I just read a "diary" on another site and it seems that AOC's proposal doesn't go far enough. Their idea is that the GND is more about influencing demand where the real emphasis needs to be on ceasing production. The diarist doesn't offer any specifics but it seems that nothing less than elimination of all fossil fuels will be acceptable.
I feel like the last decade or so has removed all filters on crazy. I feel like there used to at least be a pretense at rational goals and taking reasonable steps to achieve them. I assume you mention the diary because they want those fuels gone yesterday with no transition or regard for insane costs or inability to replace them on a functioning level.
The majority of consumers would be just fine with eliminating use of fossil fuels. That is, as long as it's done intelligently and phased out. I personally don't care how my lights turn on as long as I can rely on them doing so.
I feel like 20 years ago, liberal was being thrown around as a slur and no one would admit to being in the socialist party. Now they are a primary branch of the left. Is my memory just off?
