Pelosi: House will move to transmit impeachment articles next week

Unfortunately, no. I didn't have Showtime. But I do catch the old runs from time to time. It depicts a totally dysfunctional Canaryville family (~ 43rd & Halsted - Eddie Burke's old 14th ward directly south of Bridgeport).

It's really fun to tease my wife Karen, who hails from somewhere around Chicagoland, although not the Gallagher neighborhood.
But she knows that area anyway.

Usually the only ones reasonably familiar with the Southside are Southsiders. It's just too daunting for most Northsiders and suburbanites. And especially in places like Canaryville, where outsiders won't feel comfortable in the bars because they'll know they're unwanted. Many of the bars are 'members only' or private clubs anyway, that also double as after hours clubs.

It's just the lay of the land of some neighborhoods that are blue-collar Caucasian that boarder up against Black or Mexican neighborhoods, which Canaryville does on three sides. The xenophobia is even more predominate in neighborhoods that are ethnic Caucasian, which again is Canaryville (Irish).

And the above is especially true if the neighborhood is political (Canaryville again), since politics in Chi-town is often dirty, dark, secretive, and infused with criminal element. Their alderman just got indicted by the feds! Which means quite a few of them will likely catch a case, too.

So Canaryville is the quintessential "closed" ethnic neighborhood, even if most have been living there now for 3 or 4 generations. Many live in the same multi-general houses & two-flats their parents & grandparents grew-up in, and when those houses do sell they often are sold to family or friends by word of mouth. And many there, a great many, are on the city or county payrolls.

"Billionaire Tom Steyer's long-shot candidacy for the Democratic nomination received a boost this week when a Fox News poll indicated he has surged to second place in South Carolina."
Why Tom Steyer suddenly looks competitive in South Carolina - CBS News

Dems are in a wicked pickle.
They're desperate to find someone who isn't Biden or a whackdoodle socialist.
Ain't anyone like that running right now.

Strange you mentioned Steyer, that's who I've been backing for the Democratic nomination. Of course I started off backing Jim Webb in 2016, then when it became apparent he wasn't going to campaign, I switched to John Kasich. Neither came close to winning their party's nomination. Me backing Steyer probably isn't good news for him with my track record.

Trump's base will automatically be Pense's base...and then some. All the people who would be pissed that Trump was removed.

Nancy knows this. She won't risk it.

Certainly a possibility, but Trump's base is all he'd gain. Gerald Ford lost to Carter, and that was two years after Nixon resigned. Granted, the public was upset at Ford pardoning Nixon, but the smell of corruption would hang on Pence at least through November. I don't think the general public would stomach a Pence candidacy.

I don't think Nancy is inclined to take that risk.

Heck, if she really did want to give Trump the heave ho, she very well could have engineered it. Instead, everything she's done has been directed toward getting dirt.

Crazy as it sounds, after today's announcement by Bloomberg concerning throwing his campaign apparatus to the winning nominee, I'm starting to warm-up to the idea of him.

I don't really have much disagreement here. Either scenario could be true. We'll see if and when she opens further investigations

What we can look forward to is McConnell reversing course on following the Clinton impeachment rules as soon as the Senate trial begins.

Is there an emoji which shows one with their thumb on their nose and their fingers wiggling?

What a long hard fall it's been for Nancy Pelosi. Once a powerhouse Democrat leader and a master tactical politician, she's been reduced to clown status by giving in to the AOC wing of the Progressive Left. I'm sure some will continue to believe in her but she's failed so miserably in recent months, she's spent the majority of her political capital and won't really be taken seriously anymore.

Look for calls by Progressive Democrats to replace her after the 2020 elections as she'll be the scapegoat.

