Operation Entrapment

This was my favorite part (in bold):

According to the New York Times, Cromitie had told an FBI informant that he wanted to "do something to America" in response to the war. The complaint filed against the men alleges that Cromitie stated "the best target"--the World Trade Center--"was hit already." The men allegedly chose the two synagogues as targets instead, and the FBI informant helped them get what they believed to be explosive devices, but which were incapable of being fired or detonated.

Well, lessee, damn Al Qaeda took the limelight for hitting the World Trade Center. So could they blow up instead, oh I don't know, The Statue of Liberty? The Empire State Building? Brooklyn Bridge, The Lincoln or Holland Tunnel?

Yaaawwwnnville! A couple synagogues it is!

Actually no, the timeline begins under the Bush "watch".

Of course.

I'm sure this will still be the mantra next year, and the year after. Apparently, the Agent of Change is not very effective at . . . change.

WE'VE HEARD this story before.

A group of men, disaffected, with petty criminal records and/or mental health issues, in need of money and harboring a real or imagined grudge, are approached by an FBI informant. Later, they're arrested for plotting a major "terrorist attack" on U.S. soil. Politicians and prosecutors praise the diligent work of the FBI in standing between us and another attack like the one on 9/11.

That's the story, manufactured for the evening news, complete with footage of arrestees led away by agents. But poke beneath the surface, and you find it's full of holes.

That was true once again, with the arrest on May 20 of four men accused of plotting to bomb two synagogues in the Bronx and shoot down military planes using Stinger missiles at an Air National Guard base in Newburgh, N.Y.

"It's hard to envision a more chilling plot," Assistant U.S. Attorney Eric Snyder said in federal court, claiming that the arrests ended a nearly year-long "painstaking investigation."

Initial press reports suggested the men--James Cromitie, David Williams, Onta Williams and Laguerre Payen--were Muslims who wanted to kill Jews and take revenge on the U.S. for the war in Afghanistan. One law enforcement official mistakenly told the New York Times that the men were Arabs.

In reality, none are Arab--one is Haitian and three are U.S.-born. It's unclear whether the men were practicing Muslims. And their motives for allegedly planting what they believed to be explosive devices also remain unknown.

BUT LIKE many other spectacular arrests in "war on terror" cases, the charges against these four men look thin, if not entirely manufactured.

FULL STORY

I don't get the point you or the story is making. So the FBI gets wind of some yahoos who want to blow stuff up. The FBI hangs out with them undercover to see how serious they are. You've got a problem because you think the FBI should stop monitoring retards who want to blow stuff up?

Do you know what Entrapment is?

Pointing out partisan-based hypocricy isnt trolling... except to those being exposed as hypcocrites.

The 'debate' can tale many forms, including addressing the credibility of those in that debate.

Then you need to ****ing man up and actually identify the guilty parties by name and substantiate. Otherwise your being a little troll.

The men in both cases had the desire to kill people and destroy people. They may have lacked the means, but that didn't stop them from trying to get them. Had that informant not been an informant and actually gotten these men real weapon we would have lot of bombed out buildings and dead Jews.

There was no entrapment here because these men were already predisposed to commit a violent crime. All the FBI did was test their resolve and give them they opportunity to make an overt act to carry it out. Which they did all on their own. Any of those men could have stopped at any time. But they didn't.
And their motives for allegedly planting what they believed to be explosive devices also remain unknown.
Oh horse ****! Their motives for planting what they believed to be explosive devices was to kill people and destroy property. Why the hell else would you do that?

Of course.

Yeah

It was all good under Clinton. Nothing bad.
All of the bad started with Bush, and all the following bad after his departure are simply repercussions due to his ineptitude!

Didn't you know that?

Entrapment is when law enforcement or their agents (like an informant) persuade a person to commit crime they had no previous intention of committing.

This is clearly not the situation in this case. From what information is available I'm thankful the feds were successful here. They have very probably saved many lives.

Job well done if you ask me.
