Nba 2020

Since the nest ten weeks will be ESPN hyping MJ's greatness and the attention will be on his victories, I spent a few hours today watching his gradual climb to the top. This game would be pivotal in that endeavor.

Interesting stat: Bulls won 5 of their 6 titles by 4-2 margins in the finals. The series against the Lakers, their first, ended 4-1.

They never swept all of their Eastern Conference playoff games, although they did come close twice and lost two games to one team once.

1991: Lost 1 game to Barkley and Philly; swept the Knicks in the opening round and Detroit in the ECF
1993: Lost 2 games to NY in the ECF, after sweeping Miami and Cleveland
1996: Lost 1 game to NY; swept the Heat in the opening round and Orlando in the ECF

Daggers delivered by Mike:
First three-peat:
Permanently ended the reign of the Bad boys and Showtime
Destroyed Cleveland's hopes on several occasions
Killed Ewing and the Knicks, year in and year out
Slaughtered Barkley in two cities: Philly and Phoenix
Forever put Clyde Drexler at the bottom of the conversation for greatness.

Second three-peat:
Murdered several up and comers in the 72-win year:
A. Posterized Zo and the Heat
B. Put a dagger in Shaq and the Magic
C. Ended Kemp in Seattle.
Reggie and Indianapolis--remember them? Yeah, Mike made sure you wouldn't.
Wrapped up Stockton and the Mailman, sending them home special delivery, twice.

Given the comments above, being a fan of Clyde as well as Mike, I have to say, the Portland Finals series was the best; my favorite by far.

Oh my! I forgot how well Jordan played in that game. 35 first half points, 6 threes. He owned Clyde. I'm at the end of the third; Bulls are up by over 35 points.

Forget the hype on ESPN during the coming ten weeks. If you want the truth on what really tore apart the greatest team ever, go with KISS (keeping it simple, Stupid).

The truth, as always, lies in the middle. Jerry Krause played a role in the end of the dynasty. He was not the evil-doing puppet master as popular history might have us believe. Two things can be true at the same time.

This, my friends, is what really happened.

Greatest ever? Boston Celtics of the Bill Russell era. Eleven championships. Russell had nine as a player and two as coach.

I don't count the time when the league was mostly filled with slow white guys.

Ah. I'm not sure K.C. Jones, Sam Jones, Tom Sanders, Bill Russell or Wayne Embry would agree.

lol...first AA to play in an all star game was 1953. Russell gets in the league in 1956. It's a mostly white league until the 70's.

Titles before 1975 don't really count.

funny that theory doesn't apply in baseball?

Of course it does. Hell, Babe Ruth was hitting homeruns while sitting on his couch. It helped that the pitchers he hit them off of had to work odd jobs during the off season.

Most people consider Babe Ruth the greatest baseball player ever over more athletic talented black athletes.

We'll just have to disagree. You're leaving out Bill Russell, Oscar Robertson, Elgin Baylor and most of the careers of Walt Frazier and Earl Monroe, among many others.

Babe Ruth was a fat ass. Besides, this is a basketball thread. If you want to talk Babe Ruth, start a thread on him, Bucky.

Do you think Rick Barry, Jerry West, John Havlicek, Dave Cowens, Pete Maravich, etc. would be all stars today?

All but Maravich, yes.

Some of those guys are childhood favorites, especially John H. But, I doubt he would even make it into the league today.

Okay .. that was pretty funny. Thanks for the Monday morning laugh.

Luka Doncic is one of the best players in the nba today and he is not black.

He's not American either. Funny how almost all the white guys in the league are from Europe. It kind of makes sense. Tall white Americans are rare, and those are usually klutzy.

Back to the 90's in 2020.

Even though I watched each one of these ECF games in '92, I had completely forgotten that Steve Kerr was once on the Cavs.
