Shepard Smith out at Fox News

Either Donald Trump doesn't know how polls work, or he's just straight up mad that Fox News didn't lie for him.

Well, he should be. Conservative interest groups and their increasingly controlled right-wing media outlets are entirely responsible for hollowing out the GOP over the course of a couple decades. By 2016, their years of irrational anti-Left broadcasting had pulled the center-right so further toward the far-right that the average conservative shrugged off the neo-Nazi and white supremacist next to him at Trump rallies. Conservative interest groups used propaganda on FOX News to pave the way for one of their own elitist "birthers" to capture the hearts of their viewers:

2012 Study: They found that someone who watched only Fox News would be expected to answer 1.04 domestic questions correctly compared to 1.22 for those who watched no news at all.

2015 Study: A new study by Bruce Bartlett, a conservative economist, top official in the H.W. Bush administration and domestic policy adviser to Ronald Reagan, concluded that Fox News viewers tend to be less informed and engage in "self-brainwashing."

2016 Study: William Poundstone has done similar surveys, both of current events and with more general knowledge. "In my research too, Fox News viewers scored the lowest of over 30 popular news sources (though Fox viewers did at least score better than those saying they didn't follow the news)."

These are separate studies, spread out and conducted over years, and routinely coming to the same conclusions. Since Donald Trump became the U.S. president, Murdoch has shown near absolute support for him in his media empire, which includes FOX News. And when Trump, himself, criticizes FOX News for not supporting him enough or rages against FOX News for presenting an unfavorable poll, FOX News viewers really should take notice to this reality. According to the FOX News tradition, in which Trump knows very well, FOX is supposed to support right-wing partisanship at the expense of betraying their own viewers. This is exactly why after Trump's Administration emailed out the spin instructions to the transcript, FOX News followed it to the letter. But the viewers have been so successfully manipulated and so instructed to see all the rest of the world as "fake news," that they have nothing else to define their reality. Trump's "fake news" tactic allows him to dismiss cold hard facts and responsibility; and his flock of fools swallow it whole.

Sure; that's why nobody knew his contract was ending today. /s

Are you really sure you want to pretend that employment contracts cannot have exit clauses baked into them?

Rupert has ceded most control of FNC to his kids but he is still the CEO for now, and this disastrous master stroke of scorched earth policy is probably one of his last acts of office in a Hail Mary pass to Trump.
Sooner or later, he's going to kick the bucket, and his kids, who aren't liberal by any stretch, will call the shots 100%.
They're not liberals but they do not buy into their old man's worldview 100 percent. Maybe not even 50%.

Shep Smith being let out of his contract was probably the last favor the old man could do for the Donald.

Might be able to watch at 3 now. Greta would be a good replacement if she'd come back.

Oh, right! Fantastic idea.

Just breaking, and not yet on the Fox News website at this moment. I must admit, I'm not at all surprised at this news.

Someone else will grab him up. Unlike other faces who have left Fox News in recent years, at least Shep Smith demonstrated integrity.

Not in the near future. Caught the end of his crying where he said something like the contract he signed with Fox bars him from reporting on another news channel. He didn't say for how long ... but said he'll be spending more time with his family now.

That means Sheppy did something baaaad on Fox and broke his contract. :lamo

It means Fox paid him the rest of the money they owed him to get him to leave.

Indeed. Informing FOX viewers is very bad. Trump's re-election chances hinge on keeping as many Americans as stupid as possible. And that's why so many people figure Trump has a good chance to win this election. I believe you do, don't you?

STUDY: Watching Only Fox News Makes You Less Informed Than Watching No News At All

Fox News viewers worst-informed, study finds - Telegraph

Your 1st reference was a 404 cannot be found & your 2nd referenced a FD poll. A FD poll, "Considering FDU's undergraduate
school is ranked as one of the worst in the country," a Fox News spokesman said, "we suggest the school invest in improving
its weak academic program instead of spending money on frivolous polling – their student body does not deserve to be so ill-informed."

