Senator Obama on Immigration

Carleen, seriously. You are the only liberal who weighed in on this thread. I applaud you for that. I don't agree with you, but I respect your loyalty. On a website with scores of liberals, here you are. I applaud your "courage." Seriously. Have a nice evening.

I stand by my statement. Have a nice day.

I always enjoy looking at threads which are deemed to be so important and world-shattering that a couple of hours is long enough to expect dozens of people responding, or to remark on the 'courage' of one person if those expectations aren't met.

It's particularly endearing when the author of the thread is the one who makes that humble assessment of their material

Well. I guess Australia really IS pissed.

So, no comment on the actual substance of thread from you then?

It helps to use a standard defintion of deportation vs. removal - Obama countns anyone not allowed to stay in the US not withstanding that they were mere yards from the border when "deported" which used to not count.

LA Times

that is like how Clinton changed the formula for unemployment to make the number look better than what it
really was.

lies, damn lies, and statistics.

That's a very good question. Somehow I get the feeling we won't be getting an answer from him.
I suspect that what Obama learned as president that caused him to change his tune was the importance of pandering to pressure groups

There's nothing in the OP to respond to, as far as I can see. As Roughdraft274 correctly guessed, Senator Obama's comments on illegal immigration seem to be measured and reasonable.

Well. I guess Australia really IS pissed.

What makes you say that?

Well yes when you change how you count the numbers it's easy to get them to say what you want.

No not true. There is no change in numbers. This is the number of people who have made it into United States or resided in United States illegally that were identified and sent back to the country of Origins. There is a very distinct definition of Deportation as there is a distinct definition of denial entry.

Here is a shocker...overwhelming majority of Illegal aliens are what is called Visa Jumpers, not people who walk/swim or crawl across the border. Which has been said that building the wall will have no impact on visa jumpers. As matter of fact negative impact since now the resources would be diverted to wall watchers who only will stare into emptiness and wait for nothing to happen.

When people start to deny the numbers, facts or stats because it does not fit their agenda or world view is the time to panic because we will stop looking for a solutions that works and just erect mindless policies and measures that will not solve the actual problems, because we are too busy solving the imaginary ones.

Just FYI . . .

What we know about Libs, which Obama perfectly illustrates and what must never forget:

1. Obama was reading words. Words that would serve him for that moment, figuring nobody would remember.

2. For Demokrats, there is no history. Every day is a new day, a clean slate.

3. Demokrats will say anything to further their Socialist agenda. It's what Socialists do... they lie, because nobody would vote for them if they told the truth.

Obama was given a chance to live up to those words... he did a 180. Was extremely aggressive in his pursuit in the other direction. He left our borders open. He got bitch slapped by the Supreme Court for his attempts on behalf of illegal invaders.

His actions revealed the true Obama... a liar, like virtually all Libs.

A livable wage you say?

Is that not what the fight for a higher min wage is about?

Wages are determined by supply and demand . More jobs and workers allow the workers to be able to demand higher pay or go elsewhere. Less jobs and more workers due to millions of people circumventing our immigration system and people cannot demand higher wages because there are more workers than jobs.

Minimum wage should only come into play when there are too many people to fill a particular job. This would mainly be unskilled labor and jobs that can be filled with part time workers such as college students.

An example would be a part time restaurant job in a college town where you have thousands of students trying to get a few hundred part time positions.

Of course when you flood the entire country with tens of millions of people who will work for less than minimum wage, no benefits, unsafe working conditions, and do not pay taxes because they are paid cash under the table it undermines the hard working citizen from demanding a livable wage, safe working conditions, benefits, and who will pay taxes.

Aaaand Obama then went on to deport more illegal immigrants than any other president in American history.

So what's your point?

Only if including people prevented from entering at boarder crossing as I understand it

Don't know. Either way, it represents him upping security at the border as well.

So, again, wondering what the point is here.
