If your goal was to deal with illegal immigration building a 60 + billion, 5 + billion a year wall is a waste.
It takes the average person 15 min to by pass the wall take that money and spend it on border agents, surveillance system, Immigration Judges and your detection and removal numbers will skyrocket.
but this was never about illegal immigration it was about building a wall nothing more.

This is what happen when you elect by talking point and not by substance.

Worse than that, Sen. Lankford who is often trotted out by McConnell when he wants a GOP Senator to message has said that Trump's Saturday offer is nothing more than a strawman designed to push around the Senate so that there is something else to push around there besides the Bills that the House has already signed.

That is pretty disgusting. Trump did not even mention the 800,000 federal employees in his Saturday announcement, did not even mention the damage to the country or the economy and all Trump and the GOP has at this point is a strawman designed to push around the Senate floor! It will attract no Dem votes even if sweeteners from left field are added to it. I guess you could say that it might have some value as a means to take the temperature of GOP Senators with regard to breaking ranks. But you would not think McConnell would need to take their temperature via some halfassed vote. He should know it at any given moment.

Clearly then McConnell is worried that the pressure is starting to mount in his direction as all he has to show for 31 days of shutdown is hiding and scurrying around DC trying to avoid the cameras and microphones while refusing to bring the Bills passed in the House to the floor of the Senate. But trying to push a strawman around the Senate floor indicates he is quite willing to see the gov remain shutdown longer.

Trump not mentioning the federal workers even once in his Saturday announcement was a huge tactical blunder and trying to slide a post announce tweet in later in the weekend hardly got it done. In fact it just points out the depth of the original blunder.

In addition, trying to make the conversion to a discussion of slats v solid construction wall as a concession is laughable. Its no concession at all. That is just somebody cluing Dizzy Donald in that his own CBP has always wanted something they could see through. So after two years of yammering about solid construction wall, dawn breaks over that cracked dome of his and somebody finally clues him in to something anybody who would have asked would have known two years ago!