Like I said, I've been out here since '78, but I remember the segregation. What's unusual perhaps, is this segregation is (was) self induced and generally respected. My girlfriend's mother owned a bar on a major artery (Roosevelt Rd?) that bordered Maywood, which was black. Don't remember the city the bar was in Maybe Berwyn. Anyway, looking out the bar windows, pedestrians on the Maywood side were virtually all black, while on the bar side they were white. I grew up thinking this was the normal way of things

Instead of acting like a jerk why don't you try to put forward a logical argument as to why you think the witnesses who can provide first-hand testimony of what transpired, witnesses who have been blocked by Trump, should not be allowed to testify during the Senate trial?

because the Democrats failed to make their case and the existing evidence is sufficient. I know authoritarians love their kangaroo courts, but we shouldn't normalize Democrats bent on using bogus legal proceedings to hamstring the president. They are just seeking perjury traps.

we should treat such an utterly bull**** impeachment with any respect. The Democrats sure as hell didn't.

We'll see how long your demand for process and all witnesses with first hand knowledge holds out if the Republicans call Adam Schiff and the whistleblower to testify...

Because here is the fine point on what this "trial" will look like: Is it impeachable to "obstruct congress"? No... that's gone. Did the President abuse his power in a phone call with Ukrainian President? No. Did Congress approve an extension on paying out the money for Ukraine, thereby authorizing the delay? Yes. That claim is gone.

So the Democrats got nothing. No witnesses necessary. All you need is sanity, and the congressional vote to extend the payout window of Ukrainian funding.

Democrats can eat some ****.

She should sit on them until turtle boy capitulates on the witness issue.

No way the senate trial goes on without witnesses. That's just a pipe dream mitch had, it went up in smoke.

Trump supporters might be happy with no witnesses but the rest of the country isn't. Let's see who gets their way?

Something else fun to consider is that Nancy might not have even capitulated, but instead her delay might very well have been intentionally timed to pull Bernie Sanders back to DC to interfere with his campaign in the lead up to the Iowa Caucus.

No. Did Congress approve an extension on paying out the money for Ukraine, thereby authorizing the delay? Yes. That claim is gone.

This is a lie.

Congress was forced to do this because of the delay Trump imposed on the disbursement of the aid. This does not in any way represent some sort of retroactive authorization of the delay.

Because of the delay caused by Trump's corrupt actions about $35 million of aid to Ukraine remained unspent prior to the end of the fiscal year. Congress passed a bill on Sept. 27 to make sure that the $35 million could still be spent.

Well, this is progress. This is something resembling a logical argument. Instead of just invective, it is both an argument and invective.

Baby steps I guess.

you have to realize that these people are not interested in facts.

i already gave him why they don't have to be called.
he refuses to accept facts and continue to push his leftist agenda.

we know that leftist have absolutely nothing to impeach trump on but they were going to do it regardless. at least there was a few honest democrats that knew this for the sham that it was.

Hah! I guess if Bloomberg wanted to cover the entire economic continuum, he could run Warren as his Veep! :2razz:

I get your point.
The thing is, there's a lot of Biden-type of campaigning in Bloomberg's campaign to get him/them through the primary. (Same for the Butt-man ... but without the Obama-like aura Butt is trying to bring to his campaign.)
They have to do some things that appeal to the Warren crowd ... while Warren herself doesn't seem to know who she is or what she wants her positions to be.

The idea is to not go so deeply whackdoodle in the primary that you can't crawl out of the hole in the general.
Bernie is the only one honest enough not to care.

I think it's asking too much of Steyer's money to expect it to work miracles for him so your record should be unaffected if you stay away from his candidacy.

I'll work for him. He comes the closest to my political beliefs of all the Democrats.

Pelosi: House will move to transmit impeachment articles next week | Fox News

Yesterday, she pronounced she'll send them over when she's "ready". Wonder what suddenly made Nancy ready? Sounds like pressure from those in her own party convinced her that she had better stop stalling, crap on the pot or get off!

Not to say I told you so, but....

She never had any intention of really holding these up. It was a combination PR stunt and a hail Mary to get some extra political mileage (that failed). Since the House and Senate had details to work on... and a holiday break... nothing was even delayed.

Yes - after her previous spectacular fail as speaker of the house, I was surprised she was given another shot. I think her time is coming to a close.

Trump didn't get a wall and was impeached.

Instead of discovering the truth, Republicans choose to grow the swamp. What a sad day for our country.

How is proceeding with a trial, NOT discovering the truth? Do you think that the house managers will fail to make their case?
