Multiple patients on hospital ship test positive for COVID-19

I place the blame on the facility that sent those patients to the ship. They obviously weren't following the rules. (if there are even any rules established)

The CDC guidelines are still to only test if there are clear symptoms.

The idea was for others who need hospitalization to go to the ship. But if you have no ability to test the asymptomatic how do you know if that car wreck guy has C-19 as well as a compound fracture or not?

So hey. Thanks for reminding me to think about it.

Trump did fail to get mass testing capability fired off anywhere quickly enough.

So the inability to test led to infected people getting on the hospital shop for uninfected people.

So it IS trump's fault!

Thanks Mycroft!

Trump, so Trump should recall it immediately. Using an open bay ship for treating both COVID-19 and non-COVID-19 patients is insane.

I'd like it to the commands and doctors on the scene, most familiar with the situation, to make that call.

Who isn't shocked, shocked you blamed the people furthest removed from Trump?! I know I am!

Trump didn't send anyone to any ship.

So...you are admitting that either nobody is testing (and testing is certainly available) or there are no rules.

Damn...does Trump need to think of everything? And if he does...and others don't follow the rules...is that his fault?

Of course it is.

Well **** me, I guess this is Trump's fault as well...right?

No, nothing is trump's fault. Which begs the question: couldn't he resign and not be at fault for anything as a regular citizen?

Never said that .please stop putting words in my mouth. I just asked because I thought it could there was strong testing plan in place j before allowing anyone on the ship. From the time it was announced the ship would come it was more than week away. I was hoping they would a good plan in place and the proper testing in place.

I never implied that you said that - since it was what I posted.

Multiple patients on hospital ship test positive for COVID-19

Patients onboard the Navy’s hospital ship Comfort tested positive for COVID-19 after being transferred Friday from a facility in New York City, Fox News first reported.

The ship, which arrived with a mission of treating non-COVID patients to alleviate the burden on the city’s increasingly overflowing hospitals, accepted “less than five” patients who were infected, officials told Fox News. Initial screenings prior to boarding the ship did not reveal that the patients had contracted the virus.

The Navy previously confirmed its screening process for boarding the hospital ship — one instituted in accordance to CDC guidance — consists only of a temperature check and “a series of questions addressing [the] member’s recent health and contact history.”

Looks like inadequate testing allowed COVID-19-infected patients to be brought aboard the USNS Comfort in New York harbor.

I blame Trump for not standing on the accommodation ladder (gangplank for you beach creatures) and personally administering a test to every potential patient; and not wearing a mask either!!

You were complaining that there weren't enough patients onboard. I guess your wish will be granted.

Hope they got a ****load of hydroxychloroquine onboard.

Not to worry.. This has Trump's name all over it. ;)

Just you watch...

Why do think it is President Trumps fault?

This is a novel virus that we fighting. We should not be trying to divide the county. This is a medical crisis , not a political crisis.

We are all in this together.

We need to start working together to win this war against the Coronavirus.

Tell that to all your Liberal buddies. They're the ones who are saying this all Trump's fault.

It seems the only people blaming President Trump on this thread have a Conservative or Libertarian lean.

I am an independent and I probally have as many if not Conservative friends than Liberal friends.

I very seldom post on the political part of this board.

I try to away from the political fray and share facts and medical and health issues.

It was to be expected.

The most noteworthy part of the story was what the Navy was using for “testing”.

I sincerely doubt that it is much different from the testing going around much of the country.

I guess this particular item turned into a right wing circle jerk because Trump TV has been making a big spectacle of the hospital ship, and because Trump raced to jump in front of the camera and take television credit for it.

Yes, and nothing is ever Dear Leader's fault. Q.E.D.

Not everything. Just the stuff that he's in charge of that he screws up. The fact that the list is unending isn't our fault either. It's his.

He isn’t in charge of anything.

He said so. Live on national television.

And even if he were, the search for scapegoats is always at the front of this mind.

If Trump doesn't want to be in charge of the Navy he should resign.

It is the President's job to coordinate federal agencies during an emergency. So if the plan is for a Navy ship to accept non Covid patients, well the patients will need testing, not screening, or else the real plan is for Covid patients to get on the ship. That means that the CDC, the Navy, and the NYC healthcare system all need to be coordinated together. That is the job of the President. A really competent President would have the White House running like a well oiled machine. There would be something like a, like a. What do you call it? Oh yeah, a pandemic response team. With all sorts of contingencies planned out in something called a, called a. Oh yeah, a playbook.

Last Thursday , April 2ed Detroit was the first city to get a 15 minute test to test its first repondants.

I am hoping it accurate and works well.

From USA Today :

Detroit on Thursday began testing its first responders, bus drivers and health care workers for coronavirus using new rapid testing kits that produce results in about 15 minutes or less.

Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan said Wednesday [B%]the city is the first in the country to begin using the kits from Abbott, a[/B] a global health care company based in Lake County, Illinois.

"It's being set up right now and it's becoming clear that Detroit will be the first city in the country to use the 15-minute testing to test our police officers, fire fighters, EMTs and our bus drivers so that we know right away the results," Duggan said at his daily press briefing.

Abbott has said the tests can produce positive results in as little as five minutes and negative results in as little as 13 minutes. The company hopes to ramp up production to the point where it can deliver 50,000 kits per day, per a release.

The city spent $377,049 on Abbott testing kits, instruments, control swabs and bar code readers, according to the city's purchase order dated March 29. The purchase order did not specify quantities for the equipment, but a spokesman for Mayor Duggan said the city bought 5,000 kits.

The 'experts' in the first story I read about this said it wasn't going to be possible to keep the ship free of CV19 patients, because it's so widespread in NYC and the fact that someone just infected won't test positive, and symptoms often take days to emerge. If the patients first went to hospitals riddled with CV19 patients, it's a good chance to be infected at that point. Etc.
Yeah, I'm not sure what the big deal here is? In NYC especially, one has to assume everyone is hot unless proven otherwise. This is the status of hospitals all over the NYC metro area. Why would we think the Comfort would be the exception?

I can't believe the Comfort would be put to risk without adequate testing ability? Do we know this to be true?
