Ocasio-Cortez Now Says She Wants to "Tax Robots"

Ok explain to me how you square what she said which is we should working the keast amount weve ever worked with what you just said which is we have huge problems left to solve.

Those two concepts directly contradict one another.

LOL, she said we "should" be working the least we've ever worked... That nirvana isn't here. Heck, we can't reliably and sustainably deliver healthcare to the poor at this point, which she talks about.

I played from 1962-1974...got lotsa OLD SCHOOL DATA. Who would be your Final Five for the last shift of the 7th game for The Cup?

(Historic players allowed.) :)

Depends on the era. Much different era today. The guys are bigger and faster but the game, overall, is less physical. There is much less goon play but also too much cracking down on physical play for my taste. Of course, the refs do swallow the whistle much more in the playoffs which is why it's better hockey.

I am not so sure.

You would need a very exact and tailored definition of hard work.

Generally speaking there is little correlation between hard work and success other than that self adulation title that people bestow on themselves.

I worked way hardened working 60 hours a week "for the man" than when I had my own business and basically worked every minute I was awake.

The year I spent working the fields in the hot sun, literally crawling on the ground, up and down long rows, most would call the hardest job of their life and I was exempt from minimun wages, OT, holidays... everything.

So the definition is all important.

I my life, I have seen the hardest workers paid the least and the most successful have it the easiest.

So define it if you want.

I'm missing what point you're trying to make here as it relates to the topic, and you clipped 90% of my post and missed the point of it, so I'll quit here.

Re: Ocasio-Cortez Now Says She Wants to "Tax Robots"

Why should we be?

Because it takes less labor than ever before to create the goods necessary to live. That's the further promise of more automation, AI, robotics, to free humans from the tasks we must do now.

And of course you moved the goal posts on me....

Start your own business and learn how WRONG that <bolded> claim is.

I did.

I never considered it a work in spite of working every awake hour.

It's a horse**** line that makes one feel all warm and fuzzy.

read my posts again.

It's what Trumpism is all about. Making oneself feel good, jerking off.

Your party is certainly putting her out front, or at the least, is afraid to counter the media obsession with her. As she said, "I'm the boss." That is true; she is now the de-facto boss of the Dem party.

I see her engaging in her own self promotion. And that somehow someway messes wit the right wings mind.

If you were smart you would have understood I was responding to the part of your post I highlighted and spoke to.

That is the only part I cared to speak to. If you did not care to speak about it, why did you write it?

Your party is certainly putting her out front,.

BS

she is getting attention for the same reason Trump does, she says ridiculous and non traditional things. Stands out in a crowd. That is what gets attention. Weather that person be a dope or sage.

Dems are trying to shut her the **** up.

When Trump declares himself an expert in anything, you cheer him on "Yes master, nobody knows more about hockey than you!"

As usual, "Rocket," you got it exactly backwards.
Barack Obama was your Master. School children were taught to sing praise songs about him, just as Hitler Youth were taught to sing praises of that Social Democrat.

George Bush was turned out by Republicans after he broke his "read my lips, no new promises" pledge. We don't blindly follow Republicans. You Democrats do just that.
Bill Clinton was impeached, outed as a rapist, a serial sexual predator EVEN IN THE WHITE HOUSE! And you Leftists excused him as being "an alpha male" who was just doing "consensual things" with a subordinate, on the job.

Now you go ape**** over what Trump did BEFORE running for president, and none of it included rape, or exposing himself to a subordinate, or groping a widow whose husband recently died, as Kathleen Willey recounted.

Sickening how hypocritical Democrat sheep are, truly.

My wife thinks I'm smart, sometimes!!

Which wasn't your point, obviously, but "That is the only part I cared to speak to."

I am fine talking about your wife. Where did you met her?

I am a few days away from my 25th anniversary. We met on a subway platform in Manhattan. 6th ave line on 57th st.

I suppose that's true enough, but I'm not sure what point to draw from it. Sure, members of Congress are in my limited experience often dumb as rocks, but they ran for office, did the work necessary to get a nomination, etc. and got elected. Gates did in fact lead a company from nothing to one of the most valuable on planet earth. So in both cases there was some skill and lots of very hard work, obviously there's no comparison to winning a bright blue seat in NYC to building Microsoft, but she did run and win, which I haven't done.

