Oklahoma threatened a trans wrester who is part of AEW.

At this point, the correct procedure is to pull all wrestling events, concerts, movie shoots, TV shoots, and professional sports events from Oklahoma.

Oklahoma will lose money until it apologizes and removes all staff members from the commission.

What is with the Genital Obsessed Party these days??

Does the AEW call itself a sport? If so, then it's regulatable under the OK Athletic Commission.

If it admits it's not a sport and all the matches are staged, then it wouldn't need regulating anymore.

Oklahoma knows wrestling's fake, right? I wouldn't be surprised if this detail got by them.

Nobody ever gets a bruise. All winners are decided ahead of time. It's not like a trans wrestler would have an advantage.

Government has no business dictating to any sporting federation what rules it should apply to "athletes" (or performers in the case of wrestling) UNLESS the federation is discriminating against a protected class of people. That is, government can intervene to protect individuals against the code body, but not to require discrimination AGAINST individuals.

I'm not saying government should intervene in either case. The argument against affirmative action (that helping individuals always disadvantages other individuals) is generally bogus, but I think it does apply to trans-women who want to compete in a women's league instead of a men's league. But the other side of that argument is that trans-men can't be allowed to compete in either league, since consumption of testosterone is widely banned in sport. Maybe not in wrestling ...

Perhaps the solution is to define dress and mannerisms as acceptable in all cases, body-altering surgery banned only when it's judged to enhance performance (so silicon implants would be allowed), and consumption of either class of sex hormones banned in men's, women's and mixed sex sports. Concentrate on physical enhancements which can be measured, and keep the culture war nonsense out of sport.

Why do we need a state athletic commission? Why can't each code's national body (or even international body) define an envelope of rules each state body must remain within, and let the state body fill in the detail? Specifically, the national body could ban trans-people from competing as their 'new' gender, and it would be binding on state bodies because they don't want their athletes excluded from national competitions. Or they could equally validly leave that rule up to each state body.

Why does a government body have to be involved at all? This is another example of how the right wing has completely turned its back on "small government" and is now the authoritarian party. So now we've got two authoritarian parties (Democrats are authoritarian on economics, Republicans are authoritarian on social issues) and no viable choice otherwise.

Exactly.

You mention kids genitals far more than Republicans do.

We'd gladly shut up about them, if the Republicans would stop trying to infringe on the right of parents and their children to get gender-affirming health care. They're the aggressors when it comes to what's in a child's pants.

It's particularly hurtful when children are involved. Children's "rights" are never going to be a simple matter. But Republicans also go after trans adults. With some justification perhaps in the field of sport (though notice how they apply a sexist double standard, as though no trans-man could ever be competitive in men's sport.) What's really offensive is that they would deny trans people the public bathroom of their choice, leaving it to bigots to enforce unwritten rules about outwardly "wrong" gender using the other bathroom. Frankly trans people would be within their rights to shit right on the pavement.

transmen don't have a biological advantage over cis men, which is why nobody cares if transmen compete with cis men - it doesn't create a sporting unfairness.

There needs to be a middle ground between the conservative line that everyone should use toilets based on their sex at all times even if you're post op, and the liberal line that any male can walk into a female changing room and whack their dick out and any woman who doesn't like it is a transphobic crybaby snowflake.

All things considered, Oklahoma has made a choice and now it appears that All Elite Wrestling has a choice to make. Whatever the reasoning for this by Oklahoma, whatever our own positions in favor or being against what the state has done, where we are is companies doing business in the state have the responsibility to decide their response.

They have no policies that work so they just scream about other people's junk and God to fill that void.

They're so close, yet so far away, from getting it right.
