Nancy Pelosi is winning in her battle with Trump. Here's why

Personally, I'd probably try not to plagiarize in the future. It's a worthy goal. Opinions differ.

Yeah, remember when she said "I can't give in. It would make me look foolish"?

Oh ... wait.

Yeah, she is the self serving one.

If Shakespeare got resurrected and then forced to do a play about Trump, that would be his fatal flaw.

He created a situation in which he is destined to fail on the grandest stage, and he lacks the character to stop hurting himself and the Republican party.

Luckily for Democrats, McConnell surrendered his spine sometime in the early oughts.

You quote the passage that you're copying, and you attribute it to the person who actually wrote it.

Good. You've learned.

Okay, resume teaching us about debate.

I should give up waiting for you to prove your plagiarism argument... *sigh*

A shame really... you came in all guns blazing and retreated in defeat...

Impartial observers agree that Nancy is winning.

She has to win in order to keep her rebels (such as Alexandria and Rashida) in line.

Personally, I am hoping that President Trump can find some way to put Nancy in her place.

Maybe some people who know the ins and outs of politics can give him some helpful tips. The President, of course, is inexperienced in the dirty tricks of politics (bless his little heart).

Oh, I've already done that. You must've missed it while you were teaching the crowd about all that you have learned.

Are you saying unless you have complete control of either the house or the senate a vote shouldn't be taken at all. That is a poor excuse for governing.

Don't disagree, but this is reality and has been for a while now.

Nope... all you did was hurl out an accusation. Since you don't understand what actually entails plagiarism you failed in making a correct accusation and instead only made a bunch of retarded posts.

You copied a website without attribution. You got caught. You got upset when you got caught. You can't admit you did it. I get it.

Clearly, you're okay with plagiarizing. You do you.

You are somebody... not sure who, but you matter... and that is why I would like for you to tell me what point you are trying to make. Thank you.

You implied that Pelosi is the self serving politician in the room. I simply quoted the president to demonstrate that he too is self serving. He cannot give in because in his words "It would make me look foolish." Not, "It would lead to the end of civilization as we know it. It would lead to the destruction of America. It would cause untold hardship on the U.S. economy. It would result in a massive increase in crime."

Nope. The reason that the president cannot give in is because "it would make him look foolish." That is THE reason.

Here is an excerpt from the official White House transcript of a phone conversation Trump had with Mexican president Nieto:

The only thing I will ask you though is on the wall, you and I both have a political problem. My people stand up and say, “Mexico will pay for the wall” and your people probably say something in a similar but slightly different language. But the fact is we are both in a little bit of a political bind because I have to have Mexico pay for the wall – I have to. I have been talking about it for a two year period, and the reason I say they are going to pay for the wall is because Mexico has made a fortune out of the stupidity of U.S. trade representatives. They are beating us at trade and they are beating us at the border, and they are killing us with drugs. Now I know you are not involved with that, but regardless of who is making all the money, billions and billions and billions – some people say more – is being made on drug trafficking that is coming through Mexico. Some people say that the business of drug trafficking is bigger than the business of taking our factory jobs. So what I would like to recommend is – if we are going to have continued dialogue – we will work out the wall. They are going to say, “who is going to pay for the wall, Mr. President?” to both of us, and we should both say, “we will work it out.” It will work out in the formula somehow. As opposed to you saying, “we will not pay” and me saying, “we will not pay.”

Because you and I are both at a point now where we are both saying we are not to pay for the wall. From a political standpoint, that is what we will say. We cannot say that anymore because if you are going to say that Mexico is not going to pay for the wall, then I do not want to meet with you guys anymore because I cannot live with that. I am willing to say that we will work it out, but that means it will come out in the wash and that is okay. But you cannot say anymore that the United States is going to pay for the wall. I am just going to say that we are working it out. Believe it or not, this is the least important thing that we are talking about, but politically this might be the most important talk about. But in terms of dollars – or pesos – it is the least important thing. I know how to build very inexpensively, so it will be much lower than these numbers I am being presented with, and it will be a better wall and it will look nice. And it will do the job.

Trump already put Nancy in her place. And where is that place?

The Speaker of the House!

And she is neither intimidated nor amused by Trump. His antics, his tweets, his insults, his tantrums, all run off her like water off a duck's back. She is well aware of the power she wields, and she is not afraid to use it to send a strong message. Unlike him, she doesn't obsess over perceived slights. She keeps her eye on the goal and continues to forge ahead.

And best of all, she is not afraid, as the leader of the people's representatives, to tell the president "No."

If Trump wants to die on the government shutdown hill, Pelosi will certainly let him. It's just now dawning on Trump that he no longer controls Congress.

The Trump/Kushner/Mulvaney offer yesterday was a [bumbling] nonstarter. All Trump offered is restoring the Dreamer protections he himself removed.

That's not going to cut it, nor will it extricate Trump from the deepening political pit he's been digging for himself.

