Nov 14 (Reuters) - Three people were killed in a shooting at an elementary school in Northern California on Tuesday and the shooter was killed by law enforcement, Sacramento television station KCRA reported.

A number of students were airlifted as a result of the shooting at Rancho Tehama School near the community of Corning, the station reported, citing a sheriff's official.

"I know of at least three deaths," Tehama County Assistant Sheriff Phil Johnston told KCRA.

Johnston added that the shooter was shot to death by law enforcement and that officers had been sent to multiple scenes in the area. He could not say how many people in total had been killed or wounded.

Sadness strikes again...and it sounds like it started at a house where probably one of the students/teachers lived

Not a gun problem....a mental health problem, and we need to solve it fast

My heart goes out to the parents and families

And the story doesn't even show up yet on CNN's front page. Guess that school shootings really are the new normal. 'MURICA!

I'm glad the cops aired his ass out before he killed anyone else.

reality

if it's black on black crime, the left ignores.

If an illegal alien rapes or murders someone, the left ignores

If someone runs people down in the name of islam, the left says "but but right wing christians".

If a left wing athiest shoots up a church the left says "mental health and gun control"

You need to go back to facebook and get a new picture, yours is bunk.

Hey NRA and supporters....Is it still "too early" to have a conversation about responsible and reasonable gun regulation in the United States?

They're like traffic accidents. Too bad, so sad! **** happens. Can't do anything about it.

How do you propose we solve it?

To get the jump on the discussion that's apparently brewing in this thread:

What possible regulation would prevent an individual who has failed to throw any mental health "red flags" from purchasing a pair of semi-automatic hand guns, a couple spare clips, and a case of ammo and shooting up a school?

I don't have any details on this specific incident that's not in this thread. The shooter may very well have had mental health issues that went unnoticed and/or undocumented. But as a hypothetical... because that's were the conversation always ends up anyway, What could be done to prevent this if the shooter showed no mental health symptoms?

So very sad, killings at multiple locations. Very possibly the shooter's family members shot.

Yeah, cant help but speculate on the whole angry white male thing, recycled for another week. Wash, rinse, repeat...

How do you propose we solve it?

we actually fund mental health facilities again

we take away the stigma of counseling.....

we help people face their issues....everyone has problems, but most people dont shoot people because of them

we tamper down the rhetoric and hate that is spewed by both sides and get people talking again

i dunno the rest.....but way too many people are way too angry....and instead of talking about it with someone, they are figuring out a way to take it out on as many people as they can

agreed

Oh look, another shooting, with guns, of kids and innocents. Let's talk about healthcare.

5 dead
At least 5 dead in apparent random shootings near California elementary school - ABC News

At least five people are dead from apparent random shootings today in rural Northern California. The shootings took place in seven locations, including an elementary school, police said. The dead included the shooter, who was killed by police.

One student was shot at the Rancho Tehama School, an elementary school in Corning, about 130 miles north of Sacramento, police said. The student was taken to a hospital. No deaths were reported at the school, according to Ann Bates, administrative assistant to the superintendent of the Corning Union Elementary School District.

Authorities said a child and an adult woman were shot in a truck. They were also transported to hospitals.

Has any mass shooter not had red flags? I know most have. And if we can diagnose and treat, getting a gun becomes a non-issue.

You're using a lightning strike chance to cast doubt on our ability to address the problem of mass shootings through mental health infrastructure expansion and the social acceptance of counseling. Then, you skip the effectiveness of counseling and social reform to return to your agenda of gun control.

Your post is a hand-wave against real and effective proposals, and kinda under-handed.

The NRA and right-wing's answer is ALWAYS....nothing will help prevent gun violence....so lets just keep doing nothing. That isn't an acceptable answer anymore. Reasonable and responsible gun regulation may not prevent every act of gun violence but it will prevent some of them and certainly is better than doing nothing.

We could always try growing better adults.

Strawman used to launch into a gun control rant.

California has the strictest gun laws in the country what more gun control could they have done?

Apparently,it is not a school shooting but students were some of the wounded.

Not that it makes it any better.

EDIT: Okay, I went back to get link and I think I misread what they reported. Very little info but maybe the school was involved just, at the moment, no casualties.
Jeanine Quist, an administrative assistant with the Corning Union Elementary School District, says no one was killed at the school but a “number” of students were shot and wounded.

Not at all. Come up with something that doesn't involve banning gun ownership and we can talk all you want.