FD is ten miles from where I grew up & the HS kids that had the funds to go to college but not the grades, gravitated there.
Someone has to be pretty stupid to offer up references from a left leaning English Rag to buffer up as evidence of your conclusion.
BTW, FD served a purpose to some of my friends who after graduation were able to get great jobs at the Ford Motor Plant in
Mahwah while going to night school at FD. The Ford Plant is no longer there do to the off shoring of the last 40 years.

So errand boy Barr is sent to meet with Murdoch and 48 hours later the last voice of reason on Fox News announces his resignation on air effective immediately.

It's incredible, our Attorney General sticking his fat neck into the lives and business of Fox and Shepard Smith. He's a disgusting traitor.

Barr had Shep fired....:2rofll:

will Durham name his replacement?:lamo

CNN is reporting that Smith made a cool $15 million per year. That is a lot of money for the station to eat.

Quote from the Wall Street Journal on the same topic:
Fox News Anchor Shepard Smith Steps Down After 23 Years on the Air - WSJ

‘It is my hope that the facts will win the day, that the truth will always matter,’ Mr. Smith said as he signed off his final broadcast

Fox News anchor Shepard Smith is leaving the network he has been a part of since it launched in 1996, a move that comes amid growing tensions between the channel’s opinion-show hosts and the news team.

When propaganda meets facts at Faux Noose, propaganda always wins.

This is good news for Megyn Kelly. She's been auditioning pretty hard on Twitter the last few weeks.

She was a total Fox sell-out. I cringe when I see her clips from the past.

I actually liked Shep...

The last couple years his opinions I'd find more annoying but, I still liked him as a personality....

But..Fox isn't turning into a liberal cesspool fast enough for him I suppose...

As a confessed liberal, why would you even consider watching the Trash Channel?

I tune in Fox News all the time. And I even tune in to the local Fox affiliate here in L.A., which is KTTV Channel 11.
I like to know what they are actually saying and doing. I don't spend an inordinate amount of time there but I also don't spend much time on the other cable news channels either, a few minutes here, a few there...

The thing is, most of the HARD NEWS lineup at FNC is rather unremarkable and hard news was Shep's wheelhouse.
Unremarkable in a GOOD way, they push the hard news and try to remain at least somewhat objective, about as objective as the other outlets.
It's the opinion, pundit and analysis shows and the morning zoo lineup which is such a cesspool.

The thing FNC does on their hard news is, they sometimes commit error by omission, in that some of the biggest stories just don't even get covered. But MSNBC and CNN have done that themselves.

Based on everything that's being reported, Smith wanted to get the Hell out of there.

Who can blame him?

I feel bad for Cavuto. He is one of only 2 decent people left there - the other being Bret Baier. They'll leave soon too I'll bet. Who wants to be associated with that joke of a network?

Chris Wallace pushed back against Stephen Miller's B.S. a couple of weeks ago. He's another one who hasn't totally sold out to the alt-right.

Shep may not go directly into a competing news slot, but like Megyn Kelly, he may land a talk show spot on a competing network. Non-compete clauses in contracts is usually very limited both in time and specific work. In other words, they can't bar him from ever appearing on TV again. Any court would rule that he is entitled to make a living after being dismissed from FOX.

Shep Smith's "goodbye" was very classy. He was very grateful for 23 years at FOX and all the opportunities he was afforded during his time there. He praised the company as a great place to work and his fellow co-workers which he said work tirelessly . Said he will dearly miss them. He said he wasn't leaving for a position at another network. His co-workers seemed flabbergasted in learning the news. All of them have closed their shows saying they were sad to learn he is leaving while praising his work over the years. Who knows what personal reasons Smith has for leaving. He's 55 and as of 2017 his net worth was 25 million. He certainly could retire comfortably while opening a new chapter in his life to pursue another adventure.

He was a class act alright ...

He was almost in tears the following day after Trump won the election. The internet was buzzing with bets on how much it takes for Sheppy's eyeliner to start running.
Not long after that, he cut out wearing eyeliner on Fox.

Nobody gave a **** about his eyeliner for years ... until he acted like a moron.

A news anchor having almost a meltdown on national TV over the guy who won the presidency ... that sure is a class act.

Eyeliner running? I mean, what could be more embarrassing than that?
