Nikki Haley tells us how we won’t like what Finland says about their Health Care

Neither of these garbage facilities diagnosed a break. Why do you think people come from all over the world to the US for their procedures. I will take quality of service over free ghetto service anytime.

Because they were not obligated to. They probably didn't even do an Xray. That's because he's not a citizen, therefore they're only obligated to stabilize him, so he can go back home and use HIS health care.

Does it sound like my brother is a Romanian citizen? Reread what I wrote.

No, it sounds like he is an American.
Did he expect Romania to foot the bill for him just because he's an American?

You don't understand how universal health care works!
It doesn't mean that it is for ANYONE from ANYWHERE in the UNIVERSE.

Your argument is predicated on pure stupidity.

what ... you mean illegal, undocumented immigrants should not be entitled to universal healthcare (beyond emergency treatment) once we finally make that a reality in the USA?

They're not entitled to it now. Undocumented or illegal immigrants wind up in our ER's, just like other uninsured people do.
I don't foresee that changing for the illegals, why would it?

that was the expectation the forum member had for his brother, a non-citizen, non-legal resident of romania and england ... yet he expected those country's medical systems to fully cover his brother's medical needs. then point to their refusal to do so as a shortcoming of those UHC medical systems

was making the point in a way he might see it ... from the lens of a non-eligible non-citizen

When is the last time you got through to your insurance company, during business hours here in the CONUS, in a timely fashion. Transatlantic calls and time zones seem to be obstacles.

The missus informs me that we have a plan that has basic international coverage, but we have to pay for the service when rendered and then seek reimbursement when we return home.

Yep. That’s how most work.

Both places told him it wasn't broken obviously. that's the point! If a visitor gets hurt in the US they will at least get diagnosed correctly and get minimum treatment. Also, you are treated with dignity here. I have heard they aren't so nice in other countries.

According to an OECD report published in 2013, the Finnish health system is chronically underfunded. The Nordic nation of five million people spent only 7% of GDP on its public health system in 2012, compared with 8% in the UK. In 2012, the report found, 80% of the Finnish population had to wait more than two weeks to see a GP. Finland’s high taxes go on education and daycare.

Well, of course, if the legislature underfunds the thing, people are not going to be thrilled with something.

Oh and btw, unless something's really not right, were I to call today for an appointment with my PCD, the earliest appointment I can get will be at least two weeks from now, maybe a month. It may not be that way "in the middle of nowhere," but in D.C. and for top doctors in large medical LLC practices, that's normal.

LOL.

The Finns responding to Haley sure do seem upset.

But I love how you think spending 7% on your healthcare system is somehow bad, when the US is in double digits with worse outcomes.

But I guess you can see your GP a little faster? Certainly with a few dead moms, amirite?

Red:
Please indicate the specific passage in my above quoted post that indicated to you that I "think spending 7% on your healthcare system is somehow bad."

I guarantee an illegal from Mexico is gonna get better health care in the US than the care Europeans get in their own country.

we don't know that
however, setting the bone is often delayed to allow the swelling to recede
it appears the brother was shopping for somebody else to pick up his medical tab

then prove that "guarantee"
i very much look forward to your proof

No, they will get stabilized at the ER per EMTALA regs.
And not a penny more, and your sunny picture of American emergency rooms is humorous.
Some are, some ain't.
Dignity is optional, except maybe in the ER's in your head.
"I've heard" lots of things, but I prefer facts.

That means you can provide something to back that claim up.

I don't dismiss anything. The Finns spend seven percent on their health care, and they squabble about it.
We spend several times that much, and get lesser results, and crippling personal debt.

And you are wrong on several aspects.

We don't spend.. several times as much.. we spend about double.. and of course that's in part because while they cost shift..like paying for doctors education.. etc..

We don't.. so that cost ends up in the healthcare cost column.

We don't get lower results when it comes to quality of care issues and timeliness of care and effective care in general.

And that's with us having a worse demographic with more obesity , stress etc.. and without our population being all covered by healthcare insurance.

And the crippling personal debt is largely a myth.

Ummm..not really. According to his posts..he pointed out that his brothers problem was not diagnosed appropriately. Either in Romania or in the UK.

nope. we do not know that
instead, it is more likely the brother was not able to receive further medical attention at the time due to swelling
the brother received emergency treatment

Sure. The US only misdiagnoses over 10 million or so people a year on average but yeah I'm sure those visitors always get the correct diagnosis.

there is nothing which tells us an American medical facility would have acted differently

Maybe the Finnish people don't know about this:

Bull****. The top guy who is a multimillionaire didn't get his way so he is resigning. A few weeks before new elections where his party is not favored in the polls. Remind you of a 5 deferment cadet fake bone spurs people? LOL! They are also staying until the election. What a crappola wing nut article. Keep drinking the kool aid.

Well other than the American facility DIAGNOSED IT.. while the two prior facilities..both European facilities... told him nothing was wrong.

Actually when the US is compared to other countries on getting the correct diagnosis,, and the correct treatment... we score higher than most developed countries..like Canada, and most of Europe.

Only after the swelling receded

Only after the swelling receded

You don't need a reduction in swelling to diagnose a fracture... In fact the presence of swelling may indicate a fracture.

This is what I mean by "While it lasts"

Lets learn from history people!

History tells me that our British NHS has been saving lives and healing people since 1948, and for no more than a small monthly contribution via general taxation. Yes, the system is archaic and creaking, but we wouldn't have it any other way. Open heart surgery? Free. Cancer treatment? Free. Hospital stay? Free. Break a leg? Free treatment. Ongoing physiotherapy? Free. CAT/PET/MRI scans? All free. No bills, no ambulance charges, no forms to fill, no questions about insurance and no refusals for medical pre-conditions. Just turn up, get fixed, go home.
That monthly contribution also covers dental, opthalmic and free prescriptions for those who qualify.
I have the choice to go expensively private if I want to, but I would be treated by the same medics, with the same training and qualifications, as those in the NHS-many of whom contract out to the private sector.
People outside Britain claim that delays are frequent; and yes they are-for elective procedures. Emergencies are always prioritised.
The average Briton pays around £6000 PA in general taxation, of which the NHS contribution is a component.
