This is it. Operation puppy pick up is in effect. I've driven four hours down to his location and we get him tomorrow morning. Ollie.

Congrat's Rob. I'm sure he'll make a fine addition to the family.
(Umm. Is he supposed to look sad? - I mean, is that the breed? - Picture #2)
Yup. Bassett hounds. Droopy eyes.
Cool. Enjoy! A new puppy in the house can be a boat load of fun. Watching them as they grow up and all.
Our Duncan is 8 now.
Pretty soon, we are going to have to start considering a name that starts with an 'E', and which breed. Retrievers are nice and friendly, but a Shepard would be cool too.
I'd suggest staying away from setters and dalmations. Unless you like dogs that take 8 years to outgrow that puppy phase of constant distraction and running.

I believe that both suffer from being overly popular and the related over breeding (in breeding).
For Retrievers that lasts about 1 year and no more (sometimes as short as 9 months).
We've had Shepards before and IIR, it's about the same for them.
Of course, I also have to find out what breed of dog my wife would be interested in.
I grew up with lab mutts. But I had loads of room to run. No fences, no leashes.

I've never had fences or leashes. Right now I have 2 acres for them to run around in, before this I had 16 acres. They go out and run all the time.
<*sigh*> a city lot of fair size, but fenced on.
On the other hand, we go 'Up North' to the cottage quite a few times, and Duncan loves it up there, as we all do. Large property partially fenced, and a beech as well (water dogs and all).
Aaawwww... So cute!
All new surrounding. Unsure of himself. First time away from mom, and litter mates. That's an awful lot all at once. Give him a week.He sleeps A LOT thank God but man is he needy as hell when he wakes up. More than any puppy I've ever had.

He was with 11 other dogs and a helicopter-mom/lady that was always at home with them. The litter was 8 puppies and the lady had 4 grown bassets as well.
He's been removed from his pack, the only pack that he's known since birth, and now will be forming a pack bond with your family.
Patience. I'm sure it'll all turn out well.
