New power ranking by this source:

NFL Power Rankings: The Patriots move down after a loss

... has the Patriots for the first time out of #1.

I think it makes sense that the Saints are #1. They only lost the very game when Drew Brees got injured, which can mess with the heads of players. Then a back-up went 5-0 which indeed like this source says, shows balance, and Brees is back and doing great.

The Niners above the Pats, I'm less sure, despite their undefeated status.

The Ravens in 4th place seems fair as well, given how well Jackson is playing.

-----------

Off-topic here but I find that Clemson dropping to #5 is weird. Sure, their strength of schedule isn't great, but that's basically the fault of the other ACC teams (the conference used to have several ranked teams which would ensure the strength of schedule but this season they only have Wake Forest ranked, other than Clemson). You're the defending champs, you don't lose to anybody, you win every week by large margins, but still, some committee may deny you the opportunity to defend your title???

-----------

Back to the NFL, Cam Newton's season is over. Injured Reserve for him. I've been saying in a Panthers message board no less, that Cam these days is injury prone and will never be the same. I'm a Panthers fan, I say so not out of any hatred for Cam, much the opposite. I like Cam Newton. But the Panthers need to realize that he is no longer really viable as the franchise quarterback. I'm sure the Panthers won't realize that for a while and will insist with him next season, but then he'll get another injury... and another...

Kyle Allen is not that good, actually. His 5-1 record is misleading. The Panthers' wins came out of so-so teams; when they faced a good one, the Niners, they were crushed. Now they'll play against Green Bay and New Orleans... soon enough Kyle Allen will get exposed. He has decent throw accuracy but little mobility in the pocket and he is slow to make decisions. And even his accuracy is dropping as the season goes by.

My Panthers are in deep trouble. Despite a 5-3 record, I don't think they will make the playoffs.

Until the Pats lose 4 before winning 10, they’re the best team in the league. I don’t care if SF is 14-0 at the time, either.

The Chiefs MASH unit moves up after a tough win over Minnesota. Pat Mahomes will likely play this week and their best DL is also back, so naturally they have a soft spot in the schedule--Titans in Nashville, Chargers in Mexico City, Bye, Oakland at home.

Like I said, "The Niners above the Pats, I'm less sure, despite their undefeated status." Therefore, we agree on this. But the Saints, I don't know. They may indeed be better than the Patriots. I've been watching all their games, and rooting against them (they're rivals, I'm a Panthers fan) but to my dismay, they've been playing very well. I don't see why they should be faulted for losing the very game when Drew Brees got hurt. They still played well in that game, but got derailed and lost. The Pats, on the other hand, played horribly against the Ravens, and lost.

So, both teams have only one loss. One of them played well when they lost. The other one didn't. Both teams beat all other opponents.

Who is to say that the Pats are currently better than the Saints?

Look, I definitely don't want the Saints to be the champs. But I'm really impressed with their play. I watched all their games; I didn't watch all Pats game (did watch some), but generally, the Saints are impressing me more than the Patriots.

What's the lifespan of an NFL running-back? 4-5 years? If the Ravens keep using Jackson like like a RB like they are now, in a few years he'll be done. Even yesterday he took a few hard shots. Harbaugh being Harbaugh I'm sure he don't give a rats ass, but I can't see Jackson taking that kind of beating more than 4-5 years.

Jackson should look at what is happening to Newton. I'm a Panthers fan and I love Cam Newton, but from the very beginning of his success, I always thought "but all this running and consequently all these hits will shorten his career span." Ditto. It's happening now. Cam Newton hasn't had a healthy full season in a long time. When Cam is FULLY healthy he is capable of being the league's MVP, and did win one of these. But he has been really injury prone.

I think his career is basically over. He will never be again the dual threat he used to be. The Panthers will take a while to realize it, and will insist with him a couple of more disappointing seasons, then they will finally wake up and trade him out or he will retire like Andrew Luck did.

If Jackson doesn't learn this lesson, he'll be another one who will have a short career.

Wow! No wonder I quit watching this crap.

Neither Jag touched Watson, but yet--flag and 15 yards.

That was a good contender for the worst call I've ever seen. Soon, the NFL will become the flag football league.

Wow, I'm watching Chargers at Raiders on 4K UHD and my provider (Dish) has a special channel for 4K, and it doesn't have commercials. When the regular broadcast is showing a commercial break, it just goes to a screen saver and some music.

Watching a whole football game like this kind of highlights the awful number of commercials we have to endure in NFL games. When they play normally we notice less how long and frequent they are, but when we just see a screen saver with some annoying background music, we realize how long and frequent the commercial breaks are.

This is why I like to DVR football games and watch them after they end (in which case I carefully avoid spoilers) so that I can skip all the commercials.

Phillip Rivers will walk into the Hall of Fame despite being one of the biggest fraud's in the game.

I think he deserves the HoF.

I mean sure but it sum's up what a joke it is. The guy will walk into the HOF based on inflated regular season stats meanwhile he's 3-4 in the playoffs and has never sniffed a superbowl. Then you look at a player like Blount who had a consistent career but won 3 Sb's with two different teams and he won't get anywhere near the HOF because they only look at the stats.

I don't think SB's are determinative.

BB will need to do the best coaching of his career to get the Pat's past the first round of the playoff's.

Brady still has the game..........but has zero protection.

They have the worst blocking running backs in the league.....IMO

The running game is missing.

Edelman is banged up and in pain. It's to the point where it's affecting his catching. You can see his eyes looking where the defenders are before the ball gets to him.....and you can't blame him for that.

Losing Gronk only puts more pressure on Edelman and Brady because the rest of their receiver corp sucks.

Teams can run almost at will against their supposedly great defense.

some nice film of Run CMC:

Refs are doing all they can to keep the Titans from getting blown out early by KC..

In the 1st 8 minutes of the game Refs have called 5 MAJOR penalties against KC's offense, 2 were phantom calls.

NFL is becoming 'questionable'. And I HATE saying that.

Lions backup QB is playing better than the Bears starting QB on the road...

LOL.

Knew the Saints were gonna let me down at some point. Oh well. At least the Falcons will keep Dan Quinn around because of this.

Mortal to the Ravens perhaps. Not to the rest of the NFL except the Giants. The Ravens QB makes every D look mortal. His speed is killer against typical defense played in the NFL.

How long before the league adjusted to RGIII?

Don’t think it will take that long....

Broken bones in the back, ruptured spleen (Chris Simms), at least Andrew Luck had the smarts to walk away under his own steam.

I have a hard time keeping up with the current rosters; where did Finley @ Bengals come from. I used to know all the starting QBs, now not so much!

They benched Dalton. Finley is a 4th round pick from NC State.
