Damn, that sounds a lot like Vancouver, my home town. It's gone from very whitebread when I was a kid (although there were small Japanese/Chinese/Indian populations), to the current 40% born outside Canada. And I agree with you, that makes for a great city.

I'm looking forward to the day when it's commonly understood that "white" isn't a race. If you study world history for all of 10 minutes you'll soon see that our history is a product of many intermingling populations, sometimes through war and other times through economics. The ease of genetic testing is showing us that "white people" aren't a homogeneous ethnic group. There are a lot of western Europeans with some Asian genetics due to the Mongol invasion, or African genetics from the various Arab conquests. This idea of "purity" is baseless. If you go back far enough, some foreigner was breeding with some local. The British isles saw Romans intermingling with locals, and now 1000+ years later we consider the product of that to be "white".

What hasn't changed is the tried and true political tactic of blaming government failures on immigrants. Nobody seems to put two and two together and notice that we don't tend to have an "immigration problem" during times of prosperity and peace. As soon as figures start to go south, suddenly immigrants are the reason.

The times they are a changing!

I live in a large multi-cultural city, and always have. I enjoy the excitement of cultural differences in food and people, and absolutely loved cross-cultural dating.

In fact, I always believed:

"If you want to know another culture - date them!

(And I did, whenever I could!)

So this decrease in Caucasian-Americans bothers me not in the least. Skin colour and ethnicity never meant much to me, to begin with.

And if you like experiencing diversity of cultures, then you have to maintain isolation. Having everyone live together leads to assimilation. We won't (and don't) have many unique cultures. We'll have one culture, and generally get the lowest moral values as a result.
