In 2015, Bill Gates warned about a pandemic. He also warned that the U.S. was more prepared for a nuclear war than a war against a virus.

"we need to get going, because time is not on our side" Nobody listened because they didn't want to spend the money.

And scientists have been warning the same thing as well. That's where BillG gets it. He's not a scientist...he is extremely smart and has access (thru the Gates Foundation) to the best and most complete data.

This is the barely coherent and grammatically inept speech of a man who desperately wants to be able to claim that he "cured coronavirus."

That's it, in a nutshell. When we do get a handle on this crisis, he wants to be able to pull out footage and declare "I called it! I said use this! I said try this! I told them to do this, it was my idea!" He's just doing it with lots of stupid stuff because he doesnt want to miss an opportunity. He's afraid 'the big one' will be mentioned and he wont get credit for it.

It's all about declaring himself the savior of the cv crisis and we'll hear all about it, esp in his campaign. (Which is basically each of his press briefings these days) --- Lursa

Somebody listened. We had a pandemic response plan, a pandemic response team, a pandemic liaison in Wuhan and a pandemic training program. All put in place by Obama and all dismantled by Trump.

Bill gates is decades behind on that prediction. I read sci-fi books about viral pandemics when I was in grade school 50 years ago. I also watched microbes destroy the Martians in War of the Worlds as a kid. Bill gates is 50 years behind the times if not over a hundred years. We saw what the flu could do in 1918 and still did not even have enough masks for our health care workers. When comes to being prepared we were in the stone age.

Of course a democratic president could have snapped their finger and billions of masks would have appeared along with a vaccine, cure, and hundreds of thousands of ventilators. Hell they could have did the old Bewitched nose twitch and saved everyone. Unfortunately Trump was president and no democratic Governors or leaders wanted to upstage Trump so they just let thousands die.

How so? Please be specific?

Where were the masks for our healthcare workers and the ventilators for our sick. The way our elder are packed like sardines in nursing homes clearly shows how prepared we were. That is if you wanted to kill them off. Where was the cure and the vaccine from all that research. Hell they did not even know we needed to wear a mask. Those idiots put China in charge of the people of this countries lives and now we are dying by the thousands thanks to that plan.

If you never heard of the influenza pandemic of 1918 you need to do some reading. I hope that is specific enough.

Yep. Even after dismantling all of our preparedness, the admin continued to do everything wrong possible. From downplaying concern to failing to act. In both maintaining preparedness and acting when necessary, the admin was a total disaster.

South Korea had a plan and acted on it immediately, mobilizing testing and isolation and tapping a multitude of sources and manufacturers for needed supplies. They won early. We, despite what the President told us, did not win early.

We know what worked and we know what didn't. It's far too late in the process to play the ignorance card, "but what could anyone have done". Anyone could have done what South Korea did and there's no excuse.

No amount of ignorance can hide the failure.

It's not. I've been studying epidemiology as a layman for more than 20 yrs. I have a library of more than 50 books on the subject. I spent 2 years working at the Gates Foundation, and had access to the grants being submitted and their research...which was great because I was fascinated by it.

Those years they were mostly focused on malaria and the last 2 outlier countries with polio.

So yeah, I'd like to see you support your claim that BillG was decades behind. How so? And do you believe there were others 'further ahead' in their predictions? If so, who? With what predictions?

And that, may be why we shotgunned our economy and put ourselves in economic ruination. Could we have avoided our current misery? Perhaps. We really don't know the extent we may have. But Trump took care of that. Yes, he did. And he'll do it to us again, somehow some way. It's what he does.

There are so many post on this thread that I would like to ask for citations on. But given how this kind of thing usually goes, I'd be surprised to even get an answer back.

It's good to see that this is just your opinion.

Thanks for proving my point. South Korea depended on South Korea not China. Hopefully we will not make that mistake again and do the research here. Spend our money here and put our people to work on pandemics threatening the world and this country. Time to put America first.

Clearly the people like you did not have us ready. You got it wrong when all the sci-fi books saw it clear as day.

Not sure what you are talking about. We do research here. South Korea mobilized their industry and government quickly so they could do mass testing, quarantine and contact tracing early. As a result they only have 270 deaths and did far less damage to their economy. Instead of mobilizing our country Trump resisted testing because he feels testing raises the number of cases and makes him look bad. Trump puts Trump first. Time to put America first.

I can fight viruses myself. There isnt much I can do against nukes. Which is why we created govt to do it for me. If Bill Gates wants to prepare for war on nature, nothing is stopping him from spending his money on it.

Sort of. The National Stockpile hasn’t been properly maintained for at least 10 years. So the “plan” the previous administration left behind is like having a car manual with no car. I’m not sure I would even go so far as to call it a “plan” since it’s a purely reactionary document. No one was truly prepared for this at any level of government.

That is because they had SARS and their people have been wearing masks for 20 years now. That is because the did not shut down their country but knew exactly what to do. They did not believe China because they paid once before thanks to lies and misinformation for lying countries. Clearly our research was pathetic since we did not even know it was spread human to human at first. Then there was no need for people to wear masks. It is time we fund research here. It is time we spend money here not in China. It is time we have answers here like South Korea had instead of depending on a lying pathetic Chinese government that could care less about our people or any other country in the world. Or we can do this again and continue the stupidity of the last 20 years.

False. Vast swaths of the plan included social distancing and training and education and other measures that do not require equipment. Trump ignored all of it. The plan would have - in fact - helped, but Trump chose to ignore it.

Sorry, I'm not gonna fluff Trump about it like Trumpers do and I'm not gonna dog whistle Obama bs.

Trump is the only person that relied on China. Not us. The President did. The President told us Xi would "solve the problem, OK?"

The President caused the US to rely on China. He praised China and assured America that China would take care of everything.

That's one of his many colossal failures that resulted in tens of thousands of American dead.

Trump’s response or lack there of certainly made matters worse, but there is plenty of blame to go around. Cases of literally rotting masks that expired in 2010 being distributed from the National Stockpile aren’t a dog whistle.

That's precisely what he proposed doing in concert with our government and the resources it has on hand.

Yeah, sorry, dude, I'm not doing the racist thing about Obama.

This is on Trump.

 What is “racist” about pointing out the Obama Administration’s failure to properly maintain the National Stockpile?
