No, a straw purchase is the intentional purchase of a firearm illegally for a prohibited person. Registration does nothing to stop these crimes.

You are simply playing semantics. You can not know if someone is an allowed person unless they get a BC

What's that supposed to mean?

I've transferred dozens of weapons to my son, after they were transferred to me by my father. I'm pretty sure my son has a CCW, Equally as sure my father didn't. But it doesn't matter. Both transfers were legal.

A straw purchase involves a buyer going to a gun shop, filling out a form, passing a background check and selling it deliberately to a prohibited person. Form, background check, registration, everything you want and it still involves getting a gun in the hand of a prohibited person. None of your "solutions" would slow down this transaction at all. Every single straw purchase involves at least two felonies.

Private sales may or may not involve prohibited persons. We don't care as a society if two good guys transfer guns. We know that transfers between bad guys will ignore any registration or background check requirement, as they are already committing multiple felonies. The best way to prevent good guys selling to bad guys is to give them direct access to NICS. Good guys that are willing to go to an FFL for a transfer would also be willing to use an NICS app; private sellers that would never require a background check from a buyer won't care either way, but some buyers who feel that going to an FFL is too expensive and/or time consuming will use a free, instant app to check out a potential buyer.

I don't trust you not to molest kids. I don't know you. Can the state now exercise prior restraint? Heck we know that NICS is an incomplete database and plenty of prohibited persons aren't in that database. We should require complete FBI security investigations for each private sale, just to be sure.

I don't trust that you are a citizen. If you come back into the US from abroad I will not take your word for it. I will expect that you have filled out a long application that results in a background check and paid expensive fees for that passport

Thanks, every president since the law was enacted, and every Congress who failed to fund the ATF since the law was enacted.

How are you not getting this? Forcing law abiding citizens to spend money, take up their time, and jump through all the hoops you want in place, will not be followed by criminals any more than they do now.

Criminals don't go to gun shows where there are several LEO and seek out that lone person in the back booth selling daddies old guns. Criminals buy guns from other criminals. Criminals don't seek out civilians selling a couple guns, look them up, and make the purchase. They buy guns from other criminals.

It's a better idea to register criminals.

CCW holder for years. Current owner of a couple or so weapons.
Attended more than a few gun shows.
