Sure they asked, but so what? Of course Soviets would rather have some help and lose less people. Who would not. It does not change the fact that D Day did not happen until mid 1944, when Soviets already had Germany on the run.
The Soviets asked for help because they couldn't beat the Nazis on their own and desperately needed a second front to take some of the pressure off. That's why they wanted the second front in the first place. Pretending that the only reason D-Day was launched was to keep the Soviets from winning n their own.
