Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Releases Green New Deal Outline

I just read a "diary" on another site and it seems that AOC's proposal doesn't go far enough. Their idea is that the GND is more about influencing demand where the real emphasis needs to be on ceasing production. The diarist doesn't offer any specifics but it seems that nothing less than elimination of all fossil fuels will be acceptable.

I feel like the last decade or so has removed all filters on crazy. I feel like there used to at least be a pretense at rational goals and taking reasonable steps to achieve them. I assume you mention the diary because they want those fuels gone yesterday with no transition or regard for insane costs or inability to replace them on a functioning level.

The majority of consumers would be just fine with eliminating use of fossil fuels. That is, as long as it's done intelligently and phased out. I personally don't care how my lights turn on as long as I can rely on them doing so.

I feel like 20 years ago, liberal was being thrown around as a slur and no one would admit to being in the socialist party. Now they are a primary branch of the left. Is my memory just off?

Gosh. That's odd. She didn't mention the need to cut the military in half, and confiscate privately-owned gasoline automobiles. Wonder why she left that section out.

Are they gonna install electric stations in foreign countries to fuel our electric tanks in case we go to war? Will lawnmowers be electric? What if the grass is wet?

Oh you would be so so wrong. I really wish I wasn’t bound by client confidentiality. The myths and perceptions that people like yourself parrot, I would love to confont you with reality.

If they don't pay taxes at all, how does the top 1% cover %40 of all collected income tax revenue? And how does the top 10% cover 70%? Worth mentioning they actually only collect %20 and %47 of taxes respectively, meaning they pay a higher percentage of their income and cover most of the income taxes in general.

I like things just the way they are!

If you read all the bullet points of what this moron is proposing it has a lot more to do about a wet dream of progressives than anything else. This proposal is dead in the water so I submit you will continue to enjoy things the way they are.

Promising free stuff usually doesn't go over too badly in an election. Also, the left is pretty sure they have an easy win in 2020, so they are going with the further left candidates. They better hope they don't end up going too far putting up someone as crazy as Clinton or it will be another close fight, no matter how many independents Trump offends.

Not only is her plan dumb, it is totalitarian in design. People wonder why socialism fails and ultimately descends into dictatorship need only to examine this plan. Who is this 29 year old know-nothing and what makes her think she has the right to make the rules for how every American must live? What fuel is permitted for us to use? She is a socialist and a totalitarian and an idiot in no particular order. And as bad as she is, the cowardly democrats who dont dare criticize her and embrace her ignorance are worse

The arrogance that she knows what is best comes from the attitude of moral superiority SJWs and socialists. If you disagree, you are just a racist or denier or whatever label lets them dismiss you in that context. I mean here, we're saving the planet and giving everyone the perfect job and happiness. What kind of horrible person are you to think there might be flaws in that plan!?

As for calling her out, I do imagine she gets a lot of feedback behind closed doors. If they fight her publicly, they will subject themselves to the same name calling and dismissive behavior. Besides, they want to seem unified.

Hell, when they do fight their own, it ends up with stuff like the attacks on Bernie. He is now a racist because he treated the black woman the same as anyone else and did his usual rebuttal to SOTU after she did hers. He should have shut up and let her keep the spotlight and it's only because she's black that he's doing the same thing he has for years. I'm looking forward to watching the liberal tears again after Trump wins in 2020. Whacko's like AOC will make sure that happens.

The Democrats better cut these people off before it spreads too far.

Proposals like these look pretty on paper until you realize the cost and the unintended consequences. Then there is the not so good history of Socialism.

Please tell us how that happens....

The man barely won a Russian aided election in which he carried Wisconsin, Pennsylvania and Michigan by less than 80,000 votes, mostly economically diseffected independents and democrats willing to give him a chance. He has done nothing to deliver on his empty promises to those people. Have you looked at the 2018 elections, particularly just how blue Wisconsin, Pennsylvania and Michigan were in 2018?

Meanwhile 53% of Americans think Trump is unfit for office (not doing a bad job, but they believe he can't do the job)

https://poll.qu.edu/national/release-detail?ReleaseID=2567
https://poll.qu.edu/national/release-detail?ReleaseID=2593

and 57% said they absolutely would not vote for him in 2020 (not probably not, absolutely not)....

Trump has done nothing to expand his base. It has been doing nothing but constricting, as evidenced by fact that he can not drive his approval any higher than 44%.

Sorry, but the facts tell us that a Trump reelection is anything other than a fantasy on your part. I am sure others would like to hear you make the logical case for his reelection. We will be awaiting.

Part of her New Green Deal is to " Get rid of farting cows "...
No joke, that's verbatim

So are we going to slaughter millions of cows ? Her New Green deal isn't even original. She stole Canada's " Leap Manifesto " plan and put her name on it

No, the majority of Americans do not support this Marxist fool or her regressive agenda.

I don't think switching America over to a high fiber diet will really solve the country's farting problem, anyway.

Totalitarian governments require a large armed forces.

Welcome to the new age of politics, everybody:

Although it's just an outline it's a huge step forward to move the conversation in the right direction. Yes there are some problems, but I agree with about 90% of this proposal and if all you do is nit-pick it, then I assume you agree with 90% of it too!

