Pocahontas

I agree with you that she is doing what a lot of Americans do, and say things many Americans say. It's very common for white Americans to claim Native American ancestry. There has been numerous people posting how they are more native and look more native than her, and chances are, they haven't had their blood tested.

White Americans say things like they tan well and have high cheek bones, because of their native ancestry.

I find her sentiment to very common, and I can't help but think that a lot people are just as guilty as she is.
I too, have talked about my ancestry to friends and family and have done a lot of genealogical research on both sides,(though there is no Native American that I am aware of) but no employer of mine has had any reason to know, much less use my ancestry for any purpose. It had to have been done with her permission, so there had to have been a purpose.

I like
Full of Bull and Running Joke

well even if she was truthful it won't help her-because if racial quotas is the reason someone votes -then Senator Harris of California is your pick since she fills a half dozen different ethnic quota slots

lol you only give two cents because it's Elizabeth Warren... I doubt you would have that same compassion, understanding, giving the benefit of the doubt if we were talking about someone who wasn't progressive.

but hey..... maybe your Mother Theresa Idk

I can't speak for her, but I know people who also make the same claims as Warren. I am not angry at them. I don't really relate to your behavior on this issue.

I didn't say anything about her using it to get a job, did I?

How would Harvard know about such a thing, unless she advised them of it? What were Harvard's failings?

They knew about it because it was in a networking directory. Not because she advised them of it. Harvard's failings included being still so nondiverse in the 1990's that they latched onto Warren as a token minority when they found out about her entry in the 1990's equivlalent of Linked In.

Warrens response
I have taken a DNA test that says I have a very small percentage of Native American blood in me. I do not perceive to know the reasons why my mother and family stated to have more Native American blood then what is indicated. But it has also been noted that being Native American is more then the blood you have in you, it is a heritage, it is a community, a practice, a way of life. I am glad that through these false hoods in which I was raised gave me the ability to become closer to the Native American community, to understand their heritage better, and to increase my knowledge about the harm that has been done to them and the values they hold dear to their hearts. I will continue to try and be closer the people in Native American communities and will continue to try and bring there voices into public life so that this nation can hopefully gain a better understanding and be fairer to these people. I was wrong in claiming their ethnic status at my time at Harvard. Trump has criticized me and ridiculed me over this in the most disrespectful ways. Often times calling me names like a bully, slenderizing me and using racially inappropriate terms and derogatory words. This is not what we as a nation should succumb to. Belittling the office of the presidency to become such shameful version of a tv show. We are better then this, the president needs to be better then this. I have owned up to my faults and misdeeds and set the record strait, I implore you to do the same and stand up to make our nation better then this.
No that wasn't her response that was mine. Such a missed opportunity for her. I hate her views and direction that she takes on most issues, so i'll just sit back and point and laugh at her.

What's my behavior? O_o

I think Trump's joke is funny.... that's it. And Warren used her fake minority status for Harvard. I would be more "compassionate and understanding" of her own family possibly lying to her if it were not for the obvious hypocrisy of Warren dipping herself in identity politics any chance she gets.... she's getting a little taste of what Identity politics brings you xD

Justice.

Yes, well, that is a separate issue. Native Americans seem very familiar with white Americans claims of heritage. For example, the most common claim is a Cheeeoke Princess ancestor. If you Google it, you will see the wide spread ignorance Americans have about native ancestry. It's far from being a personal failure of Warren's. And though she does claim Cheeeoke, I don't think she has made the princess claim.

So why would she post something like that in a network directory? Again, it had to have been with her permission.

So Harvard has been considered to 'fail' some arbitrary diversity quota. You do realize how thin some of this sounds, right?

She has some native ancestry, and even if she didn't, in no way is it appropriate to call her Pocahontas.

No hats are due. You're applauding Trump for continuing to be a horrible person.

We should respect liars? We shouldn't want them to stop lying?

Exactly.

I just said in another thread Trump acts no better than a first grader but I retract that and say no better than a preschooler. Even children at that age are taught to treat their classmates better.

What's worse? Lying about your ancestry, or insulting a liar over their lies? It's utterly duplicitous to give Warren a pass because she lied but then to criticize Trump for calling her out.

I mean what I said. There are a lot of people who look just as white as Warren, claiming they are Native American, Cheeeoke, or whatever, and because of the exact same reason Warren does. It's just that this country is so hyper partisan that most people aren't going to stop and realize Warrens behavior is actually common in their own community and family.

There has been that thing with little girls and the Indian Princess thing, but I don't believe it is applicable to Warren, as she is a grown adult with some experience, and hopefully reality, behind her.

Harvard could not have promoted the idea that she was Native American without her permission, so somewhere along the way, she gave her minimum of tacit approval to do so.

Just to be clear, the tests 'proved' that she had someone in her ancestry, 6-10 generations back, who originated from Mexico or Peru.

So 1 out of 1024 of her ancestors MAY have been Amerindian, and that qualifies her?

You hear that boys? We're all Native American!

B.S.

It's wrong. Period.

Lying is wrong. Period. Elizabeth Warren is a liar. She needs to stop lying. Why won't you criticize her?

He can call her out without sounding like a childish brat, no?

Or do you also engage in childish name calling?

I admit I do here but then again I'm not the President or representing America but if I was in any capacity, that kind of behavior would not be on display.

It's obvious she did it, because she thought it was true. It's that simple. Her ancestry does include some actual ancestry as she was told, but it may not be as much as she thought.

The mythos of a Native American ancestor is very very common in certain parts of America... Like almost all white people are claiming some form of ancestry in certain areas. In all reality, they all probably have less ancestry than they have convinced themselves

As an Oklahoman who thought she had native heritage, she thought it would be okay to check that box in the directory. It wasn't the first thing she did in connection with what she thought were her roots. To the best of my knowledge, it was not a Harvard-affilitated directory. She did not inform Harvard directly. She checked the box, but then they tried to get minority-hire credit for their nondiverse staff. Yes ... the liberal institution Harvard was trying to look more diverse than they were. They had many practices which reinforced their predominantly white male faculty and they were trying to shake that image by taking unearned credit.

By that token of being a compulsive liar, so is Trump.

They are both a couple of liars but at least one can talk and act decently in public.

Yes, but she has already explained why she made that claim. Her family told her so. DNA testing is new. She is probably the first in her family to take it, and it confirmed some of her family lore.

I'm still waiting for you to have even a drop of criticism of Warren. You're more upset that Trump is calling her out for being a liar.

And you don't hold back on your criticism of Trump whenever he lies. Why are Trump's lies bad but Warren's lies get a pass?

So, Trump continues to mock a white person who is dubiously pretending to be Native American. Sheer brilliance. Meanwhile, Liz rolls around in the dog pile she stepped in.
Hats off where it is due. Trump kicked Liz's ass on this one. Time to move on, Lady Warren. Time to move on.

Good post.
