New poll reveals how most Americans feel about Confederate statues[W:52]

Because pollsters don't govern the country?

Say, why are poll results only relevant when they confirm what you already believe?

That isn't even close to an explanation. So you think the poll is wrong? It's not even close, and no one that isn't just a reactionary butt kisser is calling for the removal of these monuments.

Re: New poll reveals how most Americans feel about Confederate statues

Why? Because we have allowed a very small group of powerful people to engage in a ideological culture war designed to create chaos.

Rather than stand together as one, man/women/white/black/green/red/blue, to challenge their offensive, we have sat back and allowed ourselves to be taken in by sound bites, propaganda, deceit, and gross public manipulation.

People need to wake up to what is going on, and question why, all of a sudden, the Nation is tearing itself apart. Start digging into that question, and the wizards behind the curtains will reveal themselves.

Cut the strings! Stop taking the bait! Stop barking at the dog whistles!

Just got this in an e-mail:

"Black people who were never slaves are fighting white people who were never Nazis over a confederate statue erected by democrats, because democrats can't stand their own history anymore and somehow it's Trump's fault? Interesting!"

I agree with your post. I'd like to add this: one hot round in George Soros' left ear and all of this seditious chaos would disappear.

Reactionary butt-kisser? I'd say it's the reactionaries who are trying to keep the statues.
Correct me where I'm wrong. You raise a statue to someone to honour them for some great accomplishment, something they've done that you want to memorialize. The leaders of the Confederacy precipitated the war that killed more Americans than any other, and wounded your country in a way that hasn't healed even 150+ years later. In fact, this whole controversy is just that wound still bleeding.
You think those guys ought to be honoured with statues?

Re: New poll reveals how most Americans feel about Confederate statues

And how does that matter in relation to the large majority that want them to stay put? What is the point, if there is one?

I think if the large majority knew that these weren't old statues, 30+ in N. Carolina since 2000 they may have a change of heart. Again what's the reason for this, other than to intimidate & or to rally the ALT right. Why are they put in public parks? Why not a museum?

Re: New poll reveals how most Americans feel about Confederate statues

No one ever asked Blacks if they wanted the statues that glorify slavery put up in the first place.

I think all the statues showing people being enslaved should be looked at for removal. Can you think of any?

I'm not for erasing history and ripping down statues because a bankrupt party thinks it can make political hay. Hundreds of years, and all of a sudden the leftist are smarter than anyone has been in all that time.

And don't forget, everyone that was killed was an American in that war.

Just so we are clear, are you arguing that if a majority of those polled believe X then we must all accept X as the correct position? If so, things can get uncomfortable for you really quickly!

I am against tearing down ANY inanimate statues or monument. They are simply artwork reflecting certain historical events.

Seriously? So once they go up, they're off limits for perpetuity, or just until a developer needs the property to build some condos or something?

Nope, sorry. False assumption.

Re: New poll reveals how most Americans feel about Confederate statues

They aren't "historical" monuments. They don't mark any relevant historical sites, battles, events or teach anything about history. The only thing historical about them is that they were erected during Jim Crowe and have stood there for a few years.

Oh, but they are. They mark the way people felt, when they were erected and are a reminder of it. That is why it is important to let them stand. We should be ashamed of our society for not being able to deal mentally with them so little that we fall into a kind of societal double-bind and act like Taliban or Hitler's youths.

I'm not for erasing history either. Thankfully taking down a monument glorifying a Confederate traitor doesn't erase one dot of history, except perhaps the history of that bit of metal and stone dedicated to a white supremacist.

And I can't speak for anyone else, but IMO there's a big difference between a monument to the soldiers who died, versus a monument to Jefferson Davis or Lee or Forrest.

Give me a break. We've seen lots of defenders of those monuments, and I can't name a single one but you who claims that the reason they want them to stay up is to remind them of the stain of Jim Crow and the white supremacists who erected these monuments to their white supremacist heroes. This is the South we're talking about - home of Lost Cause mythology.

Then why do you or should we care about the polls, unless all we care about is the narrow political implications? Does this help democrats or republicans?

I prefer public exposure and scorn over assassination.

Besides, Soro's, while certainly one of those at the top of the heap, is just one of a number of people, both here, and abroad, who are pulling the strings.

People need to wake up to what these people are doing, and why.

It all connects. From social justice, to global warming solutions. The same players are in the same arenas, pushing chaos, and a global culture war.

Seriously? So once they go up, they're off limits for perpetuity, or just until a developer needs the property to build some condos or something?

There are exceptions to every rule.

What a lot of posters here fail to get is that those in favor of removing the statues are Independents, Republicans and Democrats.

So, you don't care about polls now?

Sometimes polls are meaningful, but not on issues of right or wrong.

Thank you!

Re: New poll reveals how most Americans feel about Confederate statues

I wouldnt have a issue with it if that were the case, if this was isolated to localities and cities, but Im not that naive

The idiots that pulled down that statue in Durham were part of the World workers party, a Communist organization that seeks to overthrow the US Govt and replace it with Socialist state.

In Atlanta ANTIFA thugs climbed onto a Confederate monument in a attempt to pull it down.

These arent Liberals, these are Left wing fringe groups who could care less where these statues are located. They also believe Statues and memorials of our founders should be removed.

This isnt going to stop at local parks and city halls, not of they can help it because its not about removing Confederate statues, its a attack on this Nation and its history and its founding

Worse, Democrats and the media aew supporting it.
A majority of Americans dont want these statues removed, I wonder if that number would grow if they new who was behind it ?
