White House lawyers started researching impeachment procedures this week in order to defend President Trump from potential efforts to remove him from office, reports CNN, citing "people briefed on the discussions."

I agree. Bill should not have taken that bet. I think sometime in the May to July 2018 timeframe is much more realistic.

The pre-requisite to impeachment is to have Trump's poll numbers need to be in the low 30's. That will take awhile (though Gallup had him at 37% yesterday). Then he becomes toxic to the Republicans so they will have to impeach him as a matter of self-preservation. It also needs to be just before the election season so that it looks as if Republicans policed their own.
 
Impeachment is only at the end of this rainbow if Democrats sweep both houses in 2018. The most realistic scenario until then is for the investigations and Trump's repeated scandals (of his own making) to essentially paralyze the Republican agenda and/or continue to highlight how they're bad for regular Americans, thereby making them unelectable next year.

The only way impeachment is happening before a successful Democratic route is if something truly extraordinary happens, and that thing hasn't happened yet.

I fully expect impeachment proceedings to be started by Congress in October or November.

If Trump does not have Holly GoLightly, the Penguin, the Joker, the Riddler, and Fish Mooney with Barbara Kean by his side with other Villains of Gotham, His Huge Orangeness will be gone before summer of next year, which will work well for the GOP going into primary season.
 
Trump's attorneys should just tell Don Cheeto, "son, you done ****ed up; bend over and take it like a bad boy"

GOPs own the Judiciary committee 24-17, mostly with hard-liners who have easy CDs. I don't see any way that 4 of them will flip.

DEMs must take the house in 2018 and start proceedings if there's a case. Take as many state legislative and governor seats as possible while they're at it. Hold serve in the senate.

Leave trump dangling as a lame duck in 2019 as DEMs prepare for a landslide in 2020 .
 
Predicting after the mid-terms is the safe and practical... and, yes, probable... prediction, but I still say if something big enough comes up the Reps will drop Trump like a bad habit and throw him under the bus so fast it'll make everyone's head spin. They aren't as overly enamored with him as his supporters here are. If it's big enough they might view it as a way to cover their own asses in the mid-terms.

I admit that's a big "if", though.

Exactly, we're expecting the prosecutor to find evidence of collusion with russia, and evidently so are the lawyers

The Democrats have to defend 29 seats, the GOP has to defend 9, 8 of which are in Red states

10 of those Democrat seats are in States Trump won and now you've got a foul mouthed Leftist hack running the DNC
How exactly are the Dems going to pull off taking back both Houses ? Win seats that arent up for election ?
