One Month Left in Office, and President Obama goes on a 2 week vacation in Hawaii

It was people with your mindset (on both sides of the political coin)that actually created Trump's success. You were late to catch onto a populist movement going on not only in the USA, but all over Western Europe as well. People have finally decided that they have had enough of establishment politicians(both liberal and conservative) taking their marching orders from big donors while simply giving lip service to the rank and file citizens who sent them to Washington DC in the first place. You learned nothing from Brexit. I suspect that you and your party will eventually figure it out. Early signs are that the establishment republicans have seen the light.

Well, the republicans now safely maintain control of the White House(as of January 20, the Senate, the House of Reps, the majority of state legislative bodies, the most state governors, and coming soon.....a strong origionalist majority on the US Supreme Court. Trump will also get to pick about 100 federal judges. and two years from now, the Democrats will have 25 Senate seats up for grabs. I can safely say that the so called republican bubble is a safe reality.

This thread isn't about Trump, but if you'd like to go to the thread about the costs related to Trump setting up shop in NYC, you'll see my rant about those self indulgent costs to the American taxpayer. Satisfied? Or are you really only concerned about protecting Obama from fair criticism?

Actually complacency is the least of the of the problems for democrats. Narcissism and denial are their biggest problems. They have become such elitists that they ignore and insult a large segment of their own base and no longer attempt to hide it. That's why their blue firewall in the 2016 election came crashing down. As for the republicans, judging from early signs, they appear to have gotten the message. However, time will tell.

You ignored the entirety of my post except for a joke. Congress is out of session and it's the holiday season. A lot of people go on vacation and there is nothing Obama can do at this point besides an executive order that would promptly be undone within a month. Otherwise, I wouldn't be opposed to a bill that requires Presidents to have a percentage of their vacation costs taken out of their pension. I don't think your criticism is unfair, but it does ignore the point that congress is not in session.

Congress being in session or not in session is irrelevant to the issue. President Obama is not a member of Congress, and hasn't been since 2008. The issue is the gross indifference to the average taxpaying American when a President spends between $8 and $10 million dollars to fete himself in Hawaii a couple of weeks before he walks out the door. If he wanted to take a couple of weeks off to go back to Chicago - terrific - no big deal. Better yet, do like the Bush Presidents and spend Christmas in Camp David - the taxpayers did pay for that little get-away so that Presidents could have a peaceful retreat away from Washington. But hey, no golf in the north east US this time of year so why not ding the American taxpayer for multi-millions to give one final expression of your self important ignorance.

George W Bush has taken much more vacation time than Obama.

Last December, CBS News reported that the number of vacation days President Obama has taken since the beginning of his presidency stood at 161 days. If you add the 28 days of vacation he has taken this year his total comes to 189 days. If you add his current vacation in Martha’s Vineyard to the mix that still puts him at under 200 days so far. Even if he took every day off the rest of his term in office that would only add an additional 153 days to his total – still placing him at less than half the vacation days of he predecessor.

However his predecessor, two-term President George W. Bush, took 879 days of vacation, including 77 trips to his Texas ranch according to a report by The Washington Post.

According to The Washington Post, “No modern president took less vacation than Jimmy Carter (79 days), while Ronald Reagan spent 335 days at his beloved California ranch.”