Just one question

How are you going to get McConnell and or Trump to change their mind?

Because that is where you are...you have to change one of the two....

How? Or are you gonna keep the government closed indefinitely...and if so, when is Pelosi going to tell that to her federal workers

I am sure they would like to know her plans....

A big problem for Trump in these negotiations is all his life he's been surrounded by yes men and ass kissers. In politics that doesn't work when you're dealing with the other side of the aisle.

If the Republican controller House and Senate (over the last two years) would have just done their job then Pelosi wouldn't have to make Trump look so inept.

Apparently you are not reading our back and forth... he is the one that thinks that providing evidence is plagiarizing and that cutting and pasting said evidence into an argument is a weak form of debating... but glad to see you are awake now and trying to learn.

Do you always need to lie or mischaracterize what people said in order to make an argument?

She doesn't have to get either of them to change thier minds....she can leave that to the public, who, when listened to (hopefully), will guide them to do what they want.

Shes not the one keeping the government closed anymore....Mitch took care of that when he decided to actually adhere to his marching orders of not bringing anything to a vote that the President wouldn't sign. By doing so, every time the House passes a clean budget, and the Senate doesn't vote on it, they look more and more like the obstructionists they have been for the last 10 years.

Simple fact is this.....Trump backed the entire party into a corner when he proclaimed he was going to shut down the government and was happy about it. Now, hes in the untenable position of either looking like a sissy by letting the court of public opinion force his hand, or looking like a disconnected idiot who refuses to listen to the people he governs in a bid for his ego boosting legacy wall.

Mitch is just doing what any good soldier would do, regardless of how crappy the order was to begin with.

False assumption on the part of the suthor.

If Trump wants to die on the government shutdown hill, Pelosi will certainly let him. It's just now dawning on Trump that he no longer controls Congress.

If that is the case, then why are the libruls whining incessantly about McConnell refusing to allow floor votes on Nancy's bills to end the shutdown?

The Trump/Kushner/Mulvaney offer yesterday was a [bumbling] nonstarter.

At least Trump is putting offers on the table, which is how bipartisan politics is supposed to work. Pelosi is just rejecting anything and everything out of hand if it includes funding for the border wall. Trump is willing to negotiate and compromise while Nancy is attempting to force one party rule.

All Trump offered is restoring the Dreamer protections he himself removed.

No actually the Dreamers had no such protections. Those so-called protections were based on Obama executive orders. Obama was of the executive branch, not the legislative branch. His executive orders on the Dreamers were not legal.

That's not going to cut it, nor will it extricate Trump from the deepening political pit he's been digging for himself.

That is utter nonsense. 800,000 federal employees are missing paychecks because the democrats want to play politics on an issue they helped pass in 2006. Schumer, Hillary, and even Obama voted in favor of the Secure Fence Act. The democrats are now looking quite stupid keeping the government shut down over the same issue, simply because they hate Trump.

So you’re good with the government being shut down for next two years?

As long as your ok with it....

Pelosi is a dementia addled moron with a "deer in the headlights" expression on her face all the time. In one or two televised speeches, months ago, she could not even remember who the president was. In one speech, she thought it was Bush. About the only reason the democrats still keep her around is that she is like an ATM machine. She is able to raise alot of cash for the party. Otherwise, she is the queen of inept.

I think it will be McConnell that flips first. Trump just does not give a darn. He would just as soon the whole thing collapse around our ears. But McConnell knows that if Trump is allowed to subvert Article 1 of the Constitution and further do it at the point of ta knife, then Article 1 goes off the cliff edge and the entire Congress goes with it. McConnell's entire preoccupation has nothing to do with Walls or any of Trump's nonsense. It has to do with protecting his Senate Majority. Well you don't have a Senate Majority if you don't have a Senate any longer. We have always said that the GOP would cut away from Trump when he went from being their flag bearer to being their boat anchor. We just did not think it would take a Constitutional Crisis to get there. We thought it would happen in the politics. It still might.

I am sure this has occurred to Mitch already. Will he wait for us to be close to collapse before he acts? Does he want that baggage attached to his legacy? Once it becomes common knowledge we are risking all of what separates this country from the absurdity of 17th through 20th century European Royalty, I suspect that will become a political pressure on Mitch all its own. Rumblings of it already starting to come to the surface.

Where did you get that impression? Of course I'm not okay with it...but I also realize at this point who the public seems to be siding with on this issue.

Currently, the majority of people place the blame for this on Trump and McConnell. That means that the longer this goes on, the worse THEY look. If they are willing to go down that road, then that is on them.

Nancy and the House have now passed EIGHT, count them, EIGHT bills to reopen the government. Every one of them has been DOA in the Senate. Guess who looks responsible for that? You guessed it.....Uncle Mitchy, and by extension, Big Poppa Trump.

This isn't about what I'm okay with, because what I WOULDN'T be okay with would be funding a boondoggle to get the government to do what it is supposed to be doing in the first place.
