Another Republican bowing out of reelection.

Rep. Tom Rooney Is the Latest Republican Who Isn't Seeking Reelection in 2018

Florida Rep. Thomas Rooney is the latest Republican who will not seek re-election in 2018, according to Politico’s Jake Sherman.

In a statement tweeted by Sherman, Rooney said, “After what will be 10 years in the United States Congress representing the good people of Florida’s Heartland, it’s time to “hang em up” as my old football coach used to say.”

“I look forward to serving Florida again in the future in a different capacity,” he continued after thanking his staff and his family. “Keep the faith. Slainte! Rooney out.”

Rooney, whose Florida district included Okeechobee, Sebring, and Punta Gorda, joins a growing list of incumbents not running for re-election in 2018. According to Ballotpedia, nine Democratic and 23 Republican members of Congress have decided not to run for reelection in 2018.

Sounds like the Dem. good ol' boys network is running strong. No change. Keep everything the same. Keep auto-voting for the same old, same old. At least the Reps. are willing to step down and let some fresh ideas into the conversation. Pres. Trump, as much as you hate him, has brought a lot of new ideas to the table. Had Clinton been elected, we would have had NO new ideas, just the same old tired rhetoric we've heard for 30 years. This changing of the guard for the Reps. and maintaining the status quo for the Dems. reflects far more negatively on the Dems than it does on the Reps.

Rather craftily, the article does not way what a normal drop out rate would be for the first mid term in a president's administration, that would be telling. There is a very mild slant here though "growing list of incumbents", I always used "growing list" or "growing numbers" as a means of indicating it is a significant change, while in fact they are passive words.

What stood out? Nine Democrats are calling it quits, while 23 Republicans are. That is surprising, 2 and a half to one against the party in power. That may be a first.

An open border, mass immigrationist, gun grabbering neo con scum bag decides to leave before being thrown out...Good.

Article from early January.

A record-breaking 31 House Republicans won't seek re-election in 2018

A whopping 31 House Republicans will not be seeking re-election in November, NPR reports, including Rep. Darrell Issa (Calif.), who announced his impending retirement from Congress on Wednesday. The 2018 GOP exodus is a new record: The last time there was such a massive departure from Congress was when 28 Democrats left in 1994, and Republicans subsequently seized control.

Most significantly, Republicans in states won by Hillary Clinton are leaving in droves.

Younger more relevant up and comers are being recruited by the Republicans. The millienials are entering maturity with families and homes, and are aware that someday they will retire, so their economic future has become more relevant to them. the Democrats only seem to attracting social disrupters, whereas the Republicans are attracting government disrupters.

I’m glad to see the old guard stepping down. It’s a new world.

Plus, if the dems take the House, I hope they will impeach Trump. It will kill the markets and the appetite for economic growth, and people will hate them. And in the meantime, it will fail in the senate.

You know you just flat out stated that you are rooting against America just to land a personal political victory right?

Pres. Trump, as much as you hate him, has brought a lot of new ideas to the table.

New dumb ideas like building a 3rd-century wall that everyone agrees makes no sense. Moving back to fossil fuels makes no sense. Bush tax cuts are an old idea that didn't work. We're just going to get massive deficits again.

Walls work the world over. India, Saudi Arabia, Israel, Mexico. Your side just lies and says it will not work because its the end of your importation scam if it gets built. Fossil Fuels are the cheapest source per unit of energy for the cost of production.

Your side killed Thorium.

Coming from the side that protects invaders over Americans, that is just too funny.

It’s the same thing the democrats want but for different reasons.

Funny how we when root against leftists we root against America but when leftist root against America is always for a noble cause, is it not?

Tax cuts based on the old supply-side lie are not a new idea. A wall is not a new idea. And trying to stop everything Obama does/did is not a new idea either.

I will grant that claiming everything but positive coverage "fake news" is new, so too is throwing hissy fits on twitter like a severly concussed but still techy six year old, and so too is laughing off foreign attempts to infiltrate and interfere with our election systems. But that's the kind of "new" that helps a democracy unravel itself.

Replacing career politicians is a potentially positive thing, but it won't go so well if the incomers are like Trump. Any day now he'll go full President Camacho.

If it works it need not be new.

If dems take the House, there isn't a chance in hell that Pelosi will take up impeachment. Shes too politically savvy to do that no matter how much her base squeals.

This coming from a guy so anti-immigrant that he doesn't know that America is a nation of immigrants built by immigrants. That's far more funny.

Dems are dumb enough to put forth that what trump is doing is good for america. So... welcome to the left even though your logic is broken.

Nope, for ourselves and our posterity, very clear why we founded this nation.

That's a shame. He's a good guy. Had a noble military career. He was even a Constitutional and Criminal Law professor at West Point. Young, bright, well liked. He beat the incumbent Dem who took over Mark Foley's seat after Foley resigned in disgrace. I'm sorry he's leaving. I didn't agree with everything he did, but I did respect him.

Did you know he's the grandson of Art Rooney Senior, the Steelers' founder?
