Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Releases Green New Deal Outline

Which is why I said if AOC gets any of this passed she'll be on level playing field w/the President. He hasn't gotten a dime from Democrats. Will AOC get some Republican votes on this? They seem to like her tax plan.

Folks love tax plans that lower their own taxes and/or raise taxes on someone else.

The overreaction is off the chart, it is just a nonbinding resolution with no greater strength than a congratulations to the save the northern spotted owl society.

The outline itself has plenty to agree with and plenty to be critical of, but this is hardly breaking news... even if it does set off all the conservatives already freaking out over anything she says, or even wears.

Funny, I thought this was a post asking for opinions and discourse. No one has claimed this was presented to become law or more than a wild pot-hazed dream.

Your characterization of the reaction is as silly as you are trying to make respondents out to be.

I think its news because she was only talking about it before. This here is the official report, on paper and one of her first actions as a politician.

Also, I'm not sure how much revenue we get from taxing income above 10 mil. Can't imagine it's the 10s of trillions required to reach these "goals".

Maybe we can just find what closet the DOD left that 21 trillion in. Surely it's still just laying around to be found and spent.

That might be a step towards universal income, I can't say I agree with this one, but again it's a wide proposal that I agree with 90%. She's looking at this stuff with clear eyes.

This might be a step towards exposing the total lack of economic viability of the AOC "plan". She's just spewing dreams of the DSA land of unicorns and rainbows with no clue as how to implement any of this nonsense. Once everything deemed 'essential' is transformed to non-profit status then the tax base required to fund her DSA utopia dries up.

Especially the mega-rich, who have seen their effective tax rates drop substantially in the last 50 years, all the while the poor and middle class have been making up for it. Time to right that wrong.

You are simply too focused on those mere details - AOC will soon have months of experience designing systems to run national socialist economies.

LOL, oh Lord, bless this painfully stupid woman.

He had two years with a GOP House and GOP Senate and didn’t do dick. Don’t give me this “opposition from the Democrats” bull****.

I think he was trying to find a way to do it with funding other than congress at first.

If my history is correct.

You mean those same rich people who pay 90 percent of the total tax burden?

Welcome to the new age of politics, everybody:

Although it's just an outline it's a huge step forward to move the conversation in the right direction. Yes there are some problems, but I agree with about 90% of this proposal and if all you do is nit-pick it, then I assume you agree with 90% of it too!

If she just gets some of this passed and conventional thinking says she just might pull it off. She'll be on equal playing field with the President of the United States in terms of legislative deals. Trump's comprehensive tax reform plan is the only thing even remotely comparable to this that he's done or thought of.

She's a moron as is anyone who agrees with her agenda.
France already tried to implement a 70% wealth tax back in 2012 and 2 years later were forced to abandon it after revenues fell and their GDP stagnated

If we asked China, Russia or Iran to come up with a energy policy proposal for the US, it would look a lot like Occasio's New Green Deal.
It would gut the US economy while our global adversaries took advantage of America's weakness by continuing to rely on fossil fuels to grow their economies and militaries.

I have no patience for people that are stupid enough to buy into her nonsense.

I gotta give her this ... she really does make me smile. I can't wait to see what experience actually does for her.

Majority of americans are in line with progressive ideas. This is statistically asserted and the evidence supports the claim. Most americans want higher taxes on the rich, something to be done about climate change, are pro choice, favor envrionmental protections, favor regulations that protect natural resources, favor restrictions for mental health and gun ownership, favor increasing minimum wage, single payer, legal cannabis.

You name it, the majority are in line with progs.

Now, I think the new green deal is a stepping stone, however, I am against anything including a carbon tax. I haven't read her proposal, but at least she has one, which is more than I could say for 90% of the republicon and dimocrats in the house.

If any of that is doable, it should be doable by means of private enterprise. If it requires Federal Government force, it's not a good thing.

Of course, AOC...being a socialist...is all for the government forcing people to do...and to pay for...things they don't really want or care about.

On a side note...I wonder if AOC has ever had a serious talk with Nancy?

What mega-rich? We will all soon have very high marginal tax rates (for those at the tippy top) to fund guaranteed (federal?) jobs for all (poof - no more poor folks) which will make getting or remaining mega-rich impossible.

Y'all still telling that lie?

I’ll assume that was in error.

Ooooookay. Nobody got rich in the 1950s, apparently.

"Dead on Arrival"

“It will be one of several or maybe many suggestions that we receive,” Pelosi told Politico on Wednesday. “The green dream or whatever they call it, nobody knows what it is, but they’re for it right?”

Pelosi took a more conciliatory tone on Thursday, saying: “Quite frankly, I haven’t seen it, but I do know it’s enthusiastic and we welcome all the enthusiasm that is out there.” She also named Democratic members to serve on the new Select Committee on the Climate Crisis, but Ocasio-Cortez was not one of those members.

... The ding by Pelosi comes just as Ocasio-Cortez and Sen. Ed Markey, D-Mass., are teasing the ambitious deal and set to unveil it at a Thursday afternoon press conference. The measure is currently in a form of a non-binding resolution -- meaning even if it passes it won’t do anything. But it formally outlines the proposal in Congress for the first time and would mark a start on the path toward what Ocasio-Cortez has called “a wartime-level, just economic mobilization plan to get to 100% renewable energy.” Cost estimates for the sprawling proposal range into the trillions. ..."

Somebody needs to welcome Nancy Pelosi to "the new age of politics", then.

When the leader of the Democratic party openly disses it, I think it's highly unlikely that it's going to get anything resembling serious consideration anytime soon.