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Releases Green New Deal Outline

If she just gets some of this passed and conventional thinking says she just might pull it off. She'll be on equal playing field with the President of the United States in terms of legislative deals. Trump's comprehensive tax reform plan is the only thing even remotely comparable to this that he's done or thought of.
The Green New Deal Outline read like a propaganda pamphlet, “A Redder Shade of Green” (https://climateandcapitalism.com/2017/06/26/redder-shade-intersections/). In the article, “Angus points out that socialists have to learn to relate to these movements to bring about the change we need and that this can be part of the root towards fundamental social change. As he says, if we can’t stop an oil pipeline, we won’t overthrow capitalism.”

Heil Green New Deal! Like the watermelon, green on the outside, red on the inside.

The problem with your wishful thinking crap is that we've been having wishful thinking for the past 100 years in the hopes that rich people will invest in our national infrastructure. We actually got so bad we elected a rich guy who wanted to build a wall and he can't even do that properly! If there's legislative framework for upgrading infrastructure and fixing the transit system. I'm all for it.

Rich people definitely do invest in infrastructure. There is an entire segment in Investment Banking called "Project Finance & Infastructure" (look it up).

Sounds like you're just butt hurt that no one will waste the money to invest in stupid ****...

Alright, lets start from the top here. Going by CBECS standards, there was around 5.6 million commercial buildings (alone) in 2012. With over 87 billion square feet of foot space.
https://www.eia.gov/consumption/commercial/reports/2012/buildstock/
Taking into account that this doesn't outright cover residential, or industrial buildings and after taking a rough estimate on how much it would take to actually take to completely make a normal home more energy efficient.
We're talking a price tag of several hundred billion alone. That will most likely go up by around 12-15% over a few years and that's around my mid range estimation. Because there are plenty of people living in the mid-west, or other flyover states. Still living in homes that were originally built in the late 30s.

A rail way covering almost the entire country, wouldn't normally be an insane proposition. Seeing as rough estimate has it costing around 1-2 million per mile of rail and the united states is something like 2.7k miles in width. (googles 2,680) not accounting for vertical length. Though the issue wouldn't be the cost. It would be the time necessary to complete such a project. Seeing as my best example would be England, as they have a rather explnsive rail system and they've been building it since the early, to late 80s.

We can touch on the rest after these.

Why is anyone taking this woman seriously?

Because the Dems think she will deliver the youth and/or the dumb vote? After all 50% of US citizens are below average intelligence.

They want to build a railway across the country but they don't want to build a wall on the southern border.

1) Whacko's like AOC

2) The Democratic party is self destructing before our very eyes....Warren, AOC, Schiff, Virginia, Russian/Trump collusion officially debunked etc.

3) Do we really want to talk about polls?

4) The Dems have gone too far too the left. Socialism will be the buzz word in 2020. Socialism....Not good!

5) The wall will get built and the results will show it's value.

6) 88% of independents loved the SOTU.

7) The left's hypocrisy will be revealed regarding the wall and racism and sexual assault.

8) Betting against Trump is like betting against the Patriots. Have you not learned your lessen?

Spoken by someone who is totally clueless on our U.S. economy and total lack of understanding as to the costs associated with these kinds of proposals. Supporters obviously aren't taxpayers thus have no problem raising taxes on others to create that liberal utopia that the previous groups of liberals could never create.

What makes anyone believe that her proposals are viable, would be effective, and wouldn't create increases in the size of gov't thus actually bankrupt us?

Seems to me personal responsibility doesn't exist in the country today and expectations that the ultra rich can fund programs like these is actual stupidity.

Because the Dems think she will deliver the youth and/or the dumb vote? After all 50% of US citizens are below average intelligence.

The Dems are all about identity politics and not about voting the best person in. This is terrible for the country. Obama won because he is black(sort of). Hillary was the candidate because she's a women(sort of). You are absolutely correct about the dumb vote. look at the type of people who vote Democrat. I wouldn't be so quick to brag about Hillary winning the popular vote. I'd prefer to get votes from quality people.

They want to build a railway across the country but they don't want to build a wall on the southern border.

I know, just don't think too hard about it. Because it's obvious that they haven't either.

It's no coincidence her plan would gut the US military which would leave the Nation's we've pledged to defend vulnerable.

If we asked China, Russia, North Korea or Iran to come up with a energy policy proposal for the US, I'm betting it would look a lot like Occasio's New Green Deal

One provision in her Green New Deal:

“Expanding high-speed rail to ‘a scale where air travel stops becoming necessary"

No wonder it's no longer on her website.

This is one of the things that's wrong with democracy: a dumb vote and and a quality vote count the same. I see no way of getting around this. An amelioration like raising the voting age to, say, 35 is not practical politics.

So we are stuck with democracy - the least bad system

SIAP. What the heck is her 'preventing climate change' initiative, anyway, in this bill? I don't see any mention of allowing nuclear power and nuclear power is clean. And her attack of cow flatulence? Cow flatulence constitutes less than 1 percent of all greenhouse gases, so, A.O.C. is attacking less than 5 percent of all greenhouse gases in her bill's attempt to prevent catastrophic climate change that all the environmental wonks claim is imminent.

Maybe her bill is about clean water and air? Well, she's not concerned with clean water and air in the zones where undocumenteds cross into the US 'cause those areas and covered with filth and trash...she's against walls..

Will someone please explain what her bill is about?