And I don't believe in hero worship of the wealthy. Just because Gates was good at running Microsoft and appears very, very bright doesn't mean he's correct about taxing robots. But it's also illegitimate to dismiss the idea because it was Gates' idea, and he's just lucky. What no one has done that I've seen on this thread is actually address the idea on the merits or, much more difficult, lay out a vision for how the bottom half in aptitude are going to thrive in 30 years after AI and robotics are adopted in virtually all we do.

Overall I agree with this post, except the part about "hard work. So there is not much for me to say.

OK???????????

Are we friends now?

Start a thread if you want to talk about our spouses.

Bottom line is it's intellectually dishonest to clip 5 words out of context, omit the rest of the post and disregard the point I was trying to make, and address just those five words.

If the topic is the definition of 'hard work' then you know how to start a thread about it.

I'm not interested in assurances, you made a statement that can't be determined. There are no tax forms which demonstrate anyone's net worth, none, zip, zilch. Why make stuff up, when it really isn't necessary given the topic of Trump?

First, calm the **** down.

It is necessary given the top of Trump. Trump's tax returns should provide enough information to determine whether or not he is a billionaire. For someone like Trump, heavily involved in real estate, it would be next to impossible to determine an exact net worth. As I have stated before it is my opinion that Trump is worth a lot less than he claims. If so, he tax return should reflect the difference between what he says and what his taxes indicate.

I'm quite calm, you've still got bupkis and will even should Trump's returns be released. Could you tell his net worth when they were released on the Maddow program? No, you couldn't--they're tax returns, tax returns don't contain a listing of assets.

Here is a hint, you won't be able to validate his blood type, nor color with his tax returns.

Why do you continue to believe that you will see something that isn't there?

Just because there are forms and Schedule's you've never used, doesn't mean you couldn't be aware of what they contain.

I moved nothing. You are the one trying to parse her words.

Yes automation has increased mankind's overall productivity but we are not in a place that we do not need to continue to work to solve the problem of extinction. That problem still exists and needs everyone to help solve it. Not to mention our immediate survival also requires our efforts. AOC does not seem to understand this and thinks we can sit back and relax and automation will take care of all our needs.

None of the DP Left apparently understand taxes...remember the foamy-mouthed frenzy over "smaller returns"?

To say we "should be" working less than ever before is not to say we ARE doing that.

But she said none of that. You invented it, and attributed to AOC beliefs she doesn't hold. Just for example, saying we "should be" working the least we've ever worked is simply NOT to say, "No one needs to work at all, ever, anymore."

The message she is conveying is that there is less of a need for us to work.

I like her more and more every single day! I seriously can't get enough of her quotes and such (honestly her voice grates a bit on me, so I like the quotes and posts better).

Let her speak out!

And for the kidding part of this post: I think we should seriously consider the unfair advantage these robots are born with. They don't need to eat, sleep, or be paid beyond a modicum of maintenance! We need to balance this unjust part of society. I think we should tax their individual income at 90%. What do they need beyond some oil and a little electricity?!
The kind of female voice that right wingers find grating is the kind all women who speak up have

Re: Ocasio-Cortez Now Says She Wants to "Tax Robots"

OK, but that's different than what you WERE claiming she said, which is we've solved all our problems and we can all just sit around and let robots do everything.

But yes, she did claim this, and it should be true, actually, given productivity improvements. The economy might work better if it was true - where the average work week was 32 hours and not 40. There is some anecdotal evidence companies are having great success with shorter work weeks - better job satisfaction, retention, productivity, etc. That's the promise of increased productivity - either we work less for the same standard of living, or work the same and see our living standards go up. That worked for a long time but kind of broke down for the bottom half or so (at least - perhaps the bottom 80%) in the past few decades - they're working as hard or harder than ever, and seeing living standards stagnate or even decline, and stability has definitely declined.

Point is you can disagree with her, but it does no good to put words in her mouth she didn't say to dismiss the argument she did make.
