Anyone watch Duke/UNC last evening? The missus is a grad and a big fan. I watched for a while. Just after tip-off, Duke’s freshman star had an equipment failure and Nike stock and brand seems to have taken a hit. I am wondering if the injury could have worse had the shoe held...

Zion Williamson'''s shoe split puts Nike'''s brand in spotlight | Fox Business

NIKE needs to dispatch some engineers to the site and that shoe needs to be carefully examined and studied to see what caused it to break down like that. Their business and their reputation depends on it.

Zion Williamson is rather fortunate he only came away with a mildly sprained knee. That could have been career ending and cost him - and maybe NIKE - hundreds of millions of dollars.

What a perfect poetic example of what Nike has done to itself. Much like their supporters, Nike sneakers also fail. Those sneaker go perfectly with the Colin T shirt.

I was watching that game, and it was a WTF moment right after tip off.

The debate will go on in terms of Zion's impact to the Duke loss to UNC, and will of course impact the next several upcoming games depending on recovery.

But I wish him a speedy recovery as well, that should not have happened. Terrible defect in that shoe.

I have never seen a shoe explode and I guess this was something wrong with the specific shoe.

I wouldn't be surprised if NC tampered with the shoes.

Even though I have a pair of Air Jordans which I use for running on my treadmill I think Nike is overpriced and overrated.

Like how the NTSB investigates plane crashes? :)

I get the joke - but there is a serious side to this. That is government. This would be internal from NIKE itself investigating the failure of one of its own products.

The bigger outrage is that the cheapest tickets for Duke NC were going for $2,000.... Yet these athletes get paid zero.

That’s what people were asking resale, no word on if they actually went for that.

The athletes get paid plenty, and if they are unhappy with their compensation, they aren’t forced to participate.

???

The athletes get paid zero. They are considered students.

I am not sure where you have been.

If only this put Phil Knight and his university out of business. ****ing prick.

A free college education is far from zero.

These college basketball players are staying in college for 1 year and they might attend 3-4 classes. What education are you referring too?

If they don’t like the arrangement, they are free not to participate. The NCAA is doing them a service so that they can play ball until they are old enough to play in the NBA. The “one and done” rule is the NBA’s rule, not the NCAA’s.

Actually, the NBA forces these kids to go to college. Shouldn't an 18-year old have the right to be able to make a wage and support his/her family? It is completely ridiculous that an 18-year old kid cannot work and get a salary and be forced to play in college for free.

College athletes by contract are not allowed to work on the side. That's pathetic.

No, the NBA doesn’t force anyone to go to college. There are other pro leagues that they can play in right out of high school where they will get paid. One of the Ball boys is doing just that.

Stupid or not, the age requirement is the NBA’s rule, most likely because of the players union.

So the fact is if a high schooler doesn't want to go play college basketball his only other option is to play overseas in another country.

These colleges are making so much money off student-athletes, it makes me sick to my stomach. Greed and power were two reasons why the Penn State coach was allowed to rape so many kids. Colleges put too much power in coaches and admins.

College athletes are forced to go to college. It is a giant con game.

Take it up with the NBA, it’s their rule, not the NCAA’s, but no one is forcing anyone to play college basketball.
