President Trump won’t attend White House correspondents’ dinner

Perhaps most famously, in 2011 President Barack Obama made fun of an audience member who had questioned his U.S. citizenship: Donald J. Trump.

Trump never recovered from this Obama White House Correspondents Dinner in 2011.

President Trump won’t be breaking bread with the media anytime soon — yet again, he’s declined the invitation to attend the White House Correspondents’ Association’s annual black-tie dinner later this month. This time, his RSVP didn’t arrive on presidential stationery; rather it was barked, with a few insults thrown in for good measure: The dinner is “boring,” he told reporters as he prepared to board Marine One on the White House lawn on Friday morning, and “negative.” Trump is the only president to skip the dinner since Ronald Reagan, who was recovering from an assassination attempt at the time.

Snowflake Trump can't use his Oval Office bully pulpit on Jim Acosta here. Commander BoneSpurs knows when to retreat. "Runaway" Donnie.

However, there won't even be a comedic host this year. Instead, the Correspondents Association invited presidential historian Ron Chernow to speak.

F Trump. They’ll have a much better night without him.

Did anyone tell him Fox will be there? He loves anybody on Fox.

Hard to believe anyone would pass up an opportunity to be mocked by a bunch of self righteous condescending blowhards all assembled in a self-congratulatory display of narcissistic jubilee.

As funny as that was at the time, I have to admit, that particular audience member got the last laugh.

Especially someone as thin skinned as Donnie, amirite?

Jim Accost-you will simply have to play with himself. Damn shame.

Just imagine the gall Obama had to experience as Trump arrived at the WH as president-elect. Talk about having the last laugh, especially since Obama's DOJ was knee deep in the effort to wreck the Trump campaign. Karma is a bee-atch.

The White House Correspondence Dinner was traditionally an opportunity for the President to acknowledge the importance of the media and its place in making democracy possible, as well as to showcase his sense of humor and an ability to take ribbing. Pomp and circumstances aside, it displayed that the President isn't a king.

In light of the above, it makes little sense for the current President to attend the WHCD as he has no observable respect for democracy, has said that the press is the enemy of the people, has no sense of humor and cannot take being the butt of jokes.

Has Trump ever laughed?

I am sure he has...but I can't recall of an instance. He smiles and makes jokes, but you are right, he never really laughs.

Always an excuse for being a jackass. This reminds me of using his bunion as an excuse to dodge the Vietnam war, then claiming McCain was not a war hero. The Dems need to find someone who can mock Don like Obama could do so well.

Don can dish it out, but the orange coward can't take it...

It's more of a smirk than a smile. The smirk communicates victory or satisfaction at his enemy's pain, but a smile communicates happiness, and I don't think he feels happiness in the traditional sense.

Many closest to Trump say revenge is his greatest driver. Can't say I disagree.

I dunno. New York Magazine did a story on Trump when he was evicting a bunch of people from their homes and he called to thank them for the coverage.

Although, to be fair, he probably felt it conveyed him as tough and strong. That probably ain't happening at the correspondence dinner.

Its probably his most socially redeeming quality. That's saying a lot.

He smiles when you stub your toe.

Only arrogant, hypocritical elitists are welcome....I wonder if they'll be singing the praises of Venezuela and Cuba, as in years past? Or will they just be having a Liespeak Circle Jerk about illegal aliens, "racism" and their failure to acknowledge their own anti-Semitisim?

Yes, we have to imagine Trump would like to be with his kind of folks.

Would you lend an event, that was hostile toward you and loaded with thinly veiled attacks on you, the prestige of your office by attending?

Since he's not attended since being president, not really news.

Yup much like the DNC being too cowardly to allow fox to host any of their debates, but I'm sure you will have a reason why that's different and OK with you.

Trumps a coward but the Democrat nominees are what?

He probably will be. Knowing Trump he will throw a campaign rally the same night as the dinner.
