybody is dying, with Carrie Fisher gone it's a given Leia dies in the next movie too. So who is left? Lando and Chewie?

I'm going to watch it again in a few days.

This one has left a mark. No more Luke, he's gone and he died alone. Cried like a baby. That should have been the final scene.

It actually almost felt like I had put more thought into part of the actual story and possible outcomes over the last 12 months than those running the show. (Reys parentage.)

Still loved it.

See, I don't. I simply don't care what anyone else thought about it. I care much more about my personal experience. I've never been big on allowing someone else to influence my opinions on something. I need to formulate my own. Whether that be in relation to a movie, a place or even a person, doesn't matter. I've loved pretty much anything SW from as far back as I can remember but I'm not one of those hard core fan freaks who think they own the franchise and get all pissy over Episode 1 and Jar Jar etc.

Whilst they are not my favorites, it's not just about me and I do recognise that episodes 1 and two specifically have given us a whole new generation of Star Wars Fans who certainly very much enjoy them. Personally I think that's great. I hope they get as much enjoyment out of SW as I have had over the years.

I'm sure he'll be back as a force ghost. ;)

And Rey did bring the books so Yoda burning down the tree seemed silly in hindsight.

Made $45 million in previews versus $57 million for Force Awakens, is expected to have a $200 million open versus $250 million...this is going in the wrong direction for Disney but it is their own fault.

Go to George Lucas's house and scream at him about how we used to be better. I'm sure he'll appreciate your wordly insight.

You are confused, this is a developing story on how Disney suffers financially for continued bad story telling, it is a tale of justice, one I would have figured you might be interested in.

Gah, spoilers... running away from thread.

LOL only an internet noob would go to an ongoing movie discussion and not expect any spoilers. :2razz:

No. No. No. No.

This was the WORST Star Wars movie to come across the screen. The friggin holiday specials were probably better. This movie was TERRIBLE. And honestly? Maybe the skill of the actors or the good special effects? About the only saving graces. The plot made absolutely 0 sense. None. The Luke fight was cool. The Rey and Fin hug felt real. And that was about it. Kylo had the chance to be a bad ass but STILL came across like an angry child. Hell...the entire first order does. This movie...SUCKED.

South Park was right. Disney is raping Star Wars. Look no further than the stupid ass porgs.

Seriously. It is like they had never seen Star Wars before. Wtf? They tried to be preachy and all philosophical and comedy and drama and love. FFS I would take the shoe horned Love story of Po and Fin over this new bull****.

I will say...the Platonic friendship of Fin and Rey is the only one that feels real. Second only to Po and Fin. This movie made me angry.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi

I saw it last night. This was the worst Star Wars movie yet, IMO. All three of the prequel trilogy movies were better than this.

Huge disappointment.

Meh, the first two Stars War movies were good, the rest are all just various grades of schlock.

Yup. A New Hope mainly because it was a groundbreaker and a game-changer and like nothing we'd ever seen before when it first came out.

Rogue One was hands-down the BEST SW since the first one, it FELT far more real and gritty and serious, with real drama and a real story. I think it was so good in part because it was free to be what it was, instead of having to be a re-hash of IV, V or VI.

The latest one is better than TFA and had some beautiful visuals, but the story felt too contrived.

Looking forward to the Han Solo movie, and hoping it is good....

For me, the first trilogy will always stand as the best, because of how groundbreaking it was, how it changed sci-fi movie expectations, and of course because I was young and bright eyed when they came out.

Rogue One is, imho, the most comparable modern SW and has an awesome story.

BUT I've enjoyed every SW movie I've ever seen, even the ones that were kind of lame (like TFA) , just because they're Star Wars.

The phrase that keeps coming to my mind is "A beautiful hot mess". :) Something I just HAVE to see, no matter the plot holes, fractured storyline, hit-and-miss acting and dialog... its just too beautiful not to watch.

Yeah the First Order were pretty moronic. They just kept falling for the Rebel tricks time and time again lol. If I was a stormtrooper I would have shot Hux for being such a total incompetent- but then I would probably miss.
