Protesters block Betsy DeVos from entering public school in Washington

I fully respect, and even courage, the protesters exercising their right to protest.

I do not support their blocking or impeding one's lawful progress.

Their organizers need to do a better job. This is not how you win the war.

The problem with many liberal protests is that while ultimately their cause can be good one, they don't go about it with the intention of actually changing minds, but rather its this big catharsis for them where they all just get together and bitch about things.

It's become a protest contest. Each is trying to out-protest the other. Raise the ante. I fear one is coming where a whole lot of people get hurt.

I fear this as well. If the protest turn even more violent, there are going to be people who start showing up to confront the violence if they see these violent protesters getting away with it. This has a lot of indications of a situation that's going to end badly.

Protesting is fine. Blocking her entry is not. Frankly, I want her to have as much exposure to public schools as possible. I want her seeing the students and meeting the teachers and administrators. Cutting her off from that is not going to make her better at the job.

Many liberals are outraged that someone is meeting with poor children and want to prevent her from hearing that these people who work and attend failing schools support her agenda.

How was she assaulted?

In most states, an assault/battery is committed when one person: 1) tries to or does physically strike another, or 2) acts in a threatening manner to put another in fear of immediate harm.

And believe me hay when I say there are some criminal judges out there that take the #2 definition seriously.

There's nothing in that article that says that. Just that she did get there and made a statement. Nothing about the protest or her reaction to the protest whatsoever. Most likely, she left that entrance and went in another.

U.S. Education Secretary Betsy DeVos traveled to Jefferson Middle School Academy today and met with D.C. Public Schools Chancellor Antwan Wilson, Jefferson Academy Principal Greg Dohmann, Superintendent Natalie Gordon, Chief of Schools John Davis, and other school leaders and administrators, including Jefferson Academy teachers and students.

The following is a statement from Secretary DeVos:

"I thank D.C. Public Schools Chancellor Antwan Wilson, Jefferson Middle School Academy Principal Greg Dohmann, Superintendent Natalie Gordon and a tremendous team of administrators, teachers and students for welcoming me to Jefferson Middle School Academy today. Jefferson Academy is a public middle school on the rise and a great example of the successful collaborative innovations occurring within the D.C. Public Schools system.

"Focusing on their students and families is at the heart of Jefferson Academy's approach, and that's exactly what I believe is at the heart of providing an exceptional education. Great teachers and leaders help make great schools, and I was honored to speak with Jefferson's team about our shared commitment to strengthening public education.

"I respect peaceful protest, and I will not be deterred in executing the vital mission of the Department of Education. No school door in America will be blocked from those seeking to help our nation's school children."

DeVos had 22 years to help get Charter Schools right in Michigan .

Yet the Charter Schools Rank lower than the public schools.

Did you read the article I gave you? Because the conclusion of the study discussed for Detroit there says:

"Based on the findings presented here, the typical student in Michigan charter schools gains more learning in a year than his TPS counterparts, amounting to about two months of additional gains in reading and math. These positive patterns are even more pronounced in Detroit, where historically student academic performance has been poor. These outcomes are consistent with the result that charter schools have significantly better results than TPS for minority students who are in poverty."

It sends the same message as ***** hats, ***** this and ***** that.... entitlement and frivolity.

Spleens are vented and fun is had but this is going in reverse for the progressives.

The best part of that protest was how they had a murderer and rapist speak that just got out of a 25 year sentence a few years ago. Classic feminism. Rape bad! Here, listen to this woman that raped, tortured and killed a man tell you all about it. :lamo

*Sigh* Some of these protesters are just doing the most.

Please just protest without blocking her access to the building. Don't be assholes.

I honestly can't say I care one way or the other. I tend to take the perspective that following the first week of his presidency and seeing how he's going to govern, there's no reason to show anyone in his administration any respect. I'll be interested in showing his administration the tiniest amount of respect when he stops getting Spicer to make bald-faced lies to the American media and by extension, American citizens. But until then and other issues have been addressed, there's no point in feigning niceties.

What gets me is they think this is whats needed to reconnect with all those Americans who abandoned the Democratic party over the last 6 years. That violence, temper tantrums and oppression against anyone who disagrees with them is endearing to the American voter. That and organizing to make sure a LOT of butt-hurt Hillary supporters show up at GOP Town Halls so they can shout down Politicians they never voted for and would never vote for

They're demanding that the GOP NOT listen to their constituents and NOT abandon a Obama agenda thats led to debilitating losses over the last 6 years for the Democratic party. They're defending ObamaCare for Christ sake...Lol !!

I'm glad to see these extremists push the Democratic Party down even further. Reasonable Americans are watching all this and drawing their conclusions about what that party stands for.

Sure, but that does not mean that the street fighters see much of any money. I tend to think, based upon those I have heard of personally, that getting paid would ruin it for them.

Well yeah, I don't think that they are being paid a wage or anything, although there were reports that at the inauguration some protesters were saying that they were paid $20 an hour to be there and protest, I'll have to see if I can find that again....But, no I think most just think it's edgy, or cool to be out there runnin' wild...Maybe they could be given $20 or $50 bucks 'walkin round' money....

Hi there FieldTheorist, Could you lay out for me the "lies" that you believe have been told through Spicer, and maybe we can agree....

I read the article you posted and it does not take into account that charter school do not educate children with learning differences.

Students like my son who has dyslexia and or dysgraphia will bring down reading tests of the entire schools.

Take their test scores out of the equation and Charter Schools perform the same or worse than public schools.

When a school can cherry pick their students based on no learning disabilities/differences than sure they can gain about 2 months which sure is not much considering they are refusing to educate those children who need it the most.

No doubt. I bet they are bleeding moderates like crazy right now.

We shouldn't get too far ahead of ourselves yet in taking schadenfreude on the democrats...Remember the '60s were worse than this, and the democrats survived....

If they keep pulling this kind of crap they will bleed even more support for it. The more I think about it the more I think the right shouldn't complain about it. Just let them keep doing stupid crap and reap the benefits from it.

You always have at option being a nice person in reality, leading by example and all that.
