And all of that is right. You freeze it until the Palestinians demonstrate they are truly committed to peace, because you have made a concession and a gesture that is so transparently positive that unless the Palestinians reciprocate there is no way Israel will be forced into a deal with a completely intransigent PLO.
What don't you understand about................... " Effectively, this whole package called the Palestinian state, with all that it entails, has been removed
indefinitely from our agenda." ?
Let's go a little further with Dov shall we ?
"The disengagement is actually formaldehyde," he said. "It supplies the amount of formaldehyde that is necessary so there will not be a political process with the Palestinians."
Where's the " until such times that they accept Israel , or " renounce violence " etc etc................... it's a glaring omission imo
Let's go further still eh ? ( can't quote any more , fair usage etc )
Look at the list of reasons he gives for the decision.................... where does it even come close to suggesting the decision was an olive branch to see how the Palestinians would react ? Go and read it and tell me where any notion of that becomes apparent or even detectable in his words.
In fact the only vague reference to anything to do with making peace with the Palestinians runs completely counter to your perception. That is with regards to the " Geneva Initiative " enjoying " broad support " and that being something bad by all accounts or certainly in his view. The possibility of a fair deal with the Palestinians enjoying " broad support " Dov ? , **** that !
You can spin all you like but those words tell a very very different tale to the one that enjoys much support here based on the magnificence of the Israeli jesture
Think too that it released thousands of IDF troops from having to protect a few thousand illegal settlers................ recall Dov's comments on the IDF troops refusing to serve ?
Remember that many went from illegal settler status in problematic Gaza to illegal settler status in the the much more coveted West Bank
And of course we had the heart wrenching scenes of Jew evicting Jew from their homes ( read illegal homes in someone elses country ) in a national trauma drama for the whole world to see. Almost brought a tear to my eye
He was wrong about that, of course, since the Palestinians and their supporters are just in the concession banking game and never bent on their destructionist objectives one iota yet the international community gave Israel no credit for any shows of goodwill or provided any consequences for Palestinian intransigence, but his statement has been ripped out of context for a decade now by anti-Israel propagandists (see your post, for example) so figured might as well pipe back into the explanation which has been provided for this statement for a decade now (incidentally a decade where the folks in gaza could have had no Israeli presence, not attacks, no blockade etc were it not for the Palestinians' rejectionist terrorist machine).
The context is there for all to see and it has no merit as being an olive branch situation. Sorry
