Officer who shot Philando Castile found not guilty[W:456]

Right, which is the point. If you think reality doesn't need to be taken into account, you're promoting the fantasy of LEO being able to shoot people based on absurdly lacking procedures.

The cop had no reason to fear for his own life if he'd have conducted himself more appropriately, it's his own fault. We'd have been better off if he'd just eaten donuts, he's a killer.

No Mach, and you are wrong. This is about this specific case, not some other made up nonsense.
The Officer conducted himself just fine.
You suggesting that the Officer has no reason to fear given the circumstances, is the fantasy here.

He didn't reach for his gun, and we don't know that he was high. In the end, he was convicted of driving while black.

Where was his gun?

In his pocket. At least that's where they found it on his body.

So he tells the officer that he has a gun. And then what happened?

Yes, he was a responsible, law abiding gun owner. The officer heard the word gun and freaked out.

So he said "I have a gun" and then the officer shot him immediately? Nothing else happened?

The whole encounter lasted only slightly more than a minute. I think 1:14. So it would have to have been pretty quick.

So now we know that isn't all that happened. Castile told the officer he had a gun and the officer shouted "Don't reach for it! Don't reach for it!" There had to have been a reason for the officer to be yelling this, right? Castile WAS reaching for something and the officer (fearing for his life) shot. THAT is why he was acquitted. It was a miscommunication that ended a man's life. Tragic.

Sounds like perhaps he shouldn't of told the idiot cop he had a gun. Apparently, the cop just couldn't take the fact that other people were armed. Poor guy is a *****.

I don't see how you can get that from that video. He said he had a gun, was reaching for his licence, and the cop shot 7 times. The cop clearly just murdered that man for no reason. Shameful. He should be behind bars for the rest of his life.

The dashcam video and transcript was released today showing that the officer was yelling at him to not reach for his gun.

Doesn't mean that he was reaching for the gun. The officer is clearly not stable.

No, that doesn't mean he was reaching for his gun. But when an officer is screaming orders at you, you put your hands on the wheel and comply. Yes, the officer freaked out -- yes, Castile shouldn't have reached for anything after hearing the officer scream.

We should only hire professionals for the cop gig, this guy failed and someone died. Thank god it was only a black guy.

Watch the video. It's about 30 seconds before he opens fire. "He didn't follow instructions" he had no chance to!

Notice how none of the 2A crowd are concerned that Castile was considered a threat simply because he had a legal firearm? Think about it for a second. Law abiding citizen, with a concealed carry permit is considered a threat for no reason. Yet the people who are usually all about gun rights are justifying that he was seen as a threat because he had a gun.

Sure, he had a chance to. When an officer is yelling at you to not reach for your weapon and you start reaching for something....... What was he supposed to think?

Having seen the dashcam video and heard the audio several things became clear.

From the time that he was informed of the presence of the gun until the time of Officer Yanez's first shot was about five seconds.

The officer clearly panicked. He fired seven shots in rapid succession into a car with bystanders.

The officer was not fully in control of his gun and by shifting about while firing he caused a dangerous dispersion of fire into a car with two bystanders.

It was the officer learning of the presence of the gun which caused the officer to panic and quickly panic-spiral to the point of firing his weapon. He should have moved slightly to his right (towards the rear of Castile's car), placing himself behind the seat-belted driver so if he had to shoot he could avoid any errant shots hitting other passengers' torsos while at the same time making himself less easily hit if targeted. He should then have paused and observed until he saw a gun rather than assuming that one was being drawn before firing.

He has been acquitted and that stands but he is clearly dangerous and should no longer be permitted to serve as an armed officer of the law.

Cheers.

From what I read, while aquitted, he will no longer be on the force.

We sure could have saved the expulsion of a lot of CO2 (and set back global warming a decade or two) by liberal lungs if the dashcam video had been made public sooner. Looks like a conspiracy to ensure a cop lynching.

You know, when a cop tells you not to move, don't ****ing move. I can see why a moron or someone who is stoned might not comply (in which case he's probably dead), but what I don't understand is why presumably intelligent, rational people can't comprehend this basic concept.

Officer who shot Philando Castile found not guilty

St. Paul, Minnesota (CNN)Jeronimo Yanez, the Minnesota police officer who fatally shot Philando Castile during a traffic stop last year, was found not guilty of second-degree manslaughter Friday.

He also was acquitted of two counts of intentional discharge of firearm that endangers safety.
Castile's death garnered widespread attention after his girlfriend broadcast the shooting's aftermath on Facebook Live.
Several members of the Castile family screamed profanities and cried after the verdicts were announced, despite warnings from the judge that everyone in the courtroom should remain composed.

This is good news.

Good News for Racist Folk would be a great name for your album.

What exactly did she do wrong?
No one said she did anything wrong, now did they?
As for her detainment? You need to walking yourself through the reasons why they would take her into custody as no one should have to spell it out for you.

The cop told him not to get his gun. He didn't. Still got shot 7 times.
