President Trump won’t attend White House correspondents’ dinner

Yup much like the DNC being too cowardly to allow fox to host any of their debates, but I'm sure you will have a reason why that's different and OK with you.

Trumps a coward but the Democrat nominees are what?

Fox is a propaganda mouthpiece for the trump administration and an institution for creating and disseminating conspiracy theories. They're not in any sense a legitimate news network and why Democrats go on there is beyond me.

Let us know when the Repubs agree to debate on MSNBC...

Would you lend an event, that was hostile toward you and loaded with thinly veiled attacks on you, the prestige of your office by attending?

I'm guess you're confused why people go to their own roasts.

So you think what was done to Sarah Sanders was good natured? Do you think what they will say about Trump is going to be good natured? I don't think you understand what a roast is

Let's be fair: since the beginning of Trump's war on the press, good nature went out the window. As I already said, it makes no sense for trump to go to the WHCD anyway, for reasons I've already stated.

As opposed to the presses war on Trump with their 93% negative coverage of him, not to mention all the false claims they ran with against him. I guess you feel he should stand there like a punching bag and just take it without responding.

President Trump won’t attend White House correspondents’ dinner

Perhaps most famously, in 2011 President Barack Obama made fun of an audience member who had questioned his U.S. citizenship: Donald J. Trump.

Trump never recovered from this Obama White House Correspondents Dinner in 2011.

Snowflake Trump can't use his Oval Office bully pulpit on Jim Acosta here. Commander BoneSpurs knows when to retreat. "Runaway" Donnie.

However, there won't even be a comedic host this year. Instead, the Correspondents Association invited presidential historian Ron Chernow to speak.

Why should he go?

why is the press attending? cancel it. same thing for WH press conferences. don't cover it, and let him lie to fox.

If you're absolutely insistent on getting news that spins Trump's horrifying behavior and actions into something noble, then watch Fox News. That's what they're there for. No matter how many lies he tells, Fox will always be there to remind you that the jobs number was good last month.

Do progressives have an ethical responsibility to give him fair coverage? Does not liking him give them a license to try to pursue everyone to not like him too?

Good. Why should he. He didn't last year either. They are all fake news vermin. I would not go either. He will probably do what he did last year, put on a YUGE event that people are more interested in.

Hard to believe anyone would pass up an opportunity to be mocked by a bunch of self righteous condescending blowhards all assembled in a self-congratulatory display of narcissistic jubilee.

Trump would rather have one of his hate rallies where he lies and ridicules people. That’s his idea of fun.

They have an ethical responsibility to cover the news, and things that the President says and does. It's not their obligation to go out and find something positive just to balance out something horrible that he said or did.

So if Trump makes the news by punching a black baby, it's not the Washington Post's ethical obligation to point out all the babies he hasn't punched.

That's not what I asked you. I asked if they have an ethical obligation to give him fair coverage.

Their ethical obligation is to cover the news honestly, and to follow journalistic guidelines that minimize dishonesty, bias or even simple errors.

Commander Thin Skin and his whiny Deplorables cannot handle criticism. This we know.

Many of us are disappointed that President Trump does not attend that dinner.

That dinner is one of the best things about C-SPAN.

It is great fun watching speakers gently poke fun at the incumbent president. E.g., a comedian joked about President Obama's predominately Caucasian cabinet.

As a Trump supporter, I have to admit that Mr. Trump does not seem to have a sense of humor.

If he did, it would greatly disarm his critics and help him to gain more supporters who respect someone who can take it as well as give it.

Trump the bigot, fraud misogynist bully can't handle people making jokes about him.

I am so happy that he is a Republican.

And yet they dont. They run with unsubstantiated claims and stories that lack multiple sourcing. Anything they can find to make Trump look bad they run with and anything that puts him in a positive light they hold back as much as they can.

Trump did not wage war on the press, they waged war on him.

Since Trump was inaugurated, you can count the number of stories that the New York Times and the Washington Post got wrong on the fingers of one hand.

I don't buy that at all but rather than get into a pointless argument about what they did and did not get wrong let's just assume your statement is true. In the case of the nyt and the wapo they are both the beacons of accuracy that your portraying them as. It does not change what I said, which is that the media has waged war on Trump from the very beginning. The media has taken it upon themselves to convince us to not like Trump. That's not objective reporting. It's advocating a position. Claiming Trump deserves negative press is a rationalization to justify the media behaving like activists while pretending to be nonpartisan objective reporters of the news.

If you're taking my statement as true then they're not "waging war" on him; they're doing accurate reporting. So to extrapolate from your own logic, accurate reporting is the same thing in your mind as "waging war" even if the things he says or does are legitimately bad.

As I said, if you want only positive sounding reporting, go to Fox News. They'll be happy to tell you that Trump is great because he hasn't gotten us into a nuclear war yet.

I did not challenge the accuracy of your claim because it's contextually insignificant to the larger point. Claiming something is good or bad is a subjective determination and an indulgence that the press is suppose to not partake in with the exception of on the editorial page.
