SpaceX Dragon capsule docks with space station - BBC News

America's new astronaut capsule has successfully docked with the International Space Station (ISS) as part of its demonstration mission.

The Dragon vehicle, launched by California's SpaceX company on Saturday, made the attachment autonomously.

Pretty neat to link up & dock autonomously. Capsule carried dummy 'Ripley' (after Alien/Aliens character) + 90 kgs of supplies. This is one of a series of test required by NASA before Musk can start sending real astronauts into space.

Soon the Soyuz death traps will be disposed of....Astronauts must be quite relieved.

The Soyuz "death traps" worked good while the USA had no other option.
The USA paid $82 million per head to ride the "death traps."
Nobody died.

Edit: nevermind. I thought it was unmanned, but the graphic in the article shows a "crew section".

Still cool. Still better than relying on Russia.

(And let this be another lesson to Musk's detractors: dude is building cars, space ships, etc. How many other people have done all these kinds of things simultaneously?

And think: let's say Tesla fails, but this still succeeds. That's a hell of a lot more than the vast majority of people accomplish.

He actually needs to relax a bit. But hey, if he can manage it for now, why not?)
