Self-driving trucks in 5-10 years could displace 1.7 million truck drivers

I never, in any way shape or form, said that automated vehicles are a "salvation." Rather, they are an improvement. Trucking costs will go down; it will provide more autonomy to people who have a difficult time driving (seniors, disabled, intoxicated etc); and yes, they are very likely to be safer.
