Ms. Ocasio-Cortez, the latest minority messiah of the new socialist politics, has not reduced her output on-going amusement. The craft drink bartender "from the Bronx" is back showing us the worth of a 1/4 of a mill in higher education costs, and a degree in International Relations and Economics from Boston U.
The self-admitted non-expert on geo-politics and on the causes of unemployment (certified by getting the the pants of fire award) reports she has taken a crash course from a noble economist - and showed Trevor Noah on the Daily Show how "smart" she is on economics.
On the show Noah kindly asked her how she intended to pay for her agenda. Ms. O-C prattled on about Warren Buffet not paying his fair share, and how raising the corporate tax to 28 percent would raise 2 Trillion dollars over 10 years...unaware, one supposes, that the cost of medi-care for all is anticipated to be upto 28 trillion over 10 years (the bi-partisan Committee for a Responsible Budget). 28T minus 2T is only 26 Trillion short, is she some economist or what ?
And for the shortfall for her full agenda, she suggests there be a carbon tax "on top of that" so we can also get people away from fossil fuels. How much more will it raise? She doesn't know but she did say it will take 3 or 4 trillion to "transition to a 100 percent renewable economy". Exactly how a declining carbon tax for transition to renewables will have anything left over for anything (like Medicare or the rest of her agenda) is a mystery.
Finally OC showed how smart she has become from researching the budget: "Just last year we gave the military a $700 billion budget increase, which they didn’t even ask for,” “They’re, like, ‘we don’t want another fighter jet!’ They’re, like, ‘don’t give us another nuclear bomb,’ you know?”
Had Noah remembered he was on the comedy channel, perhaps he should have been laughing. The military got a 70 billion dollar increase, not 700B increase. The total Defense budget is 700B. And saving 70B a year ain't gonna be but a drop in the bucket for her agenda.
Ms. O-C has a certain naiveness that is emblematic of her generation, and unlike some she is trying to sound like a serious person - gamely floating out a few nonsensical numbers to back her platitudes. But every time she is given a platform you can't help but feel like a 14 year old switched bodies with an adult - how could a grad in International Relations and Econ be so ignorant and math incompetent?
Who knows, but it does seem appropriate for her to have had a guest interview on the comedy channel, no?
