New policy requires on-field players, personnel to stand for anthem

Goodell and the owners are capitalists. Why does that surprise you?

Goodell frames his players and suspends them without evidence.

Deflategate? Fraud
Bounty scandal? Fake
J mart bullying case? Not real.

His business style is more like hitler.

I guess college students aren’t the only ones that want to force people to conform to their own standards of political correctness. In any case, it is a private organization and they can make whatever stupid rules they want.

Just noticed that the owner of the NY Jets said today that if any of his players choose to take a knee during the anthem, he will personally pay any fine the NFL assesses.

I’d be fine if this was the policy from the beginning similar to FIFA with their no nonsense attitude to political symbols. But this just wasn’t the case here and it’s obvious to me that the NFL have cowered under political pressure from the US president etc.
Also this narrative “ they are just employees” is ridiculous. Me and you are just employees, they are elite athletes whom the NFL rely on for a product. They have considerably more power than your average worker.

Hopefully someone has pointed out that if people dont want to stand they have the option to stay in the locker room without penalty.....the NFL hopefully will fine hard for kneeling....$50,000 per player each time should do the trick.

Would you be ok if your employer demanded that you stand for the allegiance every day before work?

My employer not only has me stand for the National Anthem but I have to be at attention and saluting as well.

If I were voicing my political opinions at work to the point it's driving away customers, I'd be told to either stop or find another job. The office is not a personal soap box.

Well the NFL is in the money making business, it's what they do. Though viewership has been dropping the past couple of years.

In general, they go to make a profit. I think this has even come at the cost of the integrity of the game itself, but this is nothing new.

Will players strike over something like this? I doubt it. They are getting paid a lot of money to play a game, and this sort of political demonstration may not be worth the loss of income for the players. If the NFL wants to do this, they can. I don't think it would matter largely one way or the other.

Players can still wait in the locker room...
