If this story has any legs, NBC needs to step up and solve the ‘mystery.’

That may be true. Tillerson has NOT denied this; as I wrote in another thread he played the grand master of diplomacy/tact expressing his undying admiration for Donald Trump.....but he denied neither saying it, nor wanting to quit, which is the real story.

There is a best-before date on the "fake news" chant and we seem to be reaching it. Everything Baby Huey doesn't like is "fake news". No water for 85% of Puerto Rico for five days was "fake news", and Maria wasn't a "real hurricane" like Katrina.

Now a report that Trump's number 4 hear beat away from the presidency had seriously wanted out during the destructive chaos of the first 100 or more days, when Trump was firing and attacking his own people. "Moron" of not, the relegation of wanting out is far to fitting of the circumstances to meet the criteria of "fake news".

Based on how many outright lies come out of Trump's pie hole, "fake news" is having less and less impact.

I watched Tillerson's statement; and commented that he is a master politician, addressing the topic and laying things to rest 'for him' without even directly referencing "moron" nor wanting to leave. But, he did not deny either. He is obviously far too smart for that.

I suspect Washington is looking very Nixonian these days,...like the song "paranoia strikes deep...."

Nope- 3 officials and Tillerson in his PC did not deny it, danced around it, but no denial.

Start at the 3 minute or 355 mark or 449
He addresses resigning but not calling Trump an FFn moron.
I thought Tillerson in his assessment of Trump was quite kind.
Tell me where he denies making the FFN moron statement ref Trump.

Not whether it has legs, did he or did he not make the comment?
No mystery, they will not name sources. Wait for the book to come out.

Tillerson didn't call Trump a moron, and Clinton didn't have sex with that woman.

Terminology from the Watergate days, “non-denial denial.”

The President has called Moron-Gate Fake News. NBC's response:

That's what we kids call, a burn! :flame:

Hmmmmm

Not to offend anyone, but this is the sort of thing that feeds Trump's "fake news". To begin with it's a petty matter, and "moron" cannot be proven; he has unquestioningly denied ever wanting to quit. I don't believe that, but that too cannot be proven.

So we are at the conundrum of a disputed petty story going on and on in the only way it can in DP, all the time with average, swing voters watching and tiring of it.. It would not surprise me at all if Trump himself didn't feed this one himself.

It appears Trump has one marketing plan. Get his name mentioned or seen a much as possible regardless of bias. [I believe he secretly loves criticism, he gets stoked by it and it never sticks with anyone he needs]. But his game plan is the ultimate of Narcissism. He knows a national news outlet has room for four, maybe five major stories any given day. Trump has learned how to be one or more of them, regardless of negative or positive.

I don't think anyone has this guy figured out yet, and I suspect he's deteriorating. Watch a clip from the Apprentice and pay attention to his grammar, then take a look at some of hi recent comments; he has gone from being quite loquacious and erudite compared to today where his vocabulary has become repetitive and often a kind of goulash.

What do you mean? They pretty much acknowledge that they didn't verify the story, can't name the source, and Tillerson did not confirm it either. MSNBC is all but admitting that they made up the entire SNAFU.

I may be conservative and Republican voter (when I vote) but I'm not going to rationalize and blind myself to the obvious. Of course NBC won't name the source, it is 100 percent standard practice for reporters of ANY political side to not reveal sources when it is against the sources will. The story may or may not be true, but one assumes that when a newsroom says they have three sources they almost certainly do.

Moreover, the story is perfectly consistent with the interactions already observed. Tillerson stood against Trump on Charlottesville, Trump has publicly undermined him on policies. Numerous unprecedented incidents over the past year strongly suggest the story has at least some truth.

While it is impossible to know how much truth it is (the sources are probably folks that have left or been forced out), I suspect that at least the part about calling Trump a moron is true. Frankly, I suspect many of his employees have been sometimes frustrated enough by his style to blurt out the same thing in private.

For my part, there are days I praise Trump and, on other days, think he is a total idiot.

I guess I don't understand why this is such a big story. Why should we expect Tillerson to be any better than the rest of us?

Considering all that is going on in the world, this is really trivial. I know there’s a segment here that do not care how the country is viewed on the world stage, but I cannot imagine what others are making of US.

Trump is a serial liar. Trump brings sycophants on board who will support him. Rex Tillerson is a Trump sycophant. US presidents and US administration officials are/were/have always been world class liars of planetary proportions.

Honestly? This country is so ****ed up right now that the SoS calling POTUS a moron is nothing. It's less than nothing. It's a big fat nothing-burger. I could almost guarantee that the rest of the world is looking at us, saying, "Yeah they just said what we are all feeling. He IS a ****ing moron."

It's indicative of mainstream Republicans views of Trump. It's kind of a big deal if the Secretary of State thinks his president is a ****ing moron.

You seem to think this is a state secret. Rex is not alone.

Yeah! He would certainly confirm that he called his boss, the President of the United States, a moron.

Anybody would.

You do realize that if you applied this logic to everybody virtually nobody would be in jail. Or get caught cheating. Or any damn other thing you can put a lid on by simply saying you didn't do it.

Sheesh.

No you didn't. He was asked point blank and he didn't deny it....he danced around the issue. That should tell you that he absolutely said it.
